"After reading the many negative reviews, I went to the local Petco store and looked at the Pet botanics e-Collar. The design appeared sensible and the material durable. Unfortunately, the product is not properly sized and thus does not allow it to protect my dog from biting himself. This product is not designed for dogs with long noses (from a marketing perspective, this is a significant limitation). I bought the product that was sized 14" to 21" because my collie's neck was 14" in circumference. This appeared to be a logical thing to do, but his nose extended well beyond the front of the e-collar.
Today, I returned to Petco and replaced the original e-collar with one that was sized from 21" to 25" in neck circumference. Right, this new e-collar adjusted to the smallest size just slips over his head and falls off again. On the other hand, the e-collar is long enough to prevent him from biting any part of his body. The solution to the extra large neck size problem was to use plastic zip-ties to secure the oversize collar to his own leather collar. This is not an elegant solution, but it does appear to work.
Doesn't it seem sensible for the manufacturer of this product to just punch a few more holes in this XXL plastic e-collar so that it will meet the needs of dogs with long noses and smaller neck size?
On the positive side, although my collie does not like wearing the E-Collar, it is light in weight, easy to clean, easy to install, and appeared to be holding up well after 4 days of constant use.
In summary, this is a good concept for a product, but with some very significant design flaws in the sizing of the product.
I would recommend this product to a friend, but with some very serious cautionary comments. The accompanying photo shows how the (unhappy) collie's nose extends well beyond the edge of the original e-collar."
