Not So Bad but Could Be Better

"Better way to feed fish instead of removing cover or another opening on top cover to feed fish."

Cool Betta Tank
Date: October 5, 2009
"I got this Tank yesterday and so far I love it! I went to Petco to get one of these awesome tanks. When we got home we set it up and it worked PERFECT! The Filter system is so quiet and the light does`nt get too hot either. The Filter system works well FOR it`s size and cleans the Tank really good. The Filter system also is`nt too strong for Betta`s. It`s also big enough to hold up to 1-5 fish.If you just put in some gravel and plants it becomes a very nice decor. This Tank is also a PERFECT Tank for Bettas , I have 1 Male Betta in the Tank right now and I think he loves his new home. We might get a Female Betta too.The ONLY negative part about it is that there really is no place to feed your fish exept for the little slot by the filter. Either than that this is a 100% Tank. I would recemend it to anybody."

Great for Bettas
Date: April 23, 2009
"I bought this tank as a step up from a Betta-specific tank to help my single male thrive. I've had it about a month and a half now and he's doing great. Some say that the filter is too strong for a Betta, but mine loves getting his exercise by swimming against it and then diving to rest. It's large enough to have a small heater to keep him at optimum temperature and support a variety of decorations. I fit two plants, a hollow chest, and two solid items in there and he likes to sleep/hide in and lay on his accessories.
He came down with fin rot and I treated him for it, but realized that the Bio-Wheel bacteria could have been killed by the medication I was giving. I waited a couple weeks to see if the wheel showed any change and learned that the beneficial bacteria on the wheel are more resilient than I thought and were thriving, even after a week of antibiotics.
If you're looking for an excellent tank for a lone Betta, I highly recommend this tank."

Regretful Purchase
Date: March 30, 2009
"Purchased this system less than 2 weeks ago and the pump has already quit working. It is an attractive tank, but is difficult to clean and very inconvienent to feed fish. I wish I would have spent a few extra bucks and got something slightly larger."

AMAZING!!
Date: March 8, 2009
"I just recently bought this tank, about a couple weeks ago. I waited to write a review to see how the tank worked out first.
First off, it is absolutely amazing. The filter is unbelievably quiet, and keeps the water clean for my white (lol) betta. With my other tank, I had an undergravel filter, and the air pump it required would vibrate against our island in the kitchen, and would become somewhat noisy.
There are a couple cons, but thats it. The light take a couple seconds to turn on, but DO NOT TAKE IT BACK!! I did this with the first one I bought, but also because it had a crack in the top corner of the tank. Also, a hinged feeding lid would be nice, but the little space where the filter is works just fine.
But the PROS outweigh the CONS. The lighting is perfect, and shows off my little guy's red spots on his white body, and his jagged tail. (He's a crowntail Betta, but he did get a case of fin rot a couple months ago, but its taken care of now). I don't have to mess with the undergravel filter anymore, so all I have to do is dump the gravel in, spread it out, and make a couple holes for is plants and rocks.
My Betta loves his tank. He is displaying 24/7 and has just recently built a bubble nest that takes up about half the tank. He is so happy in his three gal!! THANK YOU MARINELAND for making such excellent products!"

perfect
Date: August 18, 2008
"just bought for my beta who spent his first 1.5years in a 1.5G lemonade type jar. His home kept getting dirty quickly so I changed him to this larger tank. So far he loves it (esp the light) and his tank is clean. It was so easy to set up and very quite. It only took about 5 minutes to get it out of the box and set up.
I would recommend this to anyone. I am going to buy 2 more (maybe 6G or 12G) to start my saltwater tank and chilid tank. I have had a 29G bowfront tank for a while now and may get rid of it for an Eclipse system. Must better in my opinion!!!

Good tank so far !!!!!
Date: July 7, 2008
"I have this tank for about two month so far and it is doing good. I had problems the first time I got it cause one of the corners broke while assembling the tank but I went to PETCO and they replaced it without any problems. My betta fish named 'FISHY' used to be in a 1 gallon tank and he was ok but I always was unhappy to see him in the same spot all the time. I got this 3 gallon tank and he is the happiest fish ever. He swim and swim and swim around, he likes to go with the water flow for exercise and he is always showing how happy he is with all the space on the tank. The only thing I don't like about the tank is the small opening for feeding the fish. There is not much space to put your hand but bettas food are pellets so FISHY got used to the new method of feeding after few days. I can't complain about the filtering system, it is quiet and water is clean all the time (at least when you change the filter every two weeks). I'm planning to get more fishes in a bigger tank and I will definetely consider a Marineland Eclipse tank for the next step."

Great Tank!
Date: April 7, 2008
"I have had my Eclipse Three for almost two months now, and I couldn't be happier. I have one black moor goldfish in mine, and he is very happy. He is a filthy little guy, so I clean it often...but the tank does a fantastic job with filtration. Also, it looks wonderful with the light on. I am very pleased with my purchase!"

Amazing System, Great Price!!!
Date: April 1, 2008
"I got this tank thinking that I was going to have to clean my tank constantly.... I was dead wrong, the filtration was amazing I have had this tank for nearly four months now and I have never had algae or problems with cloudiness. Also I have only had to gravel vac' it TWO TIMES!!! I test my water every other day and I have never had anything but perfect levels. (I have replaced the filter cartridge once and i washed out the old one once, as was recommended.)
I have 3 female Guppies 1 male and approximately 30 babies and even with this many fish it has still retained its perfect water levels. I would recommend this tank as an office, guppy, small fish, or starter tank for anyone.

Pleased with product and customer service
Date: February 26, 2008
"I've only had this tank for a few days, but so far I'm pleased with it. I agree with many of the other reviews that say that the filter is inadequate and I have purchased a separate filter. I have one betta in it, and after a day with the fish in it the water was cloudy. The filter had removed some impurities (visible in the filter) but the water wasn't clear.
Also, the light that came with my tank did not work when I got it home. I had already set up the tank and put my fish in it before I tested the light, so returning it to the store wasn't really an option. Since the light is under warranty for 90 days after purchase, I contacted Marineland regarding this issue and have been extremely pleased with the quality and speed of customer service that I have received from them.
Overall, I have been pleased with this product. I believe it to be a good value for what I paid for it - it's not perfect but you get what you pay for.
It is the perfect size for my tiny apartment, and I love the appearance. Unlike so many other small aquariums that would look out of place anywhere but possibly in a kid's bedroom this one fits in well with my decor. My betta loves his new home and I love how it looks!"

Beautiful Display
Date: February 20, 2008
"The styling of these Eclipse Tanks are nice enough for the living room. Some of their competitors are colorful and better suited for a bedroom. It's a great quality product for the price paid. Marineland, and their bio-filters are proven winners.
If you are not going to add another filter to the tank, (sponge, corner), this tank will hold about as many fish as the Marineland Hex 5 gallon. The reason I say this:
1. The surface area of the tank is almost the same as the 5 gal, and probably the 7 gal if you ever see one.
2 The filter, & pad is the same one as the 5 gal, the measured flow is on 35 GPH, which is fine for a 3 gal, but not any larger tank.
Another point to consider, (and you would only know this if you are in the hobby), is that this tank is much easier to clean with a turkey baster, (LOL-works great), than a hex, which is hard to clean.
This Eclipse 3 gal tank looks wonderful!! I'm looking a a 3 gal acrylic, black hood cube tank on my desk right now that I have had, (though in the closet for a while), for over 20 years. Acrylic will last if you you are careful, and to the owners where the filter breaks, just get a corner, sponge, or undergravel filter and you will be fine."

Perfect for male betta!!!
Date: February 13, 2008
"I bought this fish tank for my betta Sparky because I read a book saying that for every inch of betta, a gallon of water is needed. Because bettas don´t like deep water, length is more desirable, and this is PERFECT!. Sparky very much enjoys swimming in this tank by himself. He´s got space and plants to hide behind, but not so much that it chokes up the aquarium. The filter is top notch as well. The only down side is that you need to buy a separate air pump system and heater, but no one tank has it all. Overall, I can´t wait to get the 6 gal or larger for more fish!!! Definitely worth the money! And it fits perfectly on a little table!!! (With rocks, holds a little over 2 gal of water.)"

Poor investment
Date: October 24, 2007
"It's a nice aquarium, for about a year. The housing for the ballast cracked in less than a year, which destroyed the lighting system. Replacement (the entire top assembly) costs about $35. Just after a year, the pump quit.
We're left with a $50 goldfish bowl - no lights, no filter, no water movement.

Very Nice First Aquarium for 9 Year Old
Date: June 16, 2007
"This Eclipse System 3 is a very nice starting tank for a nine 9 old who recently received a "free" beta fish at a birthday party (i.e., it was not her b-day, the fish was the prize that kids normally get at parties these days). Not to worry though, the entire family is very much enjoying the fish and two snails. With regards to feeding, while it is not optimum, you most certainly can just open the filter access door and drop the food into the area that is about 1 inch wide to the front of the filter. Not perfect, but there's no reason to lift the entire lid. One item to note - the instructions, while minimal, show a water fill line - you really need to fill it to around that line or the filter will not work! Imagine my horror as I hear this nasty clunking and vibrating sound (I'm assuming the filter is defective). As a last resort, I re-examine the instructions and see the water fill line and after adding just a little more water, voila, a *VERY* quiet filter. I am extremely pleased. My only wish is that the top black part came in different colors (like some other brands that Petco carries)."
