I bought the 24 watt filter. Got this on sale, 20% off and free shipping so that was a great deal. It arrived in three days. It is kind of an awkward thing. I have a 46 gallon bow front tank, so the larger filter was kind of bulky, but so far it works great. I have Mopani wood in my tank that turned the water a light tea color, and this filter has helped clean it up a bit.

I highly recommend the Green Killing Machine. The results in my aquarium were seen in 24 hours with the water becoming crystal clear and staying that way.
I feel like the fish sense the difference too....since now they appear to be much more active and alive.
No complaints here!

LOVE: It works great. You will see clearer water within a week and it is super easy to install.
HATE: No matter how much you clean this thing, it only lasts 4-6 months. They do work great, so I have bought two of them. But, you cannot clean inside where the light is, so even if you clean the blue filter regularly you will eventually get buildup inside by the light that cannot be cleaned.

I will be looking into a more permanent solution.
As long as consider this a temporary measure, this will work great. It is not, however, a long term solution.

My 45 gal tank was getting hazy and the water won't clear up. I tried all kind of clear water treatment but didn't get the job done right. So I watched some youtube videos on how to clear up cloudy water and came across Green Killing Machine Internal UV Sterilizer with Power Head. I was hesitant but decided to give it a try. Ordered online from Petco. Got it within 5 or 6 days. It was very easy to put it together within 20 minutes, I had it all setup. The first 24 hours after operation, my water got cleared up. I have it run for about a week now and my water stay clear. No more hazy water. I RECOMMEND this product. I'm very happy with this product.

Great for my 10 gallon tank or a 20 gallon tank. Small enough that in the 10 gallon it does not loose space for the fish.

I unpacked it, rinsed it, installed it, and plugged it in; and the LED operation light did not come on, indicating that the UV bulb was not operating.
Hoping to get a replacement quickly from PetCo.

I had an aquarium for a month, then it had a nitrate and ammonia bloom. So I picked up this and by the forth day the water was crystal clear.

Got this to try to help fight algae in my planted 30 gallon. It says it doesn't help algae on glass, but I found that if you do a thorough scrubbing of your glass with this bad boy in the tank it really helps slow the growth rate on the glass. So far it works as advertised and was very easy to set up and install in the tank. CONS: has a huge ac/dc adapter type plug (think original nintendo plug, you know the one) and a 'transformer' that needs to be attached to the outside of the tank. Wish I had known about these before purchase, but luckily I had enough room on my power strip.

Had a significant challenge with algae in my 65 gal tank. The Green Killing Machine UV sterilizer cleared it up in in 3 days, the tank has never looked better, very happy with it.

Purchased the Deep Green Killing machine sterilizer during christmas time.
My 30 gallon tank had green water. I keep goldfish (oranda) and there pretty large now.
I tried changing water, but it still manages to turn green.
So I tried the Deep Green Killing machine and left it on for the weekend. It cleared up the water nicely.
*Note: Needs time to work.

i bought the uv sterilizer for my 100 gallon tank,i got discus so the water has to be very clean if u know discus,and its the best,my water its crystal clear with in 24 hours of setting up,its kind of big but its hidden behind some plants,this product its great, worth the money,

This product is absolutely exceptional! My aquarium had such hazy/green water that you could not see 2 inches into the tank! Believe me, it was the worst possible scenario of Green water.
I tried doing a blackout of my 75 gallon tank, which involved covering it up with around 10 black garbage bags to prevent any light from entering the tank, thus killing the algae. Although, it does not always work, and my case was especially stubborn. After 4 days in the pitch black, the water had cleared a bit, but went back to its old self in less than 5 days. If we had kept the tank darker any longer, our other plants would have died, and the fish would not be able to be fed, as feeding is prohibited during the blackout.
After a while, I gave up and saw this, I ordered the 100 gallon version, and compared to other UV sterilizers, this one was a bargain!! The shipping was really fast as it came within 2 days of ordering.
I got the package, everything was in perfect condition, hooked it up, and let it run.
Day 0: Absolutely Green, cant see anything except about 1/2 in from glass
Day 1: Clearer. no distinct "green water" but still foggy and hard to see things.
Day 2: A lot clearer, can see about half way through tank
Day 3: Can see everything in tank if effort is given, but still hard. ALthough, progress is fast
Day 4: (WATER CHANGE) A lot clearer and can see nearly everything in tank with ease
Day 5: A bit hazy, but is very good
Day 8: WATER IS CRYSTAL CLEAR!! Can see everything effortlessly, looks absolutely beautiful. Fish are happy to see eachother again, and water is super clear, even better thank BEFORE THE OUTBREAK.
OVERALL: This product does its job well and quickly! It is cheap and an easy and "permanent fix" If you ever have an outbreak again, all you have to do is turn it on again. I would reccomend this to anyone and everyone who has green water.
IF YOU HAVE GREEN WATER, BUY THIS ITEM!! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! :D
Also, this will kill any pathogens, parasites, fungus, and other deadly things in the water, so It also increases the health of your fish. My fish were regularly getting sick before, but after this, they are great!
Along with that, this wont hurt your Beneficial Bacteria population either, as those are living on your rocks wood, and like 85% in the gravel, and rest on decos.

After watching video's online about the benefits of having a UV Sterilizer I decided to purchase two of these, one for my 30 gal. and one for my 55 gal. Even though this is for 50 gal or less I have two filters on the 55 gal. so I keep those running along with this. My 30 gal. tank has an oscar and a catfish in it and the catfish had some kind of illness going on (very large white spots/scars growing) which we treated with different chemicals over the prior weeks up to purchasing this with no success. One of the video's we found showed that one of the UV sterilizer's benefits is killing disease in the fish and preventing it from spreading to other fish, needless to say my catfish is almost better, it's only been a week or so since we put them in the tank. This product is easy to install, assemble, the directions are simple to follow, the only negative that I can predict is that the bulb replacement is going a bit expensive (as I think it will be with any UV purchase you make) I did not compare replacement parts with other options prior to purchasing b/c this was the most affordable option I found online when I decided to buy.

I did a lot of research on this product before buying it. I got it on sale from the petco website for only 39.99 and (with buying a heater as well) free shipping. I couldn't be happier with this deal. Not only did I get it 10 dollars cheaper than the stores, but it actually WORKS! My water was so green you couldn't see through the other side (20 gallon long temporary turtle tank, btw.) Within a week it is crystal clear. I love this thing. Totally worth the money!!

I've had a massive algae problem in my tank for a long time. My water was very green. I put this in the tank and within 1 day, the water turned very clear. My only issue with it is, I have a 10 gallon tank and it is very big. I don't think this was made for a 10 gallon tank. I had to install it sideways, and it takes up a lot of the tank. Outside of that, the problem cleared up almost immediately. I finally enjoy looking at my fish again.

I have a 40 gallon turtle tank near a window and the water used to turn bright green on a weekly basis. Changing the water every week was hard work until a salesperson mentioned getting a UV sterilizer.
I bought a 9w (since the tank is only half full of water). It keeps the water clear of algae and now I only have to change the water every couple of weeks because the two turtles create a lot of waste.
I just changed the bulb on it recently because I noticed the water turning bright green again. The original bulb probably lasted at least 5 years, with the unit on all the time.
Petco, please stock the replacement bulbs so I don't have to get it elsewhere!

pros works greats also gives micro bubbles( in bursts) easy to assemble cons lots of wires some shorter than others makes hard to find a good location for box that sits outside tank cause suction cups dont hold to tank my tank is very clear now so it's worth dealing with the wires (green machine is behind tall statue)

When this thing worked, it worked great. Problem is that it does not last long. Was on a timer, 4 hours a day and in 4 months the bulb has burned out! A replacement unit is almost 35.00 and needless to say i will not be replacing the bulb. the whole thing is going in the trash. Such a waste of resources and money! In 2012, we can build better more reliable products!
