USE ONLY IF YOUR CAT HAS THICK NAILS!
Date: September 29, 2008
"I bought this because the usual scissor shaped ones where not working for my Siberians. They are large cats and have very thick nails. This is very quick and painless for them, unlike what we went through with the scissor ones. The way to avoid splitting the nail is to close the handles quickly. If you do it slowly you are only pressing down on the nail and affecting the quick. Also I don't recommend this and will tell you to use the scissor type if you have a cat with thin nails. I can see how this could cause a problem with thinner nails like most cats have. But for large breeds...wow!
Also.. my opinion of the file. Looks pretty....and is pretty useless. The styptic is great to have just in case. I really like the design of the handle. I don't have to twist my hand in strange angles to get to their nails.

Wears out
Date: January 3, 2008
"After a couple months the blade is no longer sharp enough to make a clean cut across his claw. I thought it was tough to hold him down before to trim his claws, but now, when I know it's must be at least uncomfortable, it takes multiple sessions. And has anyone ever actually filed a cat's claws without general sedation? It's a useless feature. The styptic powder comes in handy when the blunt blade isn't accurate enough to make a clean cut, which shouldn't be necessary!"

Positive review

"I had always used human nail clippers for my cat and decided to try this as her dewclaw has been usually thick and cutting it was difficult. I just used this and it was so effortless...and FAST (which is important with her). I read the other reviews and I can see how it could split the nail....but I think the difference is that you need to pull it quick to get it to act like a 'guillotine' and get a clean cut. I can see how it would split if you went slower.
It was sharp enough for our use. I'm not sure how long it will last and I don't see a way to maintain the edge...but so far so good.

don't buy this product
Date: September 20, 2007
"I went to the local petco and got this product because I'm a sucker for packaging and it looked fancier than the other nail trimmers. i used it on one paw and it wrecked the claws. i had to get my own nail clipper and cuticle trimmers and spend more time fixing the mess. my poor cat was so uncomfortable. don't buy this product. it's a waste of money"
