Best small filter I've ever used
Date: April 6, 2007
"I've had this teeny tiny filter on a teeny tiny 2.5g tank in my office for about 6 months, and it is fantastic. It's virtually silent and so efficient - the water is absolutely sparkling clear all the time.
It also has a very adjustable output flow for such a small filter, which is good because I have a paradise fish who likes to swim in the current of the filter, but doesn't enjoy a tsunami effect in his itty bitty tank.
I've kept tanks of all sizes since I was a kid, and I've used all sorts of filters, and I've never found a small one to beat this little guy. It keeps my tiny tank as clean as my canister filter keeps my larger tank. I've been very, very impressed."

AMAZING mini-filter!!!
Date: May 31, 2009
"I went to Petco and bought the Betta mini-bow 2.5g for my betta fish Tito. The filter it comes with is big and bulky and takes up too much space in the tank, and is also very loud. So i went to the store and bought the Red Sea Deco Art Nano Filter. It works just as good as it says!!! The water is sooo clear and sparkling. And best of all the filter is SILENT!! and it doesnt take up any room at all!! If you are thinking about getting this filter DO IT!!!! you will not be disappointed!!"

Good for a betta
Date: April 17, 2009
"At first I had a problem with this filter leaking, but merely twisting the two pieces apart and putting them back together fixed that. I also don't like that there isn't a place for carbon or zeolite, which I like to have in my filters. I think that is cheap. On the good side, the filter is SILENT, and I am very sensitive to noise. But, I can have the tank in my bedroom. I put it on the 2.5 mini bow, and it works really well and has a nice variable option. In my pic you can barely see it on the left, it takes up very little room in the water. I just gave it the 4 star rating because of the problem with the leak, which the package instructions did nothing to explain, and the cheap filter pads."

Great little filter
Date: April 14, 2009
"After reading all the great reviews on this website, I bought this filter for my 2.5 gallon mini-bow aquarium for my betta fish. The great part is that this hang-on filter is a huge improvement over the in-tank filter that comes with that particular aquarium. I keep the tank on my desk at work, so I was really worried about the noise bothering me or others. But this filter is absolutely amazing. Can't hear a thing and it's hidden from view. The bad news is that I was a little disappointed in the quality of the unit when I received it. There are no Petco stores in my area, so I have to do all my ordering online...inconvenient when you need to return a new nano filter that leaks everywhere! When I first plugged in the unit, I noticed a large puddle behind my tank. Water was leaking from the filter unit because it looks like the plastic pieces weren't assembled correctly. It took a day of finding the leaks and covering them with glue and sealant, but now it works great! Definitely a MUST BUY for the 2.5 gallon mini-bow tank."

"Do I make myself clear?"
Date: April 9, 2009
"I purchased a few of these for my bettas in hopes of cycling their tanks and generally keeping the water a bit cleaner. I must say I'm impressed with how well these filters work! One of my boys had pretty gunky water from the new decorations I put in, but within a half hour the water was crystal clear. They absolutely love to swim and play in the current, and I'm happy because all I can hear is a soft hum (but far away they're silent), and the gentle trickle of water.
My only issue is that one of my filters seems to run a bit more strongly than the other for some reason, even though both are on the lowest setting, and so it will sometimes make a loud buzzing noise as it rattles the lid and side of my Mini-bow 2.5G. I just reset the filter to the side of the tank and move the lid back and it's all quiet again. That one also drips a little down the cord, but since most filters suggest having a drip loop for that reason, I guess it just happens sometimes.
Overall these filters are wonderful, and hopefully my boys will have fully cycled tanks soon!"

Small yet powerful
Date: February 13, 2009
"I own a 2.5 gallon tank and the Whisper filter it came with did its job well enough, but hummed too loud and took too much space up. I replaced it with this filter and am glad I did. The Nano Filter is nearly silent (it IS silent a foot or two away), uses the traditional out-the-back design instead of being inside the tank, and is tiny but powerful (which can be customized easily)."

Very Happy with Product
Date: January 12, 2009
"Very pleased with the Red Sea Nano Filter. I have the MiniBow 2.5 and wanted to upgrade from the original filter system it came with. The Nano is still working great after 5 months. It is silent and the maintenance is simple. I only gave 4 paws for one reason; I can only buy the replacement filter pads and filter cartridges ( little white felt pad between the inside chambers) online . I cannot find them in stores anywhere. Overall a great product."

Great Little Filter
Date: January 5, 2009
"I bought this for my 2.5 gallon mini-tank where I house African Dwarf Frogs and it has been a great purchase. The water stays crystal clear and it is small enough to fit nicely in the back of the tank. The filter cartridges are easy to replace (and cheap!) and the clear casing allows you to see when they're dirty. Overall, this filter has been a great improvement to my tank over the one that it came with. I highly recommend it if you have a small aquarium."

Quiet and effective
Date: December 5, 2008
"This is one amazing little filter. I have it in my 2.5 gallon mini tank, and I have nothing but good things to say about it.
First, it is very quiet. It only creates a very low humming sound once it gets working.
Second, the adjustable flow valve is a great little addition. When I had it on full flow, it made the tank look like a washing machine! But once I turned it down, it was perfect. You can even almost close it for fish like bettas that don't like fast-moving water.
I also like the clear casing. It makes it slightly less noticeable behind my tank.
All in all, a great little filter for little tanks."

A little filter with big power!
Date: November 17, 2008
"This is the best filter I have ever used. It's super quiet (even quieter than the Whisper filters IMO) The casing is fairly narrow depth-wise, and clear so it's hardly noticeable behind the tank. The filter pads are easily accessible, changeable, and cheap to boot. I have mine set up on my 2.5 mini bow for my betta and on the lowest flow setting it just has a small ripple effect on the surface. Within an hour of installing it the water went from cloudy (because of the new gravel I had put in) to crystal clear.
My only wish is that it came with some ceramic media for bacterial filtration."

Highly Recommend!!
Date: October 1, 2008
"I have the Marina 1.77 gallon Goldfish starter kit, and just wasn't happy with the filter that came with it. I have two African Dwarf Frogs (Fred and Ethel) and a small albino cat fish (Phelps) in the tank. The filter that came with the kit was okay, but just okay. Upon the recommendation in the reviews on this website, I purchased the Red Sea Nano. All I can say is WOW!! It took less than 24 hours for the water to be crystal clear. The only downfall for me is that the filter doesn't allow me to shut the lid completely, but am thinking of upgrading their tank to the 2.5 mini-glass anyway. But overall, I highly recommend this filter. If you think your water is clear now, just wait until you put this filter in! It brings a whole new meaning to "clear water.!""

Nice!!!
Date: July 25, 2008
"I am currently using this on my 2.5 gallon tank and it keeps the water really clear & clean. The first filter pad lasted about a week before it needed to be replaced but that's because my water was really dirty even though I kept changing it. So I suggest buying the filter replacement pads as well, but other than that, I'm really happy with it. It is really quiet too, which is nice."

"The filter was a great price, my only issue with it is that when it is set on high water flow, the water comes out over both sides and over the top of the filter so i had to adjust it to a lower flow. The water is not as clear as i would like it."

Not a wise purchase...
Date: June 9, 2008
"I bought one of these about a month ago for my 2.5 gallon, and the first thing I noticed when I tried to hang it on, it barely fit around the rim (and this a 2.5 gallon that looks like a mini 10 gallon). Not only that, but the filter took a while to prime, and vibrated excessively. It sounded a pencil sharpener, and I needed to adjust it and tighten its grip onto the aquarium to prevent too much loud vibration. Then, once primed, it wouldn't stop making struggling noises until I put the filter on max power. Other complaints include that there isn't any beneficial bacteria growth whatsoever and the filter pads get dirty, fast. Also, the water overflows and completely misses the pads, going out the left side of the filter instead of the right, whenever its lid is on... Which creates a lot of annoying, bubbly bypass. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this thing to anyone... maybe I just got a bad copy, but who knows."

VERY GOOD PURCHASE
Date: May 30, 2008
"I just bought this filter because it had a very good reveiw. I am proud that i did it keeps my 1.5 gallon tank crystal clear. I bought my first fish a couple of months ago. I purchased a beta, and with the fish i bought a tetra water wonders 1.5 gallon tank kit. I just want to say it is a great kit to get started with. I was given a unwanted goldfish, and it was not well taken care of! Since my tank is square and the tank i was given is rounded at the top, I switched my original aerator filter with the nano filter. I love the way it cleans the water so good. It has virtually no set up, uses little electricity, it has a water flow set up, and it has a shiny look. YOU SHOULD BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Great for 2.5 gallon
Date: May 2, 2008
"Use this with my 2.5 gallon minibow. Stable little filter, quiet with adjustable current and betta has no problem with it - I only put a little silk plant near the intake and he has fun swimming around all over the place. He seems to like a bit of current to swim through."

Love it!
Date: January 26, 2008
"Before buying this product, I looked everywhere for a small filter that would fit my 2 gallon tank. I was so happy when I found this one!
I agree with the other reviews -- the motor is almost silent, and it's a very powerful and efficient filtration system.
One thing I recommend: Add some small ceramic filter rings to encourage even more bacteria growth. When you insert the filter pads, there's some space between the black foam and the plastic wall. I filled up the space with the ceramic rings, and just rinse them every month when I do my major tank cleaning/filter pad replacement."

Great Filter, just modify for Bettas
Date: January 8, 2008
"Filter works great. I modified it for my Betta b/c the current was too strong in 2.5 gallon. I took the end of pair of nylons and put it over the end of the tube part with rubber band so fins don't get caught. Then on top where waterfall comes out, I took a piece of plastic from an aquarium divider (has small holes in it) and put under where water comes out. Put it under the filter to secure it. If you curl it up almost like a cup it works really well. Calms down the current a lot. You have to trim the plastic where the tube comes out. If you experiment it works well. I used two pieces to get a wider coverage. In a 5 gallon you might not have to control the current but should still do the nylons so fins don't get caught up in the tube. A little extra work but they are worth it! This filter worked well in my 5 gal. also (with 1 Betta). Cleared the water quickly when my other filter broke."

Have gone through 2 of these
Date: December 18, 2007
"Wow, with all these positive reviews, not sure where mine will stand.
I have purchased 2 of these for my 1 gallon nano.... Seemed to work really well, when it was working. Then, they both just stopped... I took the first one back, got an exchange after working for 2 weeks. The 2nd one stopped after 3 weeks. Not sure if I should buy another one of these or not.
