Very Happy
Date: May 31, 2007
"I have my first two ponds this year and got the green stuff so bad in Colorado full sun on ponds. I put one of these on my small 100 gal pond and in less the a week clear water after a week I now have very clear water. I bought a second one today. Keep in mind that you have to have a pump for this as well that adds to the cost of it. But hey now I can see my fish and the water looks good.
Good buy at this point

"This system works well, but it is difficult to install. It took twice as long as expected. I am happy with the results!"

Good Product, but difficult design
Date: April 2, 2007
"I have a 5,000 gallon pond and this sits behind my waterfall. This product works well, but the bulb needs to be changed every year and the screw cap lid makes this difficult. The electrical cord is in the lid and each time you screw the lid it twists the cord. Leave A LOT of slack in the cord to accommodate the cap removal. This year I am forced to replace the entire clarifier due to the wires twisting/breaking off at the cap location.
The replacement bulbs are easy to find, but not cheap. Even though tetra states 14 month bulb life, you need to replace every 12 months - preferably in spring when algae blooms are at their worst. The bulb strength declines with age. Do not touch the bulb with your fingers - the fingerprints alone will damage the UV output.
The quartz clear sleeve is not essential, so it is not necessary to replace.
For the reviewer who said the bulb broke and can't find replacement bulbs anywhere - the bulbs are offered everywhere online, but rarely in your standard pet store. This is a specialty item, as are many pond items. Either order the replacement bulb online here or try to find a local pond specialty store. Local pond stores are very rare - I say order online.

Tetra GreenFree 9 Volt U.V. Water Clarif
Date: February 1, 2006
"I bought this piece of equipment for my Koi Ponds, around 6 months ago. I have nothing but trouble out of it. I mounted it underneath a small plastic water fall, where the pump could pass the water through it, before the water returned through the pond. The bulb and the glass container protecting the bulb shattered and I cannot find replacements for them anywhere. Can you help me?"
