"this product is cheaply made, the joints that hold the handle controls together that open the scooper broke numerious times until i finally lost the tiny plastic pieces, if they wanted to make this a better product they would use bolts and washers."

"I just bought one, and have not used it very much, but it should be longer! I am 6-2, with a bad back, and even with this, I have to stoop way over! Shorter people should be fine with it, but it's hard on my back! If they doubled the length, I think I would like it much more! Also, does not work on crusty, hard snow at all! I had to grab a reguler shovel!"

"I bought this product thinking that it would simplify scooping, and I was right for about a minute. BEFORE it broke, it could only pick up loose or small pieces. Now that the handle and one of the joints are broken, it's completely useless."

"We have 2 of these and the pull up handle has broken on both. I do think the cold winter weather may have contributed to that...the first was repaired with some duct tape and that worked well for a while...the other snapped clean off, so we've rigged it with some zip ties to enable continued use of the product. One of them recently had the hinge pin fall out...still functions, but not as well.
It's a great idea, the scoop has worked well on all surfaces for me and I can pick up multiple "loads" before emptying the scoop. (I have 2 large dogs, lab mixes) A more sturdy, cold-resistant material would be a huge improvement for this product."

"This is one of the better dog scoopers that I have purchased. It's durable and is easy to use. You can pick up the droppings using one hand and hold a bag in the other hand to drop the mess into for a quick and easy clean up. I'm very happy with it, which is why I buy them over and over again when one wears out. Excellent!"

"This is a wonderful concept, however it has no longevity. It is useless in the winter months (North West Indiana). Trying to pick up No.2 that has frozen to the ground or grass, forget it. The plastic teeth breaks and the spring handle snaps. If this product was made of a metal material I think it would get two thumbs up!! For now two thumbs down :-("

Finally gave up on this thing

"I've used these for years. They break every few months. It seems easy to use because it is one handed, but it tears out as much grass as the stuff you really mean to get. I switched to a less expensive one handed rake which is cheaper, better and doesn't break. Perhaps this claw thing would work better on concrete, but I use it on grass only and will not buy it again. I have 2 dogs--1 large and 1 small. They make big messes."

Allens spring action scooper

"I have had several of these and have hoped for improvements. They last for a very short time due to an engineering flaw in the hinges. The design is good but the product is weak and does not provide a long life. They break constantly. This is the last one I will buy. Petco needs to dump this product until they improve their design on the plastic hinges. I will need to see what others may be a little more durable. Allens is way over priced and a piece of junk."

Great Idea, Not Durable Enough

"This is the best type of scooper we've ever used - does the job with very little gross out factor -- but we've gone through 3 in the past 6 months - they break too easily, so we are in the market for a different type of scooper that is more durable - not putting out any more money into this one."

"This scooper worked great for 6 months. The one hand control was very useful and the claws worked great to dig into deep grass. Operationally sound, however, quality broken. The packaging the scooper comes in has a "PET SELECT Quality Guaranteed" logo, however, try finding a way to redeem the guarantee. The scoopers plastic hinge broke on my first one, but good luck trying to contact the manufacturer, there is no contact info on the packaging or the internet."

"I have been using this scooper for 2 years now. Summer and winter. It just broke this week. I have 4 dogs with the largest one being a sheltie. I scoop up quite a few piles at a time before I have to empty it. I like the one hand operation. I do think that the handle should be make out of some type of metal. The part you pull up to open the scoop is what broke. I can still use it but I have to use 2 hands by pulling up on the part by the springs. I will buy another one unless I can find one exactly like it with a metal handle."

"We have 2 small dogs (corgis) and I've found that this type of scooper lasts maybe 3 - 4 months if we're lucky! The plastic is not durable and almost always breaks at the same point; right above the hinges.
It is in no way cold weather friendly! For obvious reasons, this item must be left outdoors and when the temperature goes below 32 degrees, the scooper will snap like a frozen branch. This is a problem in New England. I bought the last scooper from our local PetCo in May and it just broke. I will not buy this type of scooper again."
