"I thought this was 'high quality' dog food. After almost a month with my puppy literally refusing to eat, (I had to toss the food across the room & he would chase it down & THEN he would eat it), I did research online for a different puppy food. In the process, I found that IAMS is not highly rated at all, a lot of people had quality issues with it, others had the same thing with their dog--- they won't eat it. I read that IAMS recently changed their formula, & that could be the problem. The company was telling these customers to switch to Eukanuba instead?? (Must be related or the same manufacturer). I recently switched to 'Eagle Pack' Large & Giant breed puppy- & he loves it so far."

IAMS large breed puppy

"I gave this to my Australian Shepherd pup Toby. The breeder had given him a different brand of puppy food, and when I switched his food to IAMS, there was a HUGE difference! His coat was ten times softer and silkier. He loves the flavor and eats it up. He is growing healthy and strong. I would highly recomend this to any large breed puppy owner!"

"I went through a few other foods and found this one my favorite. I was supplementing fish oil for some others that didn't already add it, but this one proved to be the best for his coat as well as his tone and growth. Puppies are generally athletic, but his muscle definition is obvious now. Excellent digestion, smooth coat, and he's always willing to eat his food, so definte great taste. They've added all the right ingredients"

"Let me start off by saying I don't have much experience buying puppy food. When I bought this product my puppy didn't take to it right away. I had to gradually mix and remove the previous food she was eating for a couple of days. After that it was smooth sailing. She eats it perfectly now and has become really big! Compared to her brother (who was bigger at birth) which my friend owns, she is noticeably bigger and looks more energetic/healthier than her brother after a month. My friend now switched to this product lol"

"My husband and I are extremely pleased with this product. Our baby is one of eleven in her litter and we were the only ones to feed the Iams Smart Puppy food.
She is definitely the most developed, well-trained and smartest of her siblings. We worked her a lot and good training accounts for most of it, I'm sure, but she picked up on everything so quickly we are convinced the food had some positive affect.
She is now 11 months old and we still feed it to her, the vet says it's safe for up to two years, so long as she doesn't gain extra weight."

"Don't get me wrong, there is MUCH worse dog food out there to feed your dog but this is far from being the best. I have fed it to past dogs but now that I actually read labels on what is in the food, I know better than to give this to my dog anymore. I could tell that he didn't like it because he would only eat a few bites and never actually clean his bowl. I think he's causing him skin allergies as well because he's always itching and I know it's not fleas. I am now starting him on Natural Balance: Sweet Potato and Fish. He LOVES it and cleans his bowl in no time flat. Even though his new food costs more you don't have to give them as much as you would Iams because they don't put fillers in there like corn (which is not good for your dog). I'll step off my soap box now but I wish everyone would educate themselves before purchasing dog food."

"I adopted a puppy 6 Months ago. I started feeding her what I thought was a good brand of food. She would eat but I was not satisfied with her appearance, So I swiched to Iams Large Bread Puppy and have never been happier. She has been eating Iams for about 51/2 months now and she is beautiful. Lovely glossy coat, Big bright healthy eyes, just all around healthy puppy.

"Before we purchased this brand of puppy food, our labrador had extreme shedding problems which, according to our veterinarian, was due to lack of nutrition in her current diet. We switched to Iams at our vet's request and the shedding immediately stopped. We also noticed that our puppy had more energy throughout the day and was easier to manage during training. This is by far the best choice of food when it comes to your puppy's health and overall wellness!"

"I started my Golden pup on Iams Smart Puppy Large Breed kibble when we got her in January because the vet recommended it. I never thought to actually look at the label, and because it had a good reputation and was reasonably priced I got it. My puppy has never really liked it unless I add scraps or broth to the kibble, so I'd have to say that she doesn't like the taste.
In addition, chicken by-product meal is the second ingredient! This is the meal of ground up chicken heads, feet, teeth, intestines etc. I felt awful when her trainer pointed it out to me. She also said that the chicken by-product meal was probably what was making her gassy (she can clear a room!). She has also had some skin problems and I don't think the food has helped.
I will see how she does on Nutro Ultra, but may put her on something else (don't want to switch too much). I will not buy Iams again! I understand that not everyone can afford premium dog food, and I will say that Iams is better quality than Purina Dog Chow or private label grocery store foods.... but I would rather pay more for a healthier and happier dog."

"Before I switched to this brand, my dog was eating lower quality dog food and she was eating up to six cups a day! It's actually cheaper for me to give her the Iams because it doesn't have the fillers so she isn't crying for more food right away. It's worth a try if you're not sure."
