We have a 14-month old 3.5 lb teacup maltese and she is a really good dog, but we have had a problem with her barking when the UPS/FedEx guy comes to the door or if the school bus comes down the street. Normally that's not that big of a deal, but since I work from home and on the phone with clients all day, it was a real problem when she would begin barking. Anyways, we were having a hard time finding an electronic training collar that would be suitable for her size (one that is safe and that fits her small neck). We researched a ton of collars and most were made for dogs 8lbs and bigger or they just said "up to 55 lbs" which clearly wouldn't help us here.
Then we came across this one because it is says it works for a dog our size, but we were skeptical because the reviews were SO bad. We thought we'd give it a try anyways because there wasn't really anything else out there to choose from and we could return it to the local PETCO store if it was as bad as everyone said it would be and we are SO delighted we did! We bought it and had our puppy trainer come do in-home training to show us how to set it up and give her a proper correction (like you would with any other training collar) gradually increasing the level if she doesn't respond.
It takes a bit of patience to know how to train her (not because of this particular collar - it would be the same for any training collar), but once you are taught how to train your dog and you get this collar, it honestly is a piece of cake and much, much easier than the regular training collar because you don't have to be holding on to a leash to give the dog the correction.
He switched out the probes and inserted the alternate ones that came with this collar and showed us how to put the collar on and use it. I would never have put the collar on as tight as he did so I was glad he showed us how to and told us why (it wouldn't work if it were looser because they wouldn't make proper contact with her skin). Anyways, this is a dream come true because she listens so well and is very attentive and takes all the worry out of working from home now!
We have had it for a couple weeks and haven't had the batteries die yet but we did go to our local Batteries Plus store to purchase a couple extra batteries for the collar and remote so that we are prepared since all the previous reviewers all say that the batteries die so quickly.
All in all, we would HIGHLYrecommend this collar to anyone with such a small dog!

Works wonders for my pomchi. I have tested it on myself first to make sure that it's safe. Level 1 is totally painless, level two feels a bit prickly but it's not too uncomfortable- and this is what works for her. I have never had to use other levels ( there are 2 more)

This collar was very effective in training my Pomeranian. HOWEVER, it only lasted for about a month and then we couldn't get it to work anymore. We tried replacing the batteries in both the collar and the control, neither working. The innotek support line was also very useless in helping trouble shooting the problem. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COLLAR TO ANYONE.

I didn't use this very often but I was always replacing the batteries. Also after it was a few months old it just stopped working.

This was the third collar I tried for my small dog. The others collars were to heavy. Also, this can produce the bad tone and stimulation with one button or separate.

While this product was very efficient in behavior modification, the battery life and general life span was not well thought out. I actually purchased 2 collars and both were fried in less than a month. And what disappointed me the most was that I barely used the thing

I purchased this device roughly 7 months ago and had gotten the dog use to it being on her without actually turning on the device. Within one month of actual use(7months later) it seemed to just deteriorate in terms of actually working. I replaced the batteries in both units and it still didn't do the trick. It just seemed that even within 15 feet it didn't want to respond 3/4 of the time. Needless to say I am in the market for another(different) one especially now that after the failed attempts to get it to work properly I managed to leave it on the table and the dog pulled it down for her chew toy, else this one would have been going back to the store. Best of luck
