Pretty addition to saltwater tanks

Great addition to my saltwater tank. Very pretty, clean and no noticable discolored sand.
It is a sand that is a very fine quality so if you have a heavy flow coming from your filter, you will want to put some rocks or slate, etc over it where the flow comes into the tank. If I dont do that, the water flow burrows into the sand and leaves giant 'potholes' :) But it is worth the 'hassle' to have pretty white sand in the tank. it makes it look very realistic like an ocean.

Very fluffy and light.

This sand is a very good deal for those trying to save money on their marine aquarium. I have a 55 gallon marine aquarium only running a Fluval C4 filter, and it cleared up fast (depending on how many times I cleaned my Polishing pad)
My only complaint, however is that it is very very light. I have had to take my filter out for cleaning due to how much sand got sucked up during setup. The sand traps air, and is easily stirred up, so I'd only recommend this sand to a hobbyist with a calm, peaceful reef tank, with easy water movement.

Perfect touch

I picked up 4 ten pound bags of these at the PETCO in Duluth, MN. Which they only had those 4 bags left. I wanted a more natural look to my 46 bowfront piranha tank. I was unsure about using sand because I never used it and wouldn't be sure about it getting into my filter. Well, it does settle very nicely and after a few hours, the filter creates a natural wavey ish look. I ordered 2 more bags from PETCO to had a little more landscaping.
Total of 5 - 10 pound bags. People say a 10 pound bag for every 10 gallons.

Good quality sand. It needed very little washing, which was great! Settled within a few hours. I was pleased with the color, too. Very pure white sand, really looks great in the tank. Can't ask for much better :)

different use

As a foster home for many small furry animals, dust baths are to expensive to allow that indulgence. This sand however works well as a safer alternative that is affordable.

I am new to this Aquarium thing and this is a great looking sand to use for its beauty. If you want a live reef/ benefits of everything, I would add it with the bio Activ Live stuff, but this is a great looking sand and it settled within a day and my little 10 Gallon tank with the filter did just fine.
Salt water tank btw.
I will mix this beautiful sand with Nature's Ocean Bio-Activ Live Aragonite Reef Substrate for my 40 Gal Salt water

Not for Small Tanks

In a large tank this would probably be OK and look good. For marine fish and reef, I suggest "live sand" only instead. I used this product along with live sand in a 10-gal with a standard small aqua-clear filter (5-20 gals). After settling for several days, I turned on filter and within 4-5 days the impeller shaft had already been 'ground down' so it would occasionally scream and then stop. I replaced it and the same thing happened. I could see the sand at the water intake just above the impeller. It is too fine and in a small tank some of it always remains "floating". If you can find a filter with a low enough flow rate, it may work, but then I don't think the filtering would be adequate. Anyway, that is just MY opinion.

I bought 2 bags of this sand for my 20 gallon saltwater tank. I rinsed each bag seperately in a 5 gallon bucket and placed it straight into the tank. After filling the tank with water, the tank water was murky for about a day or two, but after letting it settle completely, I hooked up my filtration system, powerhead, and protein skimmer, and the water became clear within another day. The sand is pretty fine, but it weighs down with the water, so it doesn't really get blown around. The appearance of it is amazing, and is definately worth the buy.

Makes water cloudy

Depending on the size of tank you have and how fast your current is or the placement of your powerheads this stuff will stay in your water for weeks and make it cloudy.
I put just a fine layer over the front part of my tank and I have no powerheads near the bottom and even after rinsing this stuff my tank was cloudy for weeks, even after using polishing pads.
I finally had enough and took the sand out and put that live active sand in. Within 24 hours my tank was crystal clear no joke!
I think it would be a good product for more calm aquariums with not much movement.

i bought 2 bags for a new marine tank that i am setting up and have had no problems with it. there are a few black impurities in the bags of sand but it is not very easy to see. and have had no problems with it getting sucked up into filters.

good for low-flow aquariums

I got this sand a couple months ago, mand its been looking fabulously. It looks amazing when you put in the tank! It looks like your at the beach. But, there a couple drawbacks about this product. 1. It make you water reall really cloudy for a couple weeks, 2. I have a medium flow filter and it pushes all the sand away and uncovers the bottom of the tank! So i sugest you get a very very low-flow water aquariums.
