"I bought 2 of these collars in April 2009 for use on 2 different cats. Both collars broke within one week! 2 other cats have worn theirs for years, so I guess the quality of plastic used has really gone downhill. The thin plastic bar attaching the nylon band to the clasp is where it broke. I won't be buying any Petmate products again."

great product but not for my cats

"for some reason my cats don't do well with these collars..they get stuck in them around/in their mouths and freak out! I only buy the collars that have the hook that goes into the hole, but didn't realize these were not the correct ones..will be returning."

"This collar is useful if you want to hear your cat approach. When we first adopted our kittens we kept nearly tripping over them, but these collars gave us fair warning of their whereabouts. The only reason I gave it less than 5 paws is because our female was twice able to loosen her collar and somehow get her arm tangled into it."

"Between my boyfriend & I, we have 5 cats ... My cats have had "safety" collars their entire lives, but when one of his cat got her old collar stuck on a drawer handle, I'd decided we needed to do something right away. I ordered five collars (replacing my cats too), in four colors and we were pleased with all of them. In fact, his other cat has never kept a collar on, but has yet to remove her new one. It is light and doesn't irriate her. Now the only problem we have is the bells ringing as they chase each other at 2:00 AM ... :-)"

really good collar

"I purchased this collar for my 10 week old kitten about 10 months ago and it's still working strong. It's easy for me to get off when i bathe her, but it stays on no matter what she does to get it off. It's still going strong even 10 months later and i'm confident that it will last longer. She hasn't gotten stuck on anything, so i don't know if it works in an escape situation, but i'm sure that it will be fine!"

Really Great Collar

"I bought this collar for my cat a few months ago, and I've seen her scratch her neck and this collar more then a few times and it is holding up wonderfully. I really like the bell, it's great for finding out where she is. The paint on the bell has been fading as of late, and I suspect its because it's been rubbing on the tag so much, but that doesn't bother me too much. The break away part makes me feel safe, even though she is an indoor cat. I gave it a 4/5 because it's really great, but the paint on the bell is fading."

"I love this type of collar for my cat because first off its very safe for the cat. As the description says, if it gets caught on anything it will immediately come off so it does not choke the cat. The next reason why I would recommend this is because it has a bell, and when your cat goes hiding you know where to find them. Also its best to know where they are at night so you dont hurt them accidently because you dont see them."

"I have 2 indoor-only cats and I have gone through maybe 10 of these collars. I keep buying them because I figure its better than coming home to a strangled cat, but the plastic part breaks completely instead of snapping open and being reusable. I need to start looking for a durable safety collar, I think the ones that stretch rather than break are better."

"This is a very nice collar. Good quality, solid hardware. However, the buckle doesn't break away as easily as I'd like it to, and when it *does* break away it breaks for good. My cat has come home with it wedged in her armpit - it doesn't stretch in an emergency. I prefer the collars with the elastic band for an outdoor cat."

"This is a very safe collar for cats. I would NOT recommend buying anything other than a "safety" collar for cats and this is the best I have found. I put collars on my indoors-only cats to hear the "jingle" and be able to keep track of where they are, but many collars can entangle them in various places and even in their own mouths! This collar features a breakaway that actually works in such situations but stays put otherwise. It also comes in a variety of nice colours which is great for having multiple cats. It holds up fairly well, but it can get that "fuzzy" appearence on my long-haired cats after about a year of wear, in which case I just replace it. It is worth it to have a truly safe collar. Overall a great collar and the only one I'll ever use for my cats."
