I custom build my own bio-filters into the tanks.
As such, most often they have triangular
shaped air tubes...the ones that serve the same purpose as the discharge tubes for under
gravel filters, but that my filters are vertical
and in the corner. As the top of the tube measures 7/8" on each of it's three sides
the opening is small so these cartridges
fit into the opening well though the common blue sand stones won't. Since the Petco stores usually carry replacement packs, changing
one each month is economical and
insures free flow.

All the bubbles come out between the plastic and airstone.

The only way I'd purchase these again is if they're on sale. Very functional product, just a bit 'pricey' for the size one gets.
