"I purchased this product after we adopted George. After having only female cats for quite awhile and losing one to cancer, the Vet reminded me that male cats do need to be even more encouraged to drink alot of water because of their tendancy towards urinary tract infections simply because of their structure. George (we believe) came from a home where he had developed the habit of drinking from a toilet rather than a water bowl, so we needed to try to switch him around. We were also wondering how Mocha (our female) would adapt.
THIS WORKED BEAUTIFULLY!!!
Both cats LOVED it within hours of turning it on!! Both prefer to drink from the top of the fountain where the water runs down rather than the pool. NO problem with them getting enough water in their system as they both drink out of this alot -- I think Moe is also drinking more than she used to. While George is still facinated with any running water, at least he's only drinking out of his fountain rather than other avenues.
With the 108 oz model, I really only have to clean/refill once a week. I find it easy to clean and maintain. I do agree that you do need to lift out the pump and clean the hair out of it regularly (something you don't tumble to when you first get the product, but very necessary.) It's very quiet (only gets a little noisy as an early warning system that it's running low on water), and no splashing at all. When you refill, it takes a couple of minutes for the pump to prime and the water to start flowing again, and the kids love it so much, I get 'the look' for those two minutes when they think I broke it and it's not working right anymore!
I would recommend to others and buy again in a heartbeat! I wish I would have stumbled over this years ago!"

Clean water and fun for your cat

"I was worried that my 2 cats would be freaked out by the water bowl, but bought it with high hopes. Not only do they get clean, fresh water, but they love to watch the water flow down the arch. They stand there mesmerized and drink a LOT more water than they ever did. Easy for you to clean but watch for hair clumps in the motor-my long haired guys clogged it up and it took me a while to realize why the water wasn't running as well as it used to. Easy to take apart and reassemble and easy to fill up daily. Highly reccommended. "

"I bought this for one of my cats with a urinary tract problem. I actually have 3 cats and 3 dogs. All of them LOVE this! I notice that they drink so much more with this than they ever did with still water in a bowl. With 3 cats & 3 dogs the filters need replacing once a month. I also have to clean it 3-4 times a month but cleaning is quick and easy and I can get it cleaned with soap and water and back in action in just a few minutes. The water tank has to be refilled every day when the level gets low but it only takes a moment to pop out the tank, refill it and put it back and I don't even have to turn the fountain off! I wouldn't ever go back to using the old water dish!" I LOVE this fountain. GOOOOD PRODUCT. Highly recommended""

"I bought this fountain because one of my cats is constantly getting urinary infections and the vet said that one of these products would be the best way to reduce the problem.
I was really worried that all three of my cats would be scared to go near it, but surprisingly, they all took to it immediately. I like that they have the option to either drink from the waterfall or from the bowl. Either way, all of them have started drinking more and they love to sit and watch the water pour down.
Another great thing is the clear water contanier, so you're able to see when you need to refill."

"I got this fountain last week. So far I think it's a charm. It's quiet, it wasn't hard to set up, and one of my cats took to it right away. Unfortunately the cat who needs to drink more is a little intimidated by the gurgling sound it makes occasionally as it refills after a cat has taken a drink. At this point I am not sure if I will keep it because I need both cats to drink from it in order for it to be a worthwhile purchase for me."

"well I was a little bit disappointed on the size of the water bottle that goes with this unit as I thought it would be bigger but once I informed the babbies that was their new water bowl and I wasn't going to put any more water in the old one they started using it. It is a little loud as far as the motor goes but that is ok as it is in a room by itself. they have their own room in the house. feed, water, and litter box all together."

"I think this product does attract my 2 cats to the water fountain more often. So, I would recommend purchasing it. I do question why PETCO does not carry the filters...I have to purchase those elsewhere. :-("

"I have two male cats with histories of urinary tract problems..this water bowl helped to seriously increase their water intake. It is quiet and easy to put together and take apart for cleaning (once you have done it a couple times). Totally worth the money!"

"can't say its too silent, you can hear the water running kinda like a aquarium, and when the water gets low it makes noise. But my two cats absolutely love this water dish. "I purchased this fountain and as a mother of 4 cats they all loved the idea it was so fun and became a game with them. Until nothing it just stopped I have had it for about 5 weeks and it just stopped not a hmm nothing but poor meows and little paws tapping it :( I will purchase another from PETCO just not this one will spend a few extra dollars ."

"I very much like this fountain. It is my second one purchased. The cats drink much more water and I know it is fresh and full all day. I would only state that the pump clogged up with minerals and even though I cleaned it, the minerals did the damage. I would suggest that replacement pumps be available at Petco so it would be easier to purchase. The reason I purchased a new one was with shipping, an all new fountain was only 10.00 more. I would keep an extra pump at the house if they were available through Petco."

"This pet fountain is most difficult to 1) set up, and 2) clean. You almost have to be a rocket scientist. Although I would go through the trouble IF even one of my cats enjoyed drinking from it. But none did. Plus, it got dirty so quickly and the filtering system didn't keep up. I was scooping out pet hair constantly, and only one cat BARELY drank from it. Ridiculous! Am returning it."

"my cat was drinking out of my dripping sink so I got one of these and she loved it. Then it was broken by my roommate and I replaced it with a drinkwell because ti had an extra water tank on it. It made to much noise my cat went right back to drinking out of the sink and it was a real pain to clean it had all kinds of nooks and crannies. I am going to get me another petmate."

"Milkface, my cat, has gone kitty crazy over her Petmate fountain. I reckon the charcoal filter must keep the water all fresh and perky. She is much happier with the fountain than she was drinking from an 'ordinary' bowl. I used to be concerned that Milkface wasn't drinking enough water, but now I know she is drinking plenty. She is a nicer kitty now and doesn't 'cat'erwaul so dadblamed much for better water and that makes me, her grand"paw", much happier too. Right on Petmate and Petco!!"

"I was very worried that my cat wouldn't take to this fountain since cats are very picky. Ever since she was a kitten, my cat has played in her water dish and in the toilet. She took to this waterer right away and doesn't play in the toilet at all anymore. She still splashes around in the waterer but thats okay!"

"I think this is a good solution to those of us who have pets that require we turn the water faucet on to give them a drink. My cat took a few days to warm up to it, as he is a bit of a fraidy cat. But he now uses the fountain routinely and I only turn the water on for him as a habit. It was part of our routine, and he still likes pampered sometimes. But it beats the water bowl hands down!"

"I used this style water fountain for my two kitties and they loved it. I felt good about providing them purified water even when I wasn't home. The great thing about this model is that you can clean everything on it, including the fur that clogs the motor!
HOWEVER, the downside is that motor broke within the first year of use and the company would not replace it, nor do they offer a motor as a replacement item (you have to purchase the entire kit again).
I subsequently purchased a different style water dish and it was no better. The motor held up a few months longer, but I found that the inside got moldy and I could not clean it.
So, now I'm back to this one given that the kitties liked it and I could keep all the parts clean."
