Good, but don't trust Petco description.

Good product. Check out caribsea's site as description of product incorrect on petco. Much smaller stone than petco says. But that's pretty common, so I always check out the actual manufacturer's website.

Kon Tiki Gravel

Let me start out by saying, got the best price from Petco on a sale promotion. However The Tiki gravel was not what I was expecting. The picture shows a bigger gravel with pebbles mixed in it. I ordered 80 lbs. with not one rock bigger than about 3-4 mm. I went to my local pet store and bought a bag of bigger gravel and mixed it in with the Tiki. Best advice don't go by the picture or description, look at the product, be sure that's what you want then find the best price.

I used this gravel before in a 12g tank setup and had wonderful fully cycled water ready for fish. This time I used for a 36g tank and did not get the same results. I did have to add a number of fish from other tanks, so that may have been an issue loading the tank with ammonia ("stress" level); although, I did not feed that evening and kept the lighting low to let them relax. I added additional Prime water conditioner and ammonia remover and added zeolite ammonia remover to the media in the filter which usually helps. By morning the ammonia level was a tad bit better. I also have a different filter system with the 36g (power filter) compared to Biowheel with the 12g.
The gravel is fine (less course than most at the stores). It is easy to clean (siphon out detritus).
