Great filter for small tank
Date: July 22, 2008
"This small filter is wonderful for low volume aquariums. Makes absolutley no noise if set up properly. Comes with regulator to control air flow (you will need to cut the tube that runs between the pump and the filter and insert the regulator there). If the bubbles make too much noise, simply lower the air flow. The pump itself will make noise if placed on or against something that will vibrate. If it makes noise, reposition the pump so that it is not touching anything it will vibrate against. I suggest that you still do a partial water change once a week, especially if you have a large number of fish in your small tank. Great filter, mine works wonders on my 4 gallon aquarium. If you need a filter for your small tank, I highly recomend this one.
This kit is perfect for the beginner fish-owner, or for someone who does not already have the tubing and pump. The best place to put this filter is on the back wall of the aquarium (you can always hide it by putting plants in front of it!), or on the bottom if you do not have any gravel. This filter does not work well as an undergravel unit, as the gravel makes the filter cartridge difficult to change."

Great set up for a new Betta tank
Date: June 16, 2008
"This is a great little starter kit that can be used for smaller sized aquariums. I tend to use these with my 2.5 gallon to 5 gallon Betta tanks, and the cartridge actually keeps the tank quite clean.Bubbles are not extreme,so Betta's are quite content. I've also used this in an aquatic frog tank."

Very Nice!
Date: March 8, 2008
"I was bringing my black moor goldfish home for spring break, but the tank was too big for travel. I got a 1 gallon bowl (I know, too small for him. It was only a week so it's not a big deal. He didn't mind it at all) and I needed something to filter and pump in air. I read the reviews for this and decided to try it out. I love it!! The hum doesn't bother me, but I am used to sleeping with background noise in my room. I highly recommend it!"

A Very Efficient Water Filter Kit!
Date: November 10, 2007
"I purchased the Small World Pump & Filter Kit a little while after I bought the Aquatic Gardens deluxe XL aquarium tote and I have to say, it really makes a difference. It's very easy to install and assemble, it hasn't harmed any of my fish (I have a male Betta and two male Lemon Tetras) and best of all, my fish even seem to get a kick out of the bubbles rippling off the surface of the water. I believe the price is pretty fair considering it needs replacing every 4-6 weeks depending on the aquarium size.
The only complaints I've been hearing from others is that the filtration system can be noisy at night if the aquarium is set in a bedroom. I don't think it's a big problem--it takes a little adjusting when you first put it in, but if you can't get used to it like I did, you can always just tighten the valve just enough to minimize the noise output.
You should definitely think about this for a decently priced, easy to use filtration system for your fish if you don't have one!"

Good on Small Tanks
Date: December 5, 2006
"This is a nice filter, if used properly. Extremely easy to assemble, this filter will be best in small tanks (10g MAX), such as fry tanks. It poses no risk to young fish, all it does is pump ait through a tube, dispacing water through the filter system. It holds a sponge that can easily support the bacteria nessecary for the nitrogen cycle. The sponge should get dirty in a few days, but that's good. That means there IS the good bacteria. Also, it's kind of difficult, but you can take apart the part with the sponge and clean the spnge out. All I suggest is ONE sqeeze under warm water, or else you'll have to cycle your tank all over again. Carefully put the sponge back in the cartridge, and put the top over it. Sometimes it stays on, sometimes it doesn't. If not, just tie it on with some thread. The only time you'll ever need to replace these cartidges is about twice a year, or if you get any serious diseases you'll want to start over.
Overall, this filter is very good for small tanks, like I said, but if your tank is bigger than 10 gallons, don't bother."
