Cats Hear it Too!

"Desperate times call for ignoring the reviews... DON'T.
I have a collie who was 'distracted' the first day and then it didn't phase her anymore. Her desire to bark was stronger.
The worst part is i may have just kept trying but the cats became very distrubed whenever it went off and would run out of the room. Apparantly it bothers them more!"

"I bougth this product because I live in an apartment building and my 1 1/2 year old lab started barking when anyone opened or closed the front door, walked up or down the stairs or came anywhere near the door to the apartment. I already have a bark collar, but I don't feel comfortable leaving it on him when I'm not home incase it malfunctions. I use the collar in the car for extended rides, but for house use it's not as effective. I bought this to help when I wasn't home to cut down on his barking, so far it's been 3 days. The first day he would bark a few times, then stop...bark a few times then stop, each time barking less. Now that I'm home from work he barks maybe once when someone opens the door and then he stops. The buzz only goes off for extended barking fits so it doesn't completely stop him from barking, which I like! I don't want him to forever stop barking.
CONS: No on/off switch. Also, fairly expensive for what it does, BUT it solved my apartment/neighbor issue so I am happy with the purchase."

"We bought this product because our two Australian Shepherds get a little bark happy. They bark when someone rings the doorbell, when they see a car pull up(even if it's our neighbors,) when they see strangers... etc... Although at first the noise made them stop in their tracks it definitely did not meet our needs or expectations. It seemed to affect our older 3 1/2 year old Aussie more than our 1 year old. It also went off constantly anytime my husband raised his voice to either talk over the TV or was in another room trying to have a conversation. Maybe I am niave to think that it should be able to differenciate between a human speaking loudly and a dog barking continually but it seems like a simple design flaw. The product also does not let out a correction tone when they do their "excited bark" which occurs when a friend comes over. Even now, the garbage collectors came past, they barked.... no tone.... So all in all, this product did not affect our dogs and I would not recommend it."

"I purchased two of these PetSafe bark control systems...big mistake! Neither fazed my Pomeranian. She couldn't hear the ultrasonic sound over her barking. :("

"I have two small dogs (Maltese and Yorkie). It works awesome on the Maltese. As soon as she hears it she runs to the other room and hides. She is also scared of the vacuum, bikes, strollers etc.. The Yorkie thinks it is a game. He actually likes it and barks up at it, wags his tail and runs in circles. He is not afraid of the vacuum, bikes, stollers etc.. So I think it will work if you have a timid dog like my maltese. The microphone does not work. (Maybe because they are small dogs) so I have to actually get up and hit the manual button for it to work. I don't really mind using the manual button because then I decide when they get punished and I also tell them quiet at the same time so they can associate it with a word. At least I have one dog on the way to being trained but on to the next idea for the Yorkie! Good Luck & its worth a try!"

"I wanted this product to work but unfortunately it doesn't affect my dogs at all. I own two Bassett Hounds and a Chow. The Chow finally stopped barking just from watching me yelling at the Bassetts to "shut up"."

"I purchased this about a week ago because I have 3 Poms. The two little one(4 and 7 lbs) love to bark when outside. We had tried bark collars in the past, but those did not work and I felt bad that I may be hurting them. So I bought this, and it does not work. It has never stopped them from barking on its own. I always had to push the button on top. But that only worked for the first day. Now it does not work at all, no matter how long I hold down the button. I will be taking this back today, and hopefully will be able to find something that does what it says it will do."

"I bought this to keep my two dogs from barking when someone knocks on the door, it did not affect them what-so-ever. I do not suggest that anyone buy this, it is a waste of money, and it constantly went through batteries."

"It works for about 5 minutes. This was a complete waste of money. You have to take it and hold it near the dog and manually push the button, because it does not work on it's own. After a short time, even doing it manually, you have to push the button about 4 or 5 times before the dog pays any attention to it."

"Worked for the very first day. I was impressed. Now my German Shepherd isn't even effected by it now. Was told I can return it, if it didnt work. On my way back to Petco now to exchange, or even " Upgrade " to something that does work.

"I bought this product yesterday. I have a Beagle who barks every morning at 5am. I put the PetSafe right next to the crate (about 2 feet away). The Beagle started barking this morning...and kept on barking. I think this product may work for a limited number of dog breeds with a certain bark tone. The product does work when you press the button to manually activate it. The dog stops what he's doing and starts looking around. Too bad it doesn't work the way it's supposed to."

"Well, we just purchased the item, for Mickie and Ava our Maltese, but so far is doing it's job. I didn't know at first the button on top was to push for "extra" sound when the dog barked too much so I was pushing it, wondered why Mickie ran upstairs! Ava doesn't seem to mind as much, but it does allow them to bark a time or two, then it must go "off" because they shut up!
Mickie has already learned the machine is "bad news" if he sees me pick it up he heads for th hills!
Will let you know if it continutes to do it's job!"
