"I used this product a total of five times. I came home yesterday to find my 16 lb dachshund had torn the front flap open. The CS rep at Petmate informed me that my dog was to blame instead of the carrier. No tencillary strength whatsoever. I guess it would be good for a pet that weighs less than 5 lbs and has been declawed and heavily sedated. Save your cash and buy a product you would trust for your best friend."

"I bought this crate on the recommendation of our dog trainer. My dog is crate trained, and she took quickly to this new crate when camping or visiting family or friends. It nice because most soft sided crates have the fabric stretched so tight that if the dog leans against it the fabric will split at the seams, this one is more loose. I've read some of these other reviews, and just keep in mind that this crate is really designed for dogs that are crate trained, and have no stress related negative behavior. I recommed supervising your dog the first time you try this crate, before leaving them alone in it."

Don't waste your money

"I would not purchase a tent style crate again, especially this brand. Both of my crate trained dogs learned how to break out within a few days. We bought these to travel in our motorhome with since they are so easily collapsible and lightweight. We came back one morning to see that they had broken out and damaged the carpet in the brand new motorhome. They discovered that they could push on the front of the crate and split apart the zipper.
We have not been able to replace them yet with a wire crate, and in the meantime the male chewed a hole in the corner of the crate and pushed through the front, so it's now destroyed. This is the same dog that we could leave in his crate at home with the door unlatched (inadvertantly) and come home to find him sound asleep, still in his crate.
I had read reviews before I purchased this and did have concerns about them breaking out, but I decided to take a chance since they are already crate trained. Don't make the same mistake!"

"I purchased the small portable pet home for my 14 pound shih tzu. She just loves it and it works really well for traveling. It is very light weight to carry and folds into a nice, flat, travel case. It sets up and folds down very easily. There are no difficult to use metal poles. It just zips and unzips on both ends. The windows provide good ventilation. I would definately recommend this for crate trained dogs."

"I bought this for my Cocker Spaniel puppy. Right away he figured out how to push the zipper apart and escape! So I tried putting that end up against a wall. So then he put a hole in the mesh door to escape. It's not worth the money if you have a smart puppy! Other than that I really liked the lightweight portability of the product!"

"I purchased the petmate portable pet home for my yellow lab Rusty. He loves it and so do I! It is a great product. It is extremely easy to put up, all you have to do is zip two zippers and it easily collapses into the perfect fit for its carry case. And set up is just as easy! I was amazed at how durable the product is as well. I know Rusty is greatful too because the ease of this product allows us to bring Rusty's home on every trip!!! I recommend this to any pet owner!!!"

Poor Quality Zipper

"I like how light weight the kennel is but the zipper does not hold up. I have the medium size kennel and my puppy does not chew but she has figured out that she can push hard enough on the back wall or door and the zipper will split open... released! Before she figured out how to get out, I didn't like that I had to put it in the bag to easily transport. It should have some type of velcro strap or something when you fold it up that it will carry easily without a bag, it has a handle but only for lifting after set up. Not worth the $79, at least if you have a smart dog it isn't."

"I bought this kennel for our Cavalier King Charles because of it's seemingly durable and attractive appearance, but within 4 days my dog has torn it apart! The front door is entirely chewed apart and needless to say, it no longer functions as a kennel."

"I have the small Portable Pet Home for my 4 lb Yorkie. She loves it. It's lightweight, durable and easy to grab and put in the car. All I have to do is tell her to get in it and she runs into it. I believe she feels cozy & safe in it. It would be nice to have a little pocket for storage, but overall it's a great carrier."

Smart pets get out

"I was very excited about this product, but I was unprepared for a smart dog. My dog unzipped the front panel. Then I put a clip on that zipper and he unzipped the back - I put a clip on that and he unzipped the door. I put a clip on that and he figured out how to open the clip and unzipped the door. I even safety pinned it and he figured out how to open the safety pin. Just goes to show - if they want to get out - they will get out and don't have to tear up a thing."

Great for dog recovering from surgery!

"I bought a large size one for my dachshund to use while recovering from back surgery. I bought the larger size because he is long and I didn't want him to hurt himself turning around. He had never been in a crate before and had to spend 6 weeks in this one. He is a very active dog but did quite well. My dachshund give the crate 5 paws up! He still uses it as a sleep bed. It is comfortable, sturdy, nice looking, portable, and private. The sides have "window" screens that fold up so he can look out. He can actually look out and see very well (it looks like it might be dark or cave like)...I know this because I had to check it out for my pup. I would say any well-behaved, non-nerotic dog would do well in this crate."

"I put my chihuahua in one of these kennels, and she began scratching. I quickly stopped her, but felt sure that after spending $50 for this kennel (I had a medium size one) they surely used some sort of reinforced screening. THEY DIDN'T. After I left the room, my dog must've began digging at the screen again, and was wondering around my house in under an hour. I bought this to try to keep her from getting up at night, but instead, it turned out to be the fastest waste of $50 since I last went into a casino."

"I have a Yorkie named Kitzie and she is my baby so when I decided that she needed a crate or something to put her in, I brought her with me to Petco so she could pick out her carrier. When she saw this one she dragged me over to it and sat next to it and looked up at me with these eyes that said i want this one. So i got it for her and now when she gets in trouble she goes and sits in there and she doesnt whine! I would reccomend this to anyone and everyone! This is a great carrier!"
