Gentle Leader is Excellent!

"During our first canine education class ,the instructor suggested that we try a headcollar type of collar and lead for our cocker spaniel.He was acting overly aggressive toward other dogs,and pulling us toward them to the point we lost control of him.We debated the purchase due to the cost,but finally decided to give it a try.After watching the instructional video,we fitted the gentle leader on him,and took him to class.With his gentle leader on,he became,just that,gentle.One attempt was made to pull,and he stopped immediately.Amazing! He is four years old,and nothing else has worked,and the gentle leader did! Needless to say,he finished canine education,and actually gets along with every canine he mets:)
We also tried the gentle leader on our other dogs that wished to pull instead of walk.Instantly they became great walkers.It works so well our 2 year old granddaughter can walk them with no trouble.
We have used the very same collar for several dogs to date,and it has proven to be well worth the investment.
After having the initial debate over to purchase or not,we would pay 10 times as much for the results we have had.We recommond the gentle leader to everyone that needs to become the leader of their pack.Thank you so much for such a wonderful product."

"The gentle leader is great. We use it on our medium-sized German Shepherd mix. She LOVES squirrels and has enough power to pull me over to a tree if she wants to. The first time we used the gentle leader, we watched the DVD to learn how to fit it and how to get her used to wearing it. I can't say she's a big fan of wearing it, but she puts up with it pretty well. Now that she's worn it a few times, the "tantrums" have pretty much ceased. Now, if she sees a squirrel, she won't pull - SUCCESS! I think we paid around $16 in the store - I'd say that's money well spent!"

"This product was bought for my 3 month old Golden Retriever, because he had just gotten used to pulling even the strongest member of the family down the street. The day I got it, I put it on indoors, and my dog tried constantly to get it off, and of course this means he doesn't like the idea of not being Mr.High-and-mighty anymore.
Most likely your dog will fight it at first sight, so watch the training video for proper fitting. We took him for a walk, and like a miracle he walked by my side! Two fingers pressure is all it takes to stiffen the lead and make him follow. If your dog has problems, buy this product!! Also, watch the dvd, it's important. And I think you'll be glad to know it isn't bad for their neck! Buy it!"

"I have two pit bulls that pulled very hard every time I walked them. This product made walking them enjoyable. I read other reviews on this product before I bought it. I was conserned about the plastic peice that locks on the bottom of the coller. However I had no problems with it, It work perfect. I belive it was opperator errer."

"I have tried EVERYTHING to break my dog from pulling and jumping when I try to walk her. She is about 70lbs(shepherd/collie) and 18 months old. I watched the video and actually put the Gentle Lead Headcollar on as I watched (which was a lot easier than trying to do it with the written directions), and took her for her first walk. She did not like it at first but within 10 minutes wow....she was great!!! I only wish I would have purchased this sooner. I brought plenty of treats with me but stopped giving them to her after 5 minutes and only when we got back home did she get another reward. We even saw other people walking and she only gave a little bark and was done. She got to the point if I stopped she sat at my side! Although a little pricey ..I have spent more on other products total. I can't give enough praise about this product!!!! This is seriously the best training tool for a dog!"

"Our 8 month German shepherd has a wonderfully friendly and curious personality but he can be uncontrollable when we walk him. He is very strong & very stubborn. Walks had become stressful and I often came home feeling frustrated and defeated. Several people suggested a Gentle Leader and after reading reviews here and talking to a few people, I gave it a try.
The VERY FIRST TIME I used this collar on my pup, I saw results. No pulling. No lunging. No choking on the chain collar. He heeled like a pro. I was so shocked and excited I must have sounded like a loon chanting "Oh what a good boy, such a good boy."
Maybe the 5th or 6th time using the leader, we took him out to Freeport, ME which is home to LL Bean and dozens of other shops and boutiques with lots of people and cars. I have to admit I was nervous and very hesitant to take him on the main road, around all those distractions. This was his first real exposure to this sort of situation.
NO PROBLEM!!! Our pup walked with us heeling like a pro, no pulling, no obnoxious behavior. He even went into a store and remained calm, if not a bit too curious at one point. We were so proud.
He still struggles with greeting his favorite lab friend, and I don't see us putting the leader away for several months but it has changed everything for us. I highly recommend it. Yes, it's pricier than a regular collar but SO WORTH IT."

"I cannot believe the immediate results after just using the Gentle Leader for the first time. We just adopted out 1 1/2 year old Cairn. It was so much work to take him for a walk. He pulls, lunges, etc. After buying this product and paying close attention to the directions, I was amazed at the results. Within the first 5 min of our walk we had a new dog.
Amazing!!!!!"

"I have two 6 month old Boston Terriers, and walking them was not fun for me. But now I really do enjoy and look forward to walking them! I LOVE this thing, it's the best invention ever! At first they need to get used to it, but after a couple of days they won't notice it so don't get discouraged. plus watch the DVD and make sure the strap is very snug."

"Simply the best product to keep your dog from pulling! Our Brownie is a pit bull/lab mix. her neck is too thick to keep a regular collar on her and the choke chain bothers her throat too much. Needless to say, she pulls like crazy and knows how to shake the choker down. This stays put and even keeps our Brownie from pulling us around the block! No lie, best ever!"

"It worked very well even on the first time! :) just remember to watch the DVD that comes with it and follow the instructions before you start putting it onto your dogs. My dog used to pull and choke himself on walks, and he's very strong, so I wasn't very excited to walk him everyday. But after using the gentle leader, he's happier that he gets to go outside more, and I too, enjoy the walk with him every single day! :)
I now switch to the "easy-walk harness" because he still doesn't really like the strap around his nose, and would use his paw to push the strap every now and then during walks. I guess he gets it now, won't pull anymore, and finally graduated from the headcollar to the harness level. Thanks Premier Pet! :)"

A big let down

"After reading all the wonderful reviews of this product, I thought "hey maybe this is the answer." I tried it out on my 55 lb lab mix, Toby, and was so surprised. It was a miracle! He couldn't pull with it. There was a lot of head shaking but eventually he gave in to it. I immediately went out and bought one for my other dog, a 45 lb. brittany-samoyed mix. I was all excited but then I took Toby out for a second walk and it didn't work.
The only complaints of read of this product were either about the durable or that the dog finds in uncomfortable and doesn't like it. but apparently I have the two freak dogs in the world that this product does NOT work on. I guess the first time I tried it, the dog was just surprised and didn't know how to react so it got the better of him. But on the second walk he realized he could pull anyway. The novelty was gone. The gentle leader head collar didn't even work once on my other dog. They still pull and the head collar leaves marks on their faces. They can't pull as hard with head collar on but it doesn't stop them from pulling. Plus, if they see another dog, all bets are off and they can pull me to the ground easily even with the collar.
I switched back to their no-pull harnesses (another gentle leader product). They don't really work either, but it is still better than a regular collar because if I tried to walk them with a regular collar, I would be running instead of walking. At least the harness doesn't leave marks and its more comfortable for them.
My suggestion if you are going to try this product is to have it fitted properly by a veterinarian to make sure you're doing everything right. I'm sure it works on dogs less crazier than mine. But if your dogs are wild like mine, don't get your hopes up."

"Like I said...Oh my gosh!!! This was the best product for my dog I have ever used! You put the circle around your dog's nose and then tighten it, but not to much. Just enough so it won't come off. My golden, female, American Cocker Spaniel, Lady is also known as "Crazy Lady". She is very bad on walks so I got her this. She hated it like crazy at first and was trying to get it off. She got used to it after a couple of walks. I was AMAZED at the difference. She was not tugging and strangling herself. She was walking perfectly like she was trained. She made a couple attempts during the first walke to get it off. It came off a couple times but I just tightened it. I reccomend this for your dog. I now enjoy taking walks with her and my other dog Coco."

"My experience with this product is awesome. Our yellow lab at 1 year and 9 months weighing 85 lbs likes to go outdoors daily but during our walks he pulls me whenever he smells something and marks some post or tree. Also he gets so excited to meet new people at home and when he sees other dogs in the park or dog beach, to the point that he jumps on them and drag my wife with the leash one time. Thats when we decided to get the Gentle leader as suggested by our vet and shelter friends. We have a collar, harness and a leash all color in blue. When I first bought the Gentle Leader, the store run out of blue, so we end up buying black color. When we tried to put it on him, he was so curious and end up disliking it. He rubs and paws on it that it was a constant struggle. I tried to be patient until my wife suggested that we need to return it and change with a blue color. We did it and went to another Petco store that has a blue color. Guess what, the very first time we tried it on him, he tolerate the Gentle leader and keep his nose steady as we put it on him. I believe Max associates the blue color for outdoor fun and walking since we been using color blue on his collar, leash and harness. He's been an excellent dog so far. If any of you have struggled like we did the first time, try getting one of the same color as your leash or collar that you use on him. I give this product a rating of 5 paws up."

"I have a seven month old sheperd x husky and by the time she hit six months she was walking me. I did some research and found the gentle leader. It worked like a charm, she still hasn't gotten used to it going over her nose, but apparently that's the problem most dogs have. However, I can now walk her. The only other problem I've had is that some people think it's a muzzle, but after a quick explanation most happily accept it."

"Although my dogs do not like these on their faces, it is the ONLY thing that has allowed me to actually take them for a walk - rather than the other way around or worse, not at all. After reading the directions and watching the video, I also realized that it is the most humane way to walk my dogs. It eliminates me pulling on their necks while putting me back in control of the walk. Best thing EVER for walking dogs."

"We have a 3 year old soft coated wheaten terrier. They are known as notorious pullers. She took the group training class, and it didn't work. We tried so many things, and couldn't fix her pulling problem. We were about to take her to a private training class but we bought the gentle leader and saved us a lot of money. Believe me. This works."

"I have a year and a half year old black lab mix. One of the few problems I have with her is her pulling. I've put up with it, tried to train her and figured eventually it would work. It didn't. Now I'm 7 months pregnant and couldn't risk her pulling me anymore. I got this headcollar and instantly I saw a difference. She doesn't pull at all, doesn't run after squirrels or other dogs. My only regret is that I didn't get this for her earlier."

Never thought it would work

"I never thought a head collar would work, so I got some advice from the employees where I expressed my concern of using an aggressive training collar on my new Shepherd, who was found wandering with another shepherd during the hurricane. I wanted her, and had no clue what kind of training she had had in her past.
I have the choke collar, which my neighbors had put on her after they found her, and she walks pretty well on that, but, again, I do not care for the more aggressive standards, so I opted to get her something that would help a great deal and still be safe.
It worked wonders. My poor shy and timid german doesnt balk at things so much and walks without even slightly pulling! Its just been a bugger to get her to get used to it. lol
I Love this collar and recommend it to anyone"

"It worked just like magic. I recently adopted a 6 year old male husky and the first time I tried to take him out for a walk it was just fine until he saw a cat and tried to chase it, he pulled so hard and I seriously thought he was gonna take my arms off. I was so afraid to take him out for walks cause you never know when a cat or any other small animal is gonna come out. He is a full grown husky and I only weight 100 pounds so I really needed a miracle. I was watching a show on tv and I saw the they used a headcollar so I went and bought one, it took me a while to put it on him at the right fit but once I did it I took him for a walk and wow that was a miracle, at first he struggled and tried to take it off but then he just wanted to go for a walk so he ignored it. Best purcahse I've ever made, even my little 8 year old sister can walk him now. Happy dog and happy owner."

"Our Scottie pulled so hard that both my husband and I were unable to enjoy taking him for a walk. He pulled so hard that my husbands shoulders were always hurting. We used a choke chain but it made no difference. The last straw was one night while I was walking my dog he pulled me so hard that I fell down.
I got on to Petco's website looking for a harness or some kind of collar that wouldn't choke the dog and keep him from pulling and found Gentle Leader. I read the reviews and decided that since the reviews were so good, we had nothing to lose trying Gentle Leader and seeing what happens. Well, our dog bucked around like a colt for a few minutes and then we saw we had it on wrong! OOPS! We placed it on the right way and WOW! It was like we got a brand new dog! Even when we took him to his favorite park...which he usually pulled us through at 90 miles an hour, he walked normally!
I'll never go back to the choke chain.
