"We have a 5 yr old cat who was occ. urinating on one spot on our carpeting. She could go months without doing it, then would do it again. We ripped up the carpeting, flooring and she still went over there. So we got this collar to keep her out of the area. She will not go over there now at all. She hears the beep and runs away before even getting the static sensation. She is a 15.5lb cat. We needed to trim the collar alittle, but it seems to be working."

Very effective if used correctly

"I see some negative reviews and am not surprised - if you don't use the system properly (like I did the first few days) it is completely ineffective. Use it right and you'll see instant results. My tips...
1.) You have to make sure the collar is tight enough that both prongs are accessing the dogs skin (not just fur). If not they won't even receive a correction. It took practice to find the right adjustment that was tight enough but not uncomfortable for her. I put it on...tightened it slightly tried again and continued tightening until she received her first correction and marked that location on the collar.
2.) Pretend to be the dog with the collar in your hand to test the system thoroughly to make sure there is no way your dog can get to where they are not supposed to without getting a correction. (they give you a tester so you don't have to get shocked)My first settings were not wide enough and yes she figured out how to get around them.
3.) Watch your dog for the first few times and adjust positioning as needed. My trash/counter surfing dog had to be tempted with a piece of turkey so I could watch her approach and make adjustments as needed.

"The premise behind the use of the zones to condition an avoidance to a particular area or item is sound, but not well acheived by the unit due o it's poor collar unit design. The collar unit is not dependable and does not work properly on a consistant basis. Innotek customer service was insufficient in addressing the problem. I have been pleased with the performance of the innotek bark collars I have used previously, but this product is truly a dissapointment as is their customer service."

"I bought the zone training collar to keep my Jack Russell Terrier from getting inside my cats' litter box. I placed the base next to the litter box and set the range to a couple of feet.
After following the instructions for setting up the collar, I put it on my dog.
The collar shocked her once but ever since then, it has not worked.
I tried moving the base, changing the batteries, switching the zone from A to B, etc, but my dog is able to basically walk right up to the base without any effect whatsoever."

"I have a stubborn and smart 7 month old puggle. He can do regular tricks and yet pretend not to understand simple commands like "off" or "no".
I bought this system in foresight of a Christmas tree soon. I put the zone in sight in front of my couch and now after 2 attempts he will NOT go in my entire living room. "This product might work for small, timid or "not too bright" dogs. Mine however figured out in a hurry that all he had to do was move fast past the sensor to gain access to where ever he wasn't suppose to be. After just a couple of days he didn't even react to the collar at all sometimes even standing right next to the sensor for several minutes. I know it was working because I could see his neck muscles twitching. This product would be better if you could adjust the strength of the shock and not just the barrier distance."

"I purchased the zone from the store to train a Doberman pup of 9 months. If there is a lot of noise the tone is so low he does not hear it. And he gets shocked with no warning. The battery back on the collar can be caught and turn to off or open. I had it happen to the first one I bought. I guess it was that loose. And you can't get a replacement according to the store. One Zone I bought the battery compartment was not correct and the batteries just slopped around in it. I had to push the contacts in to get the batteries to stay in and work. And with it the collar it did not work at all when I got it. So I returned it.
The range they says is 2-12 feet. But I only get about 6feet out of mine. And if you set it up off the floor on something I get even less. For the money I would have expected better. I was kind of dissappointed."

"A GREAT PRODUCT! We have three zones setup. 2 of them are placed in doorways to keep our dog confined to the kitchen/family room and the other is used to keep him from pulling on the curtain. Works like a champ! I love that our other dog (who is well behaved) can still move around in the house without restrictions. This saved our pet from becoming an "outdoor only" dog."

"We wanted to keep our dog from going down the hallway. He was housetrained in the main part of the house, but he kept pooping and peeing in our bedrooms.
When I first got the zone, it did NOT work at all. I thought the dumb dog was sitting right there on top of the zone, ignoring the shock. We figured out later that we simply did not have the collar tight enough! (dumb pet owner!) We marked the hole with magic marker for proper adjustment every time and it works perfectly now!"

1. The dog stayed out of the areas that have the zones.
2. It sounds off with a light audible before delivering the shock in order to give them time to get away.
3. It feels like sticking your finger in a light socket.
Drawbacks:
1. Not able to select audible sound or sound + shock.
2. The distance is not the same all of the way around the zone.
3. If the dog moves through the zone fast it may get a delayed shock or none at all.
4. Not able to adjust the strength of the shock.
5. Collar needs a low battery light or tone.
All in all the product does the trick keeping Fido away from the areas.
As a note to the person that wrote the review stating that the shock was not potient enough for their big dog. I think that you should take it back, I know that when I put my finger across the terminals it sure doesn't feel good, I would even stay away from that."

"My dog was getting on the couch and going to the bathroom every time we left the house. With the Zones he attempted one more time and has not ever done it again.
I have seen many products in my life but never one as good as this one. I wish other companies could come up with solutions like these. Life would be easier."

"My dog was constantly stealing food out of the cat's food bowl and getting into the cat box. I placed one sensor in close proximity with the food/box and haven't had to yell at the dog ever since. The only draw back is to be sure the batteries are charged. I have noticed that when the batteries start getting low the unit doesn't respond as quickly. I have to replace them about every three months."

"I don't know how else I can say this, but this product simply doesn't work. We have a 25 lb Australian Shepherd-Border Collie Mix that we are trying to train to stay out of the living room area and off the couches. We purchased this product upon the recommendation of a PetCo employee and are very disappointed. Not only does it not keep our dog out of the living room, but she has actually sat right on top of the transmitter with no effect whatsoever. Yes it's turned on and makes its little beeping sound when she gets near it, but the shock is so weak that it has no effect at all (I tried it myself and it feels like a static electricity handshake). This product is a complete waster of money and time. "
