Good Investment
Date: March 22, 2009
"This is an absolutely wonderful product. With my hectic military schedule this product eliminates my worries about my pet being fed; Multiple programable schedules to the very second, flawless, and quiet operation, The timer is even battery operated; in the case of a power outage your pets feeding program will not be reset. The timer also has a built in power outlet so it will not occupy your outlet. I purchased a unit which holds about ten pounds of food. It stirs the food in the container as well. At first I did not believe all the good reviews and wanted to see it for myself, and I will say I am very impressed. I highly recommend this for anyone with a busy schedule...or who may sometimes be forgetful when it comes to their pet feeding schedules. Or just down right lazy! This product was well designed with attention to important details (thick resistant power cord in case of scratching or chewing). If your in the market for an automatic pet feeder, this surely meet your pets needs."

Broken already
Date: January 28, 2009
"I bought this product at the end of September and it is already broken. The motor stopped working and the plastic is flopping around. I tried calling the Ergo customer support and got a fast busy signal so still have not been able to resolve. I bought this at full price and it is most definitely not worth the money!"

Poorly made
Date: October 1, 2008
"I purchased a large Ergo feeder for my Chesepeake Bay Retriever in April - 2008. The motor has now stopped working September -2008 - 5 months old. I have called Ergo and have spoken to a couple people in customer service who have a hard time speaking English. It's so frustrating trying to explain what's broken (burnt out motor) to someone who can't even speak our language.
The feeder is a good idea, but it is made real poorly. If the parts had a better warranty and the customer service could actually help you, I would recommend this product. I would try another brand, which I'm going to have to do - now that mine is broken and worthless.

very easy to use and manage
Date: September 8, 2008
"I have two very obese cats that I try to watch how much they eat. I bought this because you can schedule it more times and could have as little or more food. The programming was easy to set up. It goes off every three hours. Before I would put a little in their dish and then they would eat it all at the time and want more later. This lets me give them a little at a time. Plus it is great when I go on weekend vacations. The only thing I wish is that it had an actually door that latched during non feeding times. It did not take long for them to figure out how to get more food out, even though it is just a few that come out. If it had a door that would latch shut and then open when the timer went off it would eliminate the little extra they have. Overall this is a great product, especially when trying to control the feeding of your pets. I researched other feeders and this one had the most flexibility as far as 6 timers and how much food too disburse."

Good Idea, Poor Execution
Date: July 10, 2008
"I would give it 5 paws for concept, however the quality is very poor. I used this feeder for less than 45 days with two small cats (who do not play with it or try to manipulate it for food) and it broke. The plastic is poor quality and cannot take the stress put on it by the food dispensing operation. The spout broke into multiple pieces just from normal use. The concept is outstanding. It is very customizable, and I felt it was easy to set up with many options to suit every user. If it wasn't made from junky material that is insufficient for the purpose it would be outstanding. I did call Ergo about the problem, and they were very nice, very accomodating, but I'm returning the unit because I don't want to hassle with a poorly made (although superior design) product that will likely continue to break. I also had a major problem with the matching auto water product which has sent me over the edge."

Poor Quality
Date: March 15, 2008
"The Auto Pet Feeder is a great idea, but after only one week of use the feeder jammed and the auger broke. If the manufacturer would redesign the auger and sharp plastic parts inside it might work and hold up longer. Until that is resolved I would not recommend buying this feeder.
One great thing was the ability to return the feeder to my nearest Petco store without question.

Extremely happy!
Date: February 17, 2008
"I recently purchased a Ergo pet feeder (medium size) for my cat. I will admit I was a little hesitant, because the reviews I had read seemed to be mixed. I can say however that I have no complaints at all about the feeder I purchased. Setting the timer was a bit tricky and time consuming (which I expected from what others had written) but now that it is set up it works great and I have had absolutely no problems. I was concerned about my cat learning to manipulate or tip the unit, but so far he has not been able to. He did try monkeying with it the first night, but then gave up, which is surprising for this cat as he has broken into cabinets and other containers to get to food, both his and the dog's! One feature I really like is the ability to set the feeder to feed small amounts frequently. I have it set to dispense 1 1/2 tablespoons at a time, 4 times daily. Other feeders I have seen can only dispense 1/4 cup or more per meal and this cat gains weight if fed more than 3/8 cup per day. I bought this feeder because I am often gone 10 or more hours per day and the cat was always starving when I got home. Also, we sometimes like to take weekend trips and will be gone for a week this summer and finding someone to come and feed the cat 3 times a day can be tough. This feeder solves these problems. I would highly recommend it! This would be great for cats that need to lose weight or diabetic cats who need to be fed set meals. I am a vet tech and will be recommending it to clients."

Great when not at home
Date: February 10, 2008
"I work swing shifts so it's nice to have the dogs automatically fed while I'm gone. The only thing, is my little one, figured out how to get her tongue in the feeder & gets more out than she's suppose to. Overall I like them."

Cats are smart to cheat.
Date: November 28, 2007
"I purchased two feeders for two cats. My cats were smart enough to find out how to get extra food from the machine. One can stick her paw up the spout to make more food come out. The other one jumps up on the machine, shakes it and gets extra food.
Also one of the machines did not work anymore 13 months later after purchasing.

Unfortunately Faulty
Date: July 15, 2007
"This product had real promise for helping limit feed intake, and/or supply specific quantities of pet food at a specific feeding interval. However, there are two major problems with this product.
First, if you knock or tip the dispenser, food tumbles out. How long do you think it takes your pet to figure this out? Pavlov would have a field day with this! Kind of defeats the purpose of the feeder if your pet can just stick his paw up into the spout and pull out a little kibble!
Second, it is not airtight, meaning food can oxidize and become rancid, not a pleasant meal for your pet by the time the last morsel comes around. In addition, if you live in bug land like I do, maybe you'd just rather add some protein to your pet's diet by feeding some extras. Ants can easily saunter up the dispensing spout for a quick picnic. Yuck! I'm sure the dogs and cats don't care, but I have enough trouble keeping the bugs outside. Don't really need any help by inviting them in.
I hope the manufacturer can get these problems resolved. I would like to be able to recommend some kind of feeder that will dispense small frequent feedings to my patients. Guess I will keep looking."

Not worth it

Auto Pet Feeder
Date: June 2, 2007
"We have been using the feeder for our cats (4) for the past two months. It is a great product. We now have the cats on a scheduled feeding time and they know when the auto feeder is ready to come on.
The first dispensing is for about 1.5 minutes and it takes followed by a gradual reduction through the day.
Great for the cats and easy on us.

A good buy
Date: May 1, 2007
"We purchased the medium sized feeder for our two cats. Although the small size would have been fine for cat food, the medium and large sizes have a food agitator to stir the food tank. We've used the feeder for several weeks now and have had no problems. Our cats no longer pester us to get up in the morning for breakfast, which was the main point of the purchase.
The timer for the unit is a separate piece that plugs into the wall, and the feeder plugs into the timer. If you plug the feeder directly into the wall, it would just run continuously. The timer also has a power socket that is always on, so you don't lose the use of a wall socket.
The feeder releases food fairly slowly, but it's not a problem with the timer. We release 1/3 of a cup at each feeding, which for us means running the feeder for 30 seconds. The unit is so quiet that the loudest part is the soft click of the timer activating.
Overall, construction is good. The base is made of thick, sturdy plastic. The tank is very solid as well, like a Nalgene water bottle. My only complaint is that the lid is easy to crossthread and can become stuck, but otherwise there are no problems at all."

Almost perfect
Date: April 24, 2007
"This feeder is great except for one problem: My boy cat has figured out how he can stick his paw up the spout to make more food come out. He has done this so continuously and rigorously that he actually rubbed his paw raw. One time, he was trying so hard to get the food out that he knocked the entire feeder over onto its side. Unfortunately for him, that meant no food coming out until we got back home from our trip. So this feeder is almost perfect, except for this problem."

Small Ergo System
Date: October 7, 2006
"I bought the small unit to feed my cats while I was out of town for a few days. The unit did not come with the correct directions for the timer sent with the unit. I was directed to a WEB Site and had to download the correct directions. The unit seemed to be working well before I had to go away. It ran for several days without any problems. But when I did go away the unit quit operating sometime during my absence and needles to say the cats were not vary happy when I returned home ( them being without food for a few days). I checked the unit and the impeller was jammed and will not dispense food. I used the right size food for the unit but the company has so far declined to repair or replace the item. So I now have a nice dust collector.
I assume that this problem does not happen with the larger units. So anybody thinking about getting this unit should buy the next larger one that what you would think you will need. The Small unit is gravity feed to the dispensing gear. The next one up has a mechanical feed and should not be a problem with food jamming the unit.

Great
Date: August 7, 2006
"Another review mentions a cat who uses its paw to get more food. Well my dog has figured out how to do the same thing with her tongue. However she can only get a few more pieces of food (probably ones left in the mechanism after the last feeding). The trick stops working after that. So while a few extra pieces of food may be a big deal for a cat or small dog owner, it's really not an issue with my large dog.
We bought this for when we went out of town, but now use it all the time because is just so convenient."

Not Needed
Date: July 6, 2006
"We were 1st timers & didn't realize puppy would only eat 3x per day, so we order it. Since delivery took a long time & we realized eating pattern was doable (soon it'll be 2x/ day), we'd adjusted to coming home for lunch & using meal time as a bonding & training experience. Plus Auto Feeder looked overwhelming for our tiny puppy.
We really don't recommend unless you absolutely can't make it for any meals."
