"My cute little mouse loves this cage! she likes going on the wheel, and its not squeaky! its easy to clean too.i bought attatchments for it and she loves those as well, and they were easy to apply and fit well. THANK YOU PETCO!"

"I got this cage when I first got my hamster,Roo. I ended up taking the wheel out because it made squeeked way to much! The ladder to wheel has been chewed so the wheel is completely broken.
My hamster is very active and loves to chew on things. So I bought a whole bunch of toys for him and none of them fit in the cage! I'm getting a new cage for him.
I wouldn't recommend this cage, unless it is for a short time use."

"When I first purchased the Sam Down Under cage it looked perfect for my new hamster. But it all went down hill from there. The hamster chewed through the side part and has now chewed on both sides where the tube goes down. I wouldn't reccomend this cage at all!"

"My hamster Speckles seems to enjoy this cage. When I noticed that he started to chew on the plastic parts, I bought some bitter apple gel and put it on the parts he'd started chewing and now he leaves them alone. If the wheel starts to squeak, I take it apart and put a little spray of canola oil on it, then it's fine. Otherwise, it's a pretty good home for a hamster."

"We bought this cage under the advice of an employee at the store. We really like it, except that there is a gap near the elbow where our mouse can escape. I think it would be okay for a hamster, but not for something as tiny as a mouse. The cage was missing parts when we opened it. I think that there are better choices available."

"I figured when we bought our 4 year old two gerbils, when reading on the box that this cage was built for such creatures, it would be perfect for them. It was great for the first 2 weeks! Easy to clean, fun to add expandable parts to, allowed private spaces for the pets while allowing us to see them easily while they play, easy to assemble and clean, etc. However, 2 weeks go by, and they chewed right through one of the plastic parts a hole just big enough for them to squeeze out and take a tour of our home (complete with 3 cats!) We got lucky and were able to catch them before the cats did, however the cage was very disappointing. I can't imagine the look on our daughter's face if we had to explain that the cats ate her gerbils.
We will be spending a bit more money on a different brand and set up to keep them safe as we go forward!"

"After I got this cage and used it for a few weeks, I noticed that my hamster was acting very strange. There is not NEARLY enough 'breathing' capability. So, unless you plan to take your hamster out for at least one hour a day, and clean the cage VERY often, DO NOT buy this cage!"

"It looks nice but dont buy it your hamster will escape in a couple of months. The wheel is very loud, squeeky I put a drop of vegetable oil on it and it solved that problem but my hapster chewed a hole in the orange section within 2 months."

"I purchased one of these cages less than 2 months ago & our gerbil has already chewed through the tubing & part of the orange part that connects to the base. When I went to a Petco store to purchase another tubing, they did not have it because they do not carry it in the store!!! I was told that I would have to try & find S.A.M.'s website to get the 800- number to for a replacement! The cage should be made a little more sturdier to last a little longer than this."

"The housing was perfect when little Gerbbie was just a wee thing but now that she has grown, she seems too big for the structure. She loves it, no doubt, but I am concerned about ventilation as another reviewing observed and I also noticed Gerbbie chewing the structure which greatly concerns me. With two birds and two cats in the house, I would not want my little baby facing her housemates if she should chew her way out. I came on the website tonight to buy a new house for her ASAP. The housing was good while it lasted but not for long term use."

"When I first looked at the cage online, with my sister who also is the owner of our gerbil. It said it was for hamsters and gerbils. So we looked at the reviews and all the pictures and really liked the cage. Well when we first put Cheerio in, he loved it. But after a while he started chewing on the all plastic cage he even destroyed the entire ladder to the wheel. But the last straw was when I woke up one morning and the wheel had been chewed off and my baby gerbil was running around my room. So, I would not reccommend this cage for any gerbil owners. And it's hard to clean the cage and water bottle."

"Our dwarf hamster absolutely loves this cage. I only have a few issues with it. I don't like how the look-out tower is attatched to the rest of the cage. It just rests in the hole so it wobbles quite a bit. Also, the water bottle that comes with it sprays everywhere when you put it in the cage. So, when you're done putting it in you have to go and wipe everything up. It's a pain. Also, the ventilation could be a lot better. I have to clean the cage more often to make sure my hamster's air is nice and fresh. Overall, great cage!"

"I bought this cage for my sons hampster, we already had a 10 gal tank so we conenected them with sam tubing the hampster lives in the sam cage.my son broke the inside plate so we could not use it. I e-mailed the company and they sent a new plate free of charge"
