Flexi All-Belt Leash: Great Dog Training Tool

"I've used a lot of leashes in my dog training business and with my own dogs, and the Flexi products consistently provide good results. The all-belt leash is my favorite, because it's sturdy and reliable training leash.
Design:
The leash sports a nylon belt style, which I prefer to the cord-type retractables. The flat belt allows for better control because it?s less flimsy than the cord-types. This is especially important when the leash is expanded to its fullest length.
The belt is 16 feet long (but is available up to 26 feet), wound onto a cylinder inside a plastic casing that has a comfortable grip handle. On the plastic case, at the point where the thumb rests comfortably, sits a button that controls the tension on the leash, allowing it to extend up to its maximum length, or lock into place at any point along the way.
At the opposite end of the nylon belt is a heavy-duty metal hook that attaches to the ring of the dog's collar.
Use:
When purchasing one of these leashes, time should be invested in learning proper handling techniques to avoid tangles and tripping up the dog and owner.
When the tension button is in the lock position, the leash maintains a constant length. This is ideal when teaching a dog to walk by your side without pulling, and its use is similar to standard leashes. The button must be pressed down firmly to lock in place.
In the "up" position, the button allows the leash to move freely, so that the line can be expanded and retracted with no intervention from the handler. While in this position, the button can be pressed down but not locked, so that the handler can momentarily stop the movementof the leash if needed. Removing the pressure on the button opens up the line again.
A major benefit of this leash is that, by using the alternating open-close position, dogs can be reigned in easily. This is the perfect way to teach a dog ?come? or ?fetch.? In addition, it?s a good way to teach "stay," by gradually opening up the line and moving further and further from the dog in increments. These are the reasons that I like this leash. It is a good training tool, and can quickly bring unruly dogs under control when properly used.
Durability:
The leash is sturdy, and will last a long time, depending upon the tension applied. This is not to say that the nylon can't eventually fray. And, as with any leash, it cannot withstand chewing. The plastic case is tough, and would take a good deal of misuse to damage.
Cons:
I find the tension button on the leash more difficult to work than it should be. It takes some pressure to lock into position, and it?s hard to do that quickly when a situation demands it. I?ve found this to be a drawback in the general design.
The manufacturer's warning label explains a danger of this (and any) retractable leash: the possibility of leash burns, cuts, or even finger amputations if one grips the belt when it is in retractable mode. Practice and vigilance in using the leash can guard against this danger, which means keeping hands off the belt when it's moving. It's also obvious that children should not be allowed unsupervised use of a retractable leash.
Overall, I rate this as an excellent leash for training dogs in a variety of exercises."

"I might about a year's worth of use out of them before they fail. In the past five years, I've probably gone through a dozen units. Either the strap breaks out off the body or the spring loses its spring and fails to retract. I even had the body crack in my hands on one unit. Its always something. At the price they charge the units should last much much longer."

"I recently purchased the retractable all belt leash and love it. It gives my dog more freedom on long walks where leashes are required. "I have to admit these leashes are the best for all dogs of all sizes.I have experinced this leash walking a few other dogs that are my friends.My dog would love another one of these because he can walk a longer distance without waiting for you and you can choose when to make him stop or when you want him to start walking again.My aunts & grandma would also like to compliment on how good these leashes are because it doesn't have adisadvantage for my aunt or grandma.I hope I will be back soon to buy some as christmas presents."
