Very unstable
|
Date: September 25, 2008
|
"I have this aquarium stand and thought the assembly was very easy. However, when you're done, the stand is still very unstable. I've read some other reviews saying that you need to fill your tank before it is stable, but even after filling my 50 gallon tank, it's still wiggles. Basically, if you try to clean the glass, you have to be very careful or the whole aquarium will rock and you'll get water wooshing around. I ended up buying $5 worth of aluminum bars and screwed them diagonally to the stand which made the frame really stable. Makes me wonder why they didn't design it with side braces to begin with (they include the back ones which prevent it from rocking side to side)."

not worth it

"i got this for the price but .. its way to wobbly. even with water in it and the 2 ten gals bellow. i have kids and aniamls that walk by and you can see the water move up top. it should have been built with more than those little metal legs. we went out and bought a wooden one. i just was to affraid it was gonna tip on my kids or dogs. if you are gonna spend that kind of money on a big tank then get the better stand to. thats alot of water to be on you floor if it ever fell. good for little tanks but not for the big 55 gal ones."

Not too bad

"I just got this stand last week and now that I have it, I see the legs are the same legs used for the 20/10 stands. I would really think this stand should have better legs....like more solid, thicker pipe. I would also think it would have a center brace as is always recommended for 55's. I would not recommend this to anyone wanting to pile it with rocks or for a home with small children. I have my sitting behind my kitchen table so I am alright with it but I do wish I had gone with a wooden stand now."

fill it up, it works better

"to be honest the only reason im writting this is because of all the bad reviews from people who didnt fill it with water. the stand is meant to hold 55 gallons of water....if theres no water in it...thats 600 pounds lighter and its gonna be unsturdy. i was skeptical at first weather it would be sturdy, but for the price difference, i continued to fill it with water. im glad i did because it was well worth the price. it does wobble a bit if u shake it, so dont shake it!!! if something hit it, the glass would break before the stand did. it is not unsafe!!! i will be buying another shortly when i setup another tank"

Think about your needs, first
|

"OK, I'm tired of reading all of the bad reviews of this stand. So, I'm going to do my first review.
I like this stand. It fits my needs. With that being said, I would not use it with young kids in the house. If you put it together properly, it is not going to fall over if you just bump into it. You could pull it over, but it would take a fair amount of force. You are talking about 600 pounds of tank/water/decorations.
I would recommend using with a couple of 10 Gallon tanks or a 20 Gallon underneath. That adds an extra couple of hundred pounds of weight with a low center of gravity (read additional stability). If you don't need/want the extra tanks underneath, then you should probably be looking for a different stand, anyway.
Assembly: Highly recommend using a rubber mallet to bang the parts together for a tight fit. I assembled mine in about 10 minutes."

"UNSTURDY AND UNSAFE. I thought it was going to fall apart with just rocks in it. If you value your fishes lives and your furniture do not use this stand for a 55 gallon tank."

Very Unstable...would not recommend
|
Date: December 11, 2006

"I went to a Petco store and saw this stand assembled...I did not trust the way it looked at all, it seemed too flimsy. Even the Petco employee told me they get a lot of returns on this stand and he specifically said he would not recommend it.
My husband went ahead and purchased one, got it home, put it together, and I insisted he return it.
No way should this stand be used for a 55-gal. tank, in my opinion it could be dangerous.
Bottom line: you get what you pay for holds very true regarding this item. Good luck if you decide to buy one."

not stable

"I found this stand to be unstable and wobbly with a 55 gallon tank that is only 1/3 full of water. If you have children or pets that could bump into the stand, I would definitely avoid this product. If you decide to buy anyway, be sure to remember to keep the box in case you want to return it."

great stand

"I bought this stand for a 55 gallon cichlid fish tank and it works great. No wobble and sturdy. I have not used it with the two 10 gallon tanks under the 55 gallon yet but will in the future. I am going to buy another one for another 55 gallon in the office. Great product!"
