"I bought this cage for my pet rats and it is great! Easy to assemble, pretty good quality, and a fun toy. However, if you plan on getting more than one rat, I would advise you to get a bigger cage. One problem I had was that when I opened the soft-sorbent bedding, there were two dead bugs in it. (yuck) An overall great product, go ahead and buy it!"

"I'm moving and so I "downsized" from the original Large size to this medium sized one. I love it! In order to make this cage piggy approved moving some things was easy to do. I popped off the ramp and just left shelf to act a little shelter for my boy to sleep under. I didn't use the food dish and instead added a "gravity bin feeder" which is perfect for piggies. I hung up the toy in the back and that left enough floor space for my guy to walk around. He loves hiding under the shelf and will stick his head through the hole to explore. It's smaller than he's used to, but he's been in it for 2 weeks now and he's completly settled in. This is a great size for moving around, traveling and small apartments. The plastic is tough and sterdy and seems like it can take a punch. I bought this in a different store so mine is purple and not blue, but I've seen the blue and its very attractive. Great for a boy's room, or even a boy pet. The added supplies are a must for beginners--that water bottle is the only brand I use! The food dish could be better, but they are super cheap to replace online. Toys, bedding and food of course are needed. I've heard some complaints from animals chewing the cage, but the most my piggy ever does is chew on the wires...but he has never caused any damage. This cage is really hardy! I love it!"

"I purched this cage a few years ago for my two pet rats (who are now in the rat manor). The cage is very roomy and easy to clean. The accessories are all very useful and necessary. My rats chewed through the cage, though. Not the cages fault, I didn't provide enough toys. If you do purchase this kit (I HIGHLY recommend it), make sure to provide tons of toys and places to hide. The cage is O.K. for 2 rats, but better for just one. If you have 2 large rats or more than 2 rats, purchase a larger cage."

"It took an hour to find the missing peice for the water bottle, it's inside. And the cage was falling apart, I had to tighten all the peices.
I got this cage for my two rats, who chewed on the parts holding the cage together, as long as I pick it up from the bottom it's ok. My rats had to be separated due to constant fighting. I know have two of the cages and they are just the right size for one adult rat or even two."

"I bought this cage for my two baby female rats. It fits the for the moment, but at the rate they're growing I'm thinking I'll probably have to get a bigger one in the future. While the cage is good for young rats the accessories that come with it are not! The Bowl is made out of plastic which can be chewed or knocked around. Rats should really have a heavier ceramic bowl. The water bottle seemed a little large for the cage so I bought a different one. The biggest problem is the food it comes with though. Rats should really have a lab block diet so they can not just pick out the stuff they like and leave the healthy stuff. It also has corn as one of the main ingredients which is best to avoid because it is very highly suspected to cause health problems in rats. (Rats should also get a variety of fruits and vegetables in their diet.)
Overall I guess it's an okay beginner cage, but just plan on buying better quality accessories.
I also reccomend buying an igloo and a hammock or hanging tube for your rats.:)"

"This is a good place to start for one or two rats. I got it for my two baby females, and it worked great. I had everything I needed. However, once the rats got a little bigger, I decided to upgrade to a four-level home for them. This cage might seem like a good size, but rats really deserve to have more room to run and play (they are in there all the time afterall). However, I would definately suggest this as a starting point, but realize that you will probably want to treat your rats to something bigger in the near future."

"I bought this cage for my adult syrian hamster. It is better than the cheap small cages and a lot bigger. It has plenty of room and easily can accommodate toys in it. It is easy to clean and easy to set up. Also with the mesh wire your hamster can climb around the cage. The wires have small enough gaps so a hamster could not climb out. It is a great cage and I would recommend it for any adult syrian owners!!!!!"

"at first i had really liked this cage, it was easy to move and easy to clean but about half a year of having my rat she discovered she could chew the plastic. Needless to say i had to toss out the cage and buy a new one. I wouldnt recommend this cage to anyone else."

"I have read all of the reviews, I still got this cage. It came with all of the basics that someone would have to buy. I got a female black hooded rat. It is the perfect size for her. Her has room to run around and places to hide.
It was easy to put together and a little hard to take apart.
I would recommend this cage to other people, if this is there first rat.

"This cage lasted about 6mo for me before my wee one decided to start chewing on the plastic. The corners are what get eaten through the fastest. Also, the clamps that hold the metal to the plastic pan, are plastic, so...little help do they do when they are all chewed through. I guess it wouldn't be such a problem if I didn't have a new addition to the "family", a kitten. :S
Also because of the low sidings...a LOT of the bedding ends up on the outside of the cage. Making for a GREAT deal of mess. This happened right away!
I agree w/ the other comment and go look for an all metal alternative, or at least with metal caging that goes all the way down to the base of a plastic pan...so you don't experience the "escape-artist""

"I purchased this kit and two rats last night. We immediately discovered the smaller rat could climb through the wires. The next morning, we discovered the larger, but still baby, rat missing. We did find him, but I will be talking to a manager about this today."

Its A Good Starter Cage

"When I got my first rat back in 2005, this cage was a wonder. It had everything in it and was perfect. But, soon my little girl chewed two HUGE holes in the back corners and then when I realized rats need to be in pairs, this cage wouldn't have even been big enough for two. But this cage is good for nursing/pregnant does, as long as they aren't big chewers."

My Rats Ate through the Plastic!

"This cage lasted 1 month before the my rats ate a hole through the plastic at one corner and escaped. I sealed the hole with a wood plug and duct tape, and 2 days later another hole was eaten at another corner. Why build a cage out of something they can eat through? Don't ask me, and don't buy this cage! I'm now on the search for an all metal alternative."

"When I bought my first two rats (females) I also bought this cage, thinking it would be ample size for them. From the get-go this cage was far too small, even for girls. The platform is only big enough for the food dish and water bottle and with the ramp, a house, a litter box and (if you creatively arrange it) a wheel, there is no room to run around as rats need to do. I immediately purchased a bigger cage (the My First Home for Exotics -- PERFECT) and now only use the cage for quarantine purposes and, should there be an accident, as a maternity cage.
My advice: bypass this cage. It would be fine if it was more spacious and had a few more ramps. Also, the quality is shoddy and the ramp clips snapped the first day. :("

"This cage is way too small for a rat. Any other small rodent, like a hamster, it should be just fine. It's a fine cage for vet trips or a holding cage while cleaning the main one for one rat. Other than that, it's useless"

"This cage is way too small for rats. It can hold maybe one large male, but it is still not large enough. I would not recommend housing more than one rat in it. It would be ok to use for very young rats, but not for adults. Rats need space to run around and play."

"It lasted for a while, but one of the bars on the cage broke off and my rat got out. Luckily we found her but now there's now way to fix the cage we can't glue it or clip it together! It's way too small for any rat and it's just a bad product overall!!"
