"This is the second PetMate Barnhome I've bought and I continue to be very pleased. I've had the first outdoors for a couple of years for one of our feral cats and it's held up quite well. I power washed the outside in the spring and it cleaned up nicely."

He likes to spend time outdoors each day and we needed a good outdoor home for him. I searched the net for prices on this particular house and the price i paid for it from Petco can't be beat. I was lucky to get it on sale and in addition...free shipping! It's a very large dog house and insulated...which was a must for us in what we were looking for. Price and quality can't be beat!

OK, but dog doesn't like it

"I have a large dog, and he'll go inside but then comes right out, and I think that even though it's the largest available, he can't stretch out in it. There's a lip on the front door, it's not flat. I guess they put it there so water wouldn't flow into the house, but all he can do is curl up in the house, and so far he hasn't. He can't stretch out in it because that lip is a couple inches above the floor so he can't put his paws or any of his body out of the door.
I'm gonna keep it anyway, hopefully when the snow starts falling and it gets colder, he'll try this more, but right now he doesn't. He's an inside dog, but I keep him on a run outside during the daytime, so the house is near this."

"I purchased the medium size for my 12lb westie and 3lb papillion to share. I was originally afraid when I ordered online that it would be too small. It is perfect for my two furry friends. The dogs took too it like it was favorite corner of the house. We put outside for those times they want to be outside, or for those times we leave them out while we are away from the home for a few hours. They love it and we love that they love it. We also purchased the door ...at first it kept falling but w/ some long nose pliers and some krimping of the S hooks we were good to go. It helps keep the wind and rain out."

"I was very happy with this house until it rained & I found a mystery puddle in the back of the house. Initially I thought it was the air vent, but it turns out, somewhat inexplicably, to be the midline seam.
Thanks for your smart & practical solution. I was drawing out engineering plans to create a canopy over the sides of the house but weatherstrip tape sounds SO much easier!"

Important note on dimensions

"The houses are very sturdy. They are heavy, which means they won't be easily blown (or dragged!) around. And the clips are great, it doesn't take the dogs long to get the tops off their houses!
On the dimensions, be aware that the ones shown are exterior dimensions. The medium houses are 22x25 interior - that's a minor difference on the width but a huge difference on the length! Our 60lb "test dog" could sit comfortably, but can only lie down if curled up. No stretching out in this house!
A great buy for a house that will see some tough use, but if in doubt, up size!"

"I read the reviews. First, I'm not sure what alot of you expect from a $70 doghouse. If you're looking for something a little more elegant, $70 isn't gonna do it. Regarding all of those that experienced leaks, yes, so did I. However, it was an easy fix for about $2. First, you simply go to a hardware store and buy a roll of 3/4" x 1/8" thick foam weatherstrip tape. Take off the top half of the house and turn it over. Install the foam tape in the slot that mates onto the bottom half. Put the top back on and snap it into place. No more leaks. Not so hard, huh? Mine has now seen torrential rains, and along with the clear plastic "door", it's nice and dry inside. Now, if my aussie-lab mix will stay in during a storm, instead of biting raindrops...."

"I PURCHASED THIS ITEM BEFORE I GOT A DOG. I KNEW I WAS GOING TO GET A MEDIUM TO LARGE DOG AND WANTED THEM TO HAVE A LOT OF ROOM, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE A LOT OF MONEY. WHEN I SAW THIS ONE ON LINE, AND IT WAS ON SALE, I WAS SOLD. JUST ON SATURDAY 4-5-08, I WENT TO THE LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY AND ADOPTED A GERMAN SHEPARD PUPPY. My Kids Love Their Houses
