This is the answer to the splashes and dribbles that happened from the mat with the indents. It's just enough bigger to do the job without being too big.

I'll be honest, we bought this because it was less expensive than the others and after all the $$ we were sending on our new puppy we thought this is somewhere we could save a few $$. But it was a complete waste of our money! We would have returned it after a few days, except puppy peed on it! The problem was it wouldn't stay flat. We put 50 pounds of weight on it over night hoping to flatten it out, but it had a constant curve to it. It made the water dish constantly spill when puppy was drinking (water dishes did have the rubber underneath). and when the water spilled, because of the curve, the lip around the mat didn't help. We had water everywhere a number of times just in the first few days! We finally went out and spent a few more dollars and finally have a mat that we like (and doesn't create a huge mess!)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I had a placemat under my dogs dishes that obviously wasn't water proof. It left a black mark on my hardwood floor....this plastic one is perfect!! Even if the water spills I know my floors are safe.
I would recommend this to a friend!
