I purchased this collar on the advice of the trainer in my local Petco, and couldn't be happier. Our two dogs took to the collar right away and within two walks they were following our lead around the block instead of leading us around the block.
We've used choke chains and training collars with prongs before and they still pulled hard against them. While they will both try to shake their way out of this collar when I first put it on, after a couple of minutes they settle down and I'm in control.
Keep their regular collar on the dog and attach the safety strap to it. If your dog does succeed in getting lose from the headcollar, the strap will keep you attached.
The Halti is the first collar I've used that successfully keeps my dogs from pulling, and that's making it easier to train them overall.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I worked as a vet tech years ago when this poor abused 1 year old mixed breed was brought in. She was almost dead from being beaten. After a year of tender loving care we started to work on obedience. She is so well behaved except for leash training. She refused to obey, she nearly ripped our arms from the sockets. I was working on a military base at the time and after all my other resources were worn out I tried an MP dog trainer. The ones that train the military canines? He couldn't even break her of the habit. We believe she had been whipped or something to that effect with her collar and/or leash.
When Halti came out on the market I thought why not? It was a godsend! It works! She didn't like it at first but now she loves it. Our walks aren't battles anymore. They are peaceful and enjoyable. She is now 13 years old and spoiled rotten and living the good life.

I purchased the Halti Headcollar on the advice of Lois, the lead teacher at puppy school in Flint,Michigan. I have a rather young, joyful black lab and did not want to break her spirit. The standard Nylon training color suggested by PETCO was not doing the job. Jade was excited to be around the other puppies and thought puppy school was "play time." I, too, was concerned about harming my Jade in anyway but after seeing Lois and her work together with the Halti, I am now a true believer. Jade knows it's business. When the Halti goes on, it's time to go to work. I now look forward to our walks together without her yanking on my arm and not being literally jerked off my feet (twice). There is nothing worse than a dog without dicipline or manors, and the only person to blame that on is me. Her training is coming along nicely. Thank you Halti for a pet friendly training aid.

I have a dog who, for lack of better phrasing, isn't quite right in the head. We don't know exactly what's wrong with her, but when we take her on walks with any sort of collar, she pulls and pulls until she collapses her trachea. A few coughs re-inflate it, but we quickly realized that we needed something else. At first we tried a harness, but it didn't stop the pulling. Then we chose a Halti, and although she didn't like it at first, food reinforcement quickly got her accustomed to it. She no longer pulls and we can go on nice walks together.

this product is a very great investment if you have a dog who pulls on the leash, this will definitely be a great tool to stop that. the only downside is that my dog doesn't like the feeling of something in her face and rubs her face on the ground.

We used one for our lab for 15 years and our new pup loves it too. We learned the loose leash walking method and he does great on the halti. excellent and humane

We have an Australian Shep/Lab mix who is 10 months old. He was pulling to the point where walking was unpleasant and hiking/backpacking downhill was downright dangerous and painful. Who knows what might happen when he runs into his first bear or moose!? This doesn't hurt him and we finally feel a sense of control over our walks and it truly has become a family hour we can all enjoy.! Thank you for a great product!

My dog Link is a 2.5 year old mix breed dog. He has a head shape similar to that of a German Shepard. This head halter is really the only way I can keep him from pulling me over when he sees a squirrel or rabbit while we're walking. Link is 80lbs and is a constant puller when we walk. I watched the instructional DVD several times and have had this halter for a few months but he still does not walk with a loose leash. Unfortunately I can't give this product 5 paws because it really doesn't work for my dog. I have tried all of the tips and fitted it properly but he still pulls. I still give it a good rating because I can at least walk him with this because he's not able to pull as hard since I control his head. I read excellent reviews from others on here so don't let this one deter you. I think Link is just too stubborn or I need to search for another product I'm not sure... I would definitely still recommend this product though because it does enable me to walk him and without it there would be no way we could walk.

I bought a Halti head colar for my GSD service dog because she was sniffing the floor constantly when we were going places and trying to go to everyone to check them out. Since getting the collar I have been able to correct these behaviors quickly. I have only had her a few weeks so she had to adjust to a lot of changes and this has made going out in public so much easier!

I have a one year old rescued St Bernard, who was horrable to walk. Choke chaines were not effective. After a hour using the head harness he was a different dog. Even my seven year old son can walk him. Taking him for walks are now enjoyable.

i rescued a five year old, overweight, VERY zealous lab. she was too much for me to walk as she pulled so hard. the very first time i used this...although she does periodically try to remove it...she walked beautifully!

JUST BUY IT!! my wife bought this for out 6 month old and the second i saw it I was like, "what the heck is that going to do?" I kid you not with-in 5 mins of it being on the dog all pulling stopped. It was a miracle. If you have been looking for something that will help your dog from pulling this is it! I dont see how it couldnt work for you but if it doesnt then you can always return it. (you wont have to).

I was hesitant to try this lead, but I'm so glad I did; it's fantastic!
While she was getting used to wearing it, she would try to pull it off. If she was diligent enough to be successful, it was so easy to put back on because, as Halti advertises, the "soft nylon fits comfortably around dog's face without restricting the mouth." SO TRUE!
Not only does it fit well, but my dog can still sniff and pant without the lead constricting her ability to do so. Walking and running have become easy and enjoyable, not a struggle!
I 100% recommend this product.

This collar worked like a charm for my 60 lbs Black Lab mix. She was totally unmanageable before using a halti but once it is on she is very easy to walk. My biggest problem is the construction of the product. I have been through thee in three years. All three have torn in the same spot rendering them useless. Luckily I was able to grab her each time before she ran free into traffic or it could have been a disaster.
I plan on buying a different brand of head collar now because I believe in the idea, but not in the quality of a halti.

I'm 5'1" and I own a 75 lb 1 year old akita. My boyfriend and I had tried everything from classes to reading books to teach her to walk nicely on a leash by our side, without leading in front of us or pulling. We tried harnesses in the beginning thinking it wouldn't choke her but you'll soon learn that for large dogs, harnesses are not good because the body is where the power of the animal is. My bf did some research and found out about the head collar. He purchased one and tried it out and after the first walk, she realized that she was no longer in charge of the walks. It's great in keeping her focused and helping her to refocus her attention during walks. She doesn't pull, she stays by my left side, and I don't have to worry about her taking off and dragging me with her. A slight tug keeps her in check, making walks a enjoyable! I'd highly recommend it in addition to putting on a backpack with some weight in it for the dog. It helps to tire them out sooner too which means they'll less likely want to fight with you on who leads on the walk.
I won't take her anywhere without this Halti head collar. I'm going to buy a second one to keep at my bf's house too!

This product is absolutely amazing. I train my grandma's Schnauzer on a regular basis, and though she is smart, she is horrible on walks. She looks like she is swimming, choking and straining against the collar and dragging me everywhere. My grandma and I began to hate walking her, because it was just not enjoyable. Therefore, the dog never got the exercise she needed. I'm an amateur trainer, and I saw head collars being used on TV and decided to find out where I could purchase one. I saw they sold them at Petco, and I bought one.
The first walk was horrible, she hated it and wouldn't go two steps without trying to pry it off, but I'm more stubborn than her, and I kept at it. I've just returned form our third walk, and she only balked once at having the collar on, and that was when I'd just put it on. She's doing marvelous, and for once, I'm in control!
I would highly recommend this, much more humane and affective than the choke collars and prong collars. This is just like a horse halter, only for dogs. If you control their head, you control their body.
Anyone can use this with a little determination. Your dog will not like it at first, but don't get worried, trust me, they learn.

I own a 118lb young male Doberman and he was unmanageable in public. He could literally pull me wherever he felt like going. I used treats, and many type of choke collars to no avail. One day, as I was being pulled past a family hiking in the hills, the father yelled out to me to google "Halti." I did, and I am so glad I did. I was ready to give my dog away - that's how bad he was. The Halti was an INSTANT cure. I couldn't believe it. I even tested it out in my neighbood with barking dogs running at us. The Halti works and it doesn't choke your dog to death. I cannot tell you any more than to try it out. You'll be amazed!!

i have 200 pound mastiffs! dogs can pull 3X their weight! but they will go where their head goes! i love this! it makes it feel like i am walking a small dog instead of a HUGE dog!!
. dont be woried if your dog dosnt like it at first and paws at its face :) they just have to get used to it.
. also dogs are smart so bcareful of them slipping out of this collar. what i do is attach the head collar to its regular collar so if there are any bad moments that i will still have them attached!

I bought this one as a replacement for our first gentle leader which ended up breaking due to long use. This was a different brand and a little cheaper than our first one but it was the only one large enough for our mastiff at the store.
We could not keep the collar on our dog. There is no slide adjustment to tighten it around the muzzle. It appears that it might work for a dog that likes to pull a lot but since our dog doesn't do that the muzzle part of the collar constantly slips off and is unavailable when we need to 'reel her in'.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
