"My Lab was about 12 years old when I started feeding ths product. I basically started her on this food because of her dry coat. I was pleasantly surprised when her foot and ear allergies cleared up as well. Happily she will be 13 in July and still thriving. She had an excellent vet check in May, good weight, heart and lungs both good."

THE best veggie food. Just ask my dogs!
Date: June 2, 2009
"My oldest dog was diagnosed with food allergies a few years back and at the time I purchased the only thing around - the very expensive vegetarian dog food from my vet. Within a month, my dog's skin improved beyond belief. Unfortunately it became difficult for me to afford to continue to feed it to her. I found this food at less than half the price and she (and my other dog that is not food-sensitive) love it. In fact, they snub any other food at this point! I will always feed this to my babies and I will also give it to any dogs I may own in the future. For the same price as most grocery store foods, I can give them clean and healthy food.
Oh! The canned version of this is amazing too. When I feed it to them you would think I put prime rib in their bowls. I am not kidding. I have no idea how they can make veggie food that is so appealing to carnivores but trust me, they can!"

"My German Shorthair had a terrible time finding a food for her sensitive tummy and her picky taste buds.
She has been eating Natures recipe for one year now and is keeping it all down. She loves the taste!

Great product
Date: March 30, 2008
"One of my Great Danes (I had a brother and sister) developed multiple allergies--food, environmental, seasonal--at about one year old. His skin would break out in horrid, red splotches and his hair would fall out. My vet diagnosed him with allergies, and since we weren't sure at that point WHAT he was allergic to, she thought we should start with the most common/obvious cause, food. So for a whole year I fed him nothing but prescription dry food, which consisted of nothing but fish and potatoes. He did great on that!
However, his sister refused to eat her normal food--she figured, hey, if my brother gets that special food, that's what I want, too! And feeding TWO Great Danes prescription food that cost $50 for 30 pounds--which they went through in less than a week--was just a tad bit expensive. After a year I asked my vet if I could try a non-prescription allergy formula, and she agreed with the caveat that if my [male] dog had a return of his symptoms we'd go back on prescription food.
I looked around, read a lot of labels, and finally decided to give Nature's Recipe Vegetarian Allergy Formula (as it was then called) a try. That was 7 years ago and I've never looked back. He--and his now deceased sister--loved it, whether fed dry or with the addition of canned food. (Although I'm vegetarian, and was thrilled to find a veggie food for my dogs, I did gradually add meat back into their diet because they are, after all, dogs.) He eats one dry meal in the morning and one with a can added at night, and he's doing great.
My 'baby' is now elderly by Great Dane standards--he just turned 9 earlier this month--but thorough exams (including lab work, x-rays, ultrasounds, and more) have caused my vet to proclaim him to be "in excellent health, not just for a SENIOR dog, but for ANY dog." :)
I highly recommend this product. I really can't say enough about how good it is."

Great Product

"I purchased the vegetarian fomula for my Bichon Frise. She has very dry skin and constantly scratches herself, which makes it worse. I took her to the vet all the time and nothing seemed to help her skin or stop the scratching. We switched to the Nature's Recipe healthy skin/vegetarian formula about 3 month's ago, and it has made a huge difference. I also have two other dogs that I am now feeding this formula and they love it."

Changed my dogs body !!!
Date: May 18, 2007
"Nature's Recipe Healthy Skin is the best thing I did for Taz. After a month on this food, she dropped several lbs in weight. It reduced the shedding of this short haired dog by over 50%. Very seldom use pet lint rollers now. Her fatty tumors stopped growing and she has not gotten anymore in the last 7 months. Her fur is always very shinning, receiving compliments. But best is she is no longer on benadryl, has sores, nor is her skin on her underneath red.
I now give Nature's Recipe to my cat. I would recommend anyone to give this a try for at least 30 days.

Allergies!
Date: March 1, 2007
"Our dog, Lucky, is a basenji/AmStaff mix who suffered from terrible allergies. He had very little hair and was always irritated and red. Exposure to dust, NYLON (material which nearly all collars are made of!), GRASS, certain other materials, and more would cause allergic reactions. His face was always itchy and his ears were raw. (face and ears are usually the first/worst affected by allergies) He saw multiple vets and was given allergy meds, and nothing seemed good enough. Finally, we found a website recommending special allergy formula foods for dogs like Lucky. We immediately switched him to this product. Lucky now has the most gorgeous coat- thick, shiny, soft... He can wear a nylon collar with no problem, dust and fresh-cut grass only make him sneeze a little. Lucky was clearly allergic to something in his food. Although he is still allergic to the other items, his immune system, etc. are stronger and can tolerate them with little or no reaction!
I definitely recommend anyone with a dog with a skin condition to give this food a try! It would also be good for pets of vegetarians or people who would like thier dog to have a healthier coat.
Unlike some other foods, it smells wonderful and the dogs LOVE it!

Allergy Formula
Date: January 20, 2007
"My beagle is allergic to lamb, chicken and turkey. I love this vegetarian formula for him because it has benefited him so much. He loves it. It is low in fat and that is so important for a beagle who gains weight just looking at food. It smells so good. This is a high quality food and I trust the company that makes it. I highly recommend it even if your dog doesn't have allergies. It is benifical for overweight dogs to keep their weight in check."

Miracle or just Marvel?
Date: May 12, 2006
"My 6-year-old Shepherd was diagnosed by one Vet as having Degenerative Myelopathy and another as having a sensitivity / reaction to epilepsy medication that he was taking. The prediction was dire - a steady decline and degeneration of the lining along his spinal cord per one of the vets. Per the other vet, he could not go off his epilepsy medicine but yet may be having a reaction which was effecting his ability to continue to walk. Talking to reasearchers at top Universities, there was nothing positive they could report. Searching the Internet, I came upon a Vet who acknowledged that his findings were solely anecdotal, and had not been documented by any statistical research. When you have nowhere else to turn, you will try almost anything. He recommended a diet with several specific vitamins and supplements. For me, the cost would have been prohibitive. It appeared that Nature's Recipe Allergy Vegetarian Formula Dog Food contained all of them. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found the dog food that I needed sitting on the shelf of my local Petco. I started him on the diet immediately. From only walking a step or two and then falling, and my having to hold him when he relieved himself, he slowly regained his strength and some of his mobility. No longer needing to hold him, he could walk a block to a local park and back home, stopping for a little break to lie on the grass and happily chew on a stick, with a passing glance at a wayward squirrel! He stabilized at that level of activity and did not appear to degenerate any further for the remaining, wonderful four years that I had him. He passed at 10 1/2 years. Which vet was right? It doesn't matter. Did this product really stall any further progression? I guess I'll never know if it was the reason and my story is just another possible anecdote. But... the real question is... if faced with the same situation again would I chose to take the same route? To purchase and feed him this dog food? The answer is simple. In a heartbeat."
