LOVE IT!!!
Date: October 31, 2009
"I have a AquaClear 110 set up on a 35 gallon saltwater aquarium. I can say enough about the clarity it provides. I have some pretty spendy corals in this tank and they r thriving. Great flow and siper quiet. For anyone wanting a small easy saltwater setup i would recommend this filter."

Great
Date: September 6, 2009
"I've only had this filter for 2 weeks, but so far I'm very impressed. It keeps my water crystal clear and is pretty quiet. My aquarium is just at the foot of my bed and the tiny bit of noise it makes doesn't bother me at all. The only thing I'd like to suggest is that you keep it turned off when adding new substrate or just moving around current substrate. The tiniest bit of sand will clog it up and it's a bit difficult to clean. Overall I'm glad I got this filter and I'd definitely recommend it to a friend."

Very Quiet
Date: August 13, 2009
"Working in fish sales, I would recommend this product to anyone. I keep a 10g beside my bed and literally the only sound you will hear is the slight drizzle of water, like a fountain. You will never hear the motor unless there isn't enough water and even then it is very quite (I actually had one burn up because I didn't hear the motor running w/o water and even then it was a few days before I realized that the filter wasn't even on).
Not only is it quiet, but it also keeps the tank clean and clear. It filters on three levels: Mechanical, Biological, and Chemical (which is exactly what you want!). The sponge you only need to replace every 6 months or more (and then only if you can no longer rinse the stuff out). The carbon does require changing about every month, but it is inexpensive, comes in packs of three, and is sold everywhere. The biological filter almost never needs replacing (only when the porcelein begins to degrade, which took two years in my tank) and again is very cheap and can be bought in packs.
As with all filters, I would recommned buying a size up from what you have (ie, if you have a 10g buy a filter for a 20g) just because you can never have enough filtration, but even if you didn't I believe it would be sufficient.
All in all, I have had mine for nearly three years, bought them for my other tanks, and don't plan on changing anytime soon."

Efficient, easy to clean
Date: May 30, 2009
"Unobtrusive, quiet and great water flow. Occasionally very minor noise (bubbles maybe) but mostly completely silent. Returns water at surface for good circulation in tank. Water flow can be adjusted higher/lower for low flow at feeding time.
Came with 3 kinds of media, foam, charcoal and bio pellets (ceramic pellets that encourage helpful bacteria growth for bio cycling in the tank).
Can add your own bags of media if you like or buy theirs, either way very easy access for changing media. Whole filter can be removed if you want to do a 100% cleaning but of course not all media should be changed at once or you will upset the bio balance of the tank. Replace the various media items (foam, charcoal, bio pellets) in rotation to avoid this.
Bought a "50" model for my 55 gallon tank and it's working very well, water is 100% clear plus it moves water around nicely but not so much the fish have to swim just to stay in place."

AquaClear 30
Date: March 27, 2009
"This filter is better then any other HOB filter i've ever had, my 10 gallon saltwater tank is always crystal clear and my fish are always swimming! I have not had a single fish die with this filter, the control on the gph is perfect for feeding time, and the media is perfect you can have alomost a mini canister filter on the back of your tank! Hagen did a great job with the new AquaClears. Thumbs up!"

"I swear by these filters they are simple and easy to use, and clean. I have two and I have never had to replace them they keep the water very clean. The only incident I have ever had was when the magnet stopped but I cleaned it and then it has been fine since. They have lasted me many years. I would definitely recommend them. As long as you keep the water level up they are silent."

Quiet pump

"I bought the aquaclear 50 for my 40 gal.
Easy to assemble and service. It made a little noise at first but found I hadn't pushed the intake u tube in far enough. Can't even here it running now.

works well
Date: October 5, 2008
"This unit is the best filter that hangs on the back of the tank. The only issue you may face is if you take it apart for cleaning make sure you install the propeller before you put the plastic cover over it. If you don’t it will still work but makes noise from the propeller rubbing on the plastic. Also this will save you money as you don’t have replacement filter to buy you just clean the foam one. The only suggestion I would make is buy the larger size if you are close to the max gallon size for the filter."

DO NOT BUY
Date: August 21, 2008
"I have had to replace this filter pump 3 times in the last year!!! I have a 55 gallon tank and the first one I bought upon referral of one of the employees was the Aquaclear 50 it lasted about 6 months then the motor burned out on it. So I replaced it with another 50 and 3 months later IT burned out. So I replaced it with the Aguaclear 70 thinking that maybe I just needed a larger one for the tank size and last night THAT motor burned out!! Horrible product! If you buy this be prepared to keep throwing money away!"

"2-3 years ago I bought my first AquaClear filter and I loved it. It kept my 10 gallon with only one betta nice and clean and was completely silent. I accidently dropped it while cleaning it and of course, broke my favorite filter. Bought the exact same one for my 10 gallon with now two bettas (divided) and am completely unimpressed. The plastic is much thinner, it hums and vibrates much too loudly for my bedroom at night, and my water is completely cloudy. Looks like it's time to find a new filter that will fit my tank and not put out too much current."

Total disappointment.
Date: June 9, 2008
"I bought the AquaClear 30 just recently for my 10 gallon w/ 3 baby crayfish, expecting it to get the easy job done. But, after a week or so, I'm noticing a ridiculous amount of bypass! At least half the water doesn't even go through the filter media, and I'll see a worm get sucked up, and just go shooting out the waterfall at the other end of the media! Not to mention that the media itself gradually releases waste from the carbon and "BioMax" media. Other complaints include that it vibrates quite loudly, it leaves a slightly sulfurous/rubbery scent in your tank from the foam media (no matter HOW much i clean it!), and that it's composed of EXTREMELY brittle, vibratey plastic. Thus, because I find this filter to completely and utterly fail at keeping my tank cleaner and more pleasant than a bubble filter would, I'd suggest buying an Aqueon filter, which is pretty much good in every way this filter is bad."

Get This or you'll be sorry
Date: May 21, 2008
"I've been using this power filter for a while now and I love it. I change it regularly with a few exceptions. the water is so clear, it looks like tap water right out of the sink faucet. its multi-stage system works wonders and the growth of the bacteria is kept at the top and allows it to stay in the water and is very beneficial.
I have the one for the 20 gallon tank in my 10 gallon tank and its awsome. i over filter for that added security, better to always be prepared.

workhorse of the Filters
Date: May 5, 2008
"I've used these Aquaclear filters as far back as I can remember, and some of my filters are still the "originals"
They've always done an excellent job at keeping the tank spotless.
The filters are some of the most quiet filters, the media is long lasting and can be rinsed in old tank water to use forever it seems, and the filter itself has a lot of space to add your choice of extra media/Bio Balls, etc. The filtration is powerful on these filters so I love using them on the Goldfish tanks. They come with an extender piece which I add,and it takes my intake tube all the way down to the gravel for a great clean up.
The only time they seem to ever act up,is when you've done something wrong-didn't clean it on a regular basis, didn't unplug while you were changing out water, etc.
My only complaint is that last year,Hagen jumped the prices up BIG TIME!!!!!I'm not sure if I can afford them with my budget.

Best hang on filter...........
Date: February 12, 2008
"I've been keeping fish for over six years now, and these are the best hang on the back filters I have ever used. I have atleast one on every tank. The aquaclear filter 110 is awesome!!!! They are very reliable filters. I've had one of them for over 8 years without any problems. After the filters have been running for a week, they are silent!!!! Best hang on the back filters ever for the low price!!!!!!!!!"

AquaClear Filter
Date: February 12, 2008
"Working fine for 2 years now. After 6 months had to "jump start" the impeller with a chop stick every time I took unit off for cleaning. Still using the original Bio Bag and Foam elements that came with it. The charcoal bag tore recently and I bought a bag of charcoal and some bag material for a buck or so and made my own charcoal bag using zip tie.
Only failure was when a snail crawled into the impeller. Flicked him out then jump started with my chopstick and every thing's good again!

One tough power filter
Date: January 23, 2008
"I
bought my first Hagen Aquaclear when I was about 15. I was just getting
into the aquarium craze and I wanted a power filter I could count on
and take apart easily to repair. I bought the AC 15. It was a small
filter and very reliable. It wishstood a lot of abuse from the vicious
tank inhabitants and the various kinds of debris being sucked up by the
intake after the fish stirred up the gravel. Throughout the filter's
life, I had it in gravel, sand, and rock bottomed tanks. Even though
the filter media needed replacing, and despite being 6 years old and
continuously used, the filter still runs and I've never had any
problems or noise out of it.
I love my Hagen Aquaclears and since then I have purchased 6 more
filters, from the 15 to the 110. I would highly recommend these
reliable filters.

Great filter!
Date: January 22, 2008
"I've been keeping fish for a long time and have gone through many different filter brands. AquaClears are my favorites, by far. I use one for almost every tank including my marine aquarium.
They are quiet, easy to take apart and put back together, and offer complete filtration...biological, chemical, and mechanical.
It's almost like having a canister filter but smaller and cheaper.
Attached is an old picture of my marine hermit crab, Big Red. The tank has been running with an AquaClear for over a year."
