"This really works! The key is to "pump" it up and down rapidly (don't hit your fish) and have your 5 gallon bucket below the tank. Only takes about 5 pumps to get it started. Very fast! Keep an eye on your fish and the bucket while siphoning."

Great for small tanks
Date: September 7, 2009
"I got the mini for my 10g aquarium. I am very pleased with it so far. I have about 15lbs of sand and 10lbs of gravel in my tank, and this vacuum doesn't eaven suck up my sand which is impressive. It does a great job cleaning the substrate and is very useful when doing weekly water changes."

Who needs the expensive ones
Date: July 7, 2009
"This vacuum works great, I have a 20 gallon aquarium that is in its cycling process before i add my goldfish. it's easy to get the siphon started, but it's a pain lugging the 50 pound bucket to the toilet after siphoning the water. anyone got ideas about using the faucet to fill the aquarium with a hose or something?"

Lee's have the best gravel vacumes ever!
Date: June 18, 2009
"This is the best gravel vacume ever! It cleans the gravel out really well. I would not recomend ordering one of these gravel vacums from a webside because in the petco store they are all displayed together making it easier to pick the perfect on for your size tank. Another concern reviewers have said is that the first time you start it is it easy but the second time it is very hard. This happened to me too but then I figured out the the entire hose has to be empyed of water before you use it a second time!"

Not so good for small tanks
Date: March 20, 2009
"I bought the smallest size of this product so that could clean out the waste from my Betta's gravel without having to remove the fish and dump all the water.
But once I started using it, I quickly found out that, with my 1 gallon tank, I had to add water while syphoning so my fish wouldn't be left high and dry. It did remove some waste, but the fact that I had to add water made it extremely impractical. I would have been better off removing the fish to another tank, dump the water, clean the gravel, add new water, and put the fish back in.
I would NOT recommend this to anyone who has a tank of volume less than 10 gallons."

Mini works great
Date: February 17, 2009
"I purchased the mini vac for my little 2.5 and 5 gal isolation tanks. I always struggled to get the larger vacs to even fit into these little tanks, let alone get the beastly vacuums primed. The mini vac is the perfect fit and easy to get the suction started in less than a minute. No mess or splattered water with this one. One last comment. The mini vac works best with the really small gravel. Larger gravel (penny sized) tends to slow the vac process."

Not too bad
Date: May 13, 2008
"I can never get the vacuum to start on its own but other than that I would recommend that everyone that has an aquarium get one of these. It seems to clean the gravel very well and it makes water changes a breeze."

"This item is to large for my 2.5 gal tank. The description should give the size tank that this item would be best for. I cannot use it but will have to keep it because it will cost me more to send it back than it cost me to buy it."

So simple & priced right!
Date: May 22, 2007
"I don't understand how anyone could give this product a bad review.
Once you get the hang of how to get the vacuum to start, it couldn't be easier.
I find I get the best cleaning results when I dig the vacuum into the gravel to stir up the debris from the bottom.
I also recommend changing the filter after a couple hours after vacuuming. By only removing the recommended 20% of water at one time, there is still a lot of debris circulating in the water...most of which will get trapped in the filter.

Do not get this
Date: April 7, 2007
"I bought this for a 10 gallon tank I have mainly because it said it was so easy to use and that is was self starting. After a lot of effort on my part it started to work and then it barely cleaned up and debris, uneaten food.......it did suck up some water, but that was still after ALOT OF EFFORT. I would not recommend this product."

Why buy any others?
Date: November 28, 2005
"I have only had two gravel vacumes and they are both lees. If you have an aquarium this is a must have. not only does it pull up un eatten food but also gets to the bottom of the gravel and sucks up all that nasty gunk that clouds your aquarium. They survive being steped on a couple of times but there not hard to break. This is a GREAT product and a serious must have for any aquarium between 5 gallons and 500 gallons. lastly if your not sure about the size alwase go with the bigger one i have the smallest for my 5 gallon aquarium and a large one for my 55 gallon aquarium and i use my large one in both alot of the times."
