I bought these when I adopted my shih-tzu at 7 months old. She had ZERO training and these turned it all around. The bells let her tell me that she needed to go out and it was easy to train her - just have to be persistent and patient. She still uses her bells today! Now we are training the new puppy to use them too!

This is a great trainer for the doggie to alert us that she needs to go outside.

I bought a large bell to train a 5 month old std poodle, who couldn't catch on to going outside. I had already tried crate training, taking him out 6 times a day after meals, etc. He loved the bell and played with it like a toy, but didn't put together with the door opening. I bought the Potty Time Chimes and watched the video, which was very helpful, except that my dog didn't want to touch the bells with his nose and when he did, they didn't make any noise. When I saw him touch the bells or stand in front of the door, I used his nose to make the bells ring, or I rang them myself, while encouraging him verbally to ring them. Then, one day, like magic, he got it and started ringing the bells loud and clear. As soon as he did, the "accidents" stopped and he hasn't had one since. It took about 3 weeks.
There was a problem. The ribbon is so thin that the buckle won't keep it shortened and the bells slip back down. As my dog grew, I finally had to hook it up with the snap at the top, so it stayed at nose height. It's hanging next to a slider, not a door knob.
The other is not a problem with the product. It's just that my dog now rings the bell whenever he wants me to come, even if he doesn't want to go out and/or the door is already open! Poodles!

I hung up the chimes on the door knob and when my puppy had to go potty I had her ring the bells and then we went out. The next time she had to go potty she went to the door and started ringing the chimes. I couldn't believe it-- I havent even watched the DVD yet- My husband didn't believe me and the next time she had to go potty she went to the door and rang the chimes and my husband was shocked. My husband asked me to buy another one the chimes so there are more bells and they will make a louder ring sound and hopefully we can hear the bells from the upstairs.
I would highly recommend this to anyone housebreaking a puppy.

The product was well worth what I paid and the DVD was very helpful. The only problem we've run into is her getting startled at the sound of the bells. Once we are passed that we feel she can learn to use it.
