Good UV
Date: October 26, 2009
"I have a RES (red eared slider) aquatic turtle that needs some good UV light to keep her shell from going soft.
I chose this 10.0 UV for Desert light because the 5.0 I had before did not give off enough UV so I had to move the light closer to the basking area. I have a UV detector that tells me how much UV is being given off. This 10.0 for desert animals gives off more UV, but you still need to move it closer to the basking area than what is indicated. It says it can be 20 inches away, but even at 10 inches away, the UV registered on my UV detector is a whopping zero. At about 8 inches it registers a 2.1 . Full outdoor sunshine in the middle of the afternoon during this fall time registered a 5 on my dectector, just to give you an idea.
I still think overall this is a great light for your animal, whether it's a desert animal or a tropical animal...but that's my opinion."

Great Item but too large
Date: June 25, 2009
"This UVB gives my baby painted turtle the light sources he needs to grow!! The one downside is that you need to buy the special Zoo Med Deep Dome clamp lamp in order for this light to fit inside without sticking out of the bottom.
I had purchased the regular flukers clamp lamp & this light stuck out so much that it wouldnt lay flat on my mesh screen cover AND everytime I walked into the room, I had to cover my eyes & make sure I wasnt getting blinded to death."
