"This stuff is great, all it says it is. The first time I used it I was amazed at how much it expanded after I wet it in the bucket and at how much bedding I ended up with from just one little brick. It fills my 10 gallon completely to a 4" depth and my corns love burrowing in it, traveling from one end of the tank to the other under the surface sometimes. It's easy to pick out their waste because it seems to clump up on top and it holds moisture well when I spray it down. Lasts a long time. You have to keep stirring it when you spray it down because it soaks up so much moisture on the top that none goes below, only the top half inch gets wet, but that's no big deal. Excellent product!"

Perfect product! Date: May 20, 2008
"After reading several different books on what type of substrate I should use for my snake, I was left rather confused. Most of the books said NOT to use sand, mulch, wood shavings, or AstroTurf... all for various reasons (too rough for snakes, it gets worked in between the scales, splintering, etc.) Until I found this I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to use!
I've used this product & the "Eco-Earth" brand with the same results. It's very simple to use: just place your brick into a bucket (with the recommended amount of water) and wait about 30 minutes to fully expand. I've found it actually works best if you pull it apart every 5-10 minutes while it soaking so the water gets to the center of the brick faster. I take it out and let it dry for a bit under the sun, but you don't have to do that.
One brick yields quite a bit of soil. Just as a reference for you, I use 3 bricks to fill about 3"-4" of the bottom of my 55 gallon tank. I use a cat liter scoop to get his waste and sift out any extra sheadings that didn't come off with the one big piece.
I wouldn't use anything else with my snake!"
