You'll want to spray it on your hand to apply to muzzles and around eyes, but the pump spray, unlike aerosol, is direct and easy to use on the rest of the dog. You'll need to use it daily, but it seems to do a good job of keeping the biting insects away from my two, newly shaven Newfoundlands. The odor isn't unpleasant so you won't mind using it. I've even used it myself. It isn't harmful to cats and mine doesn't seem to mind if I use a pump spray.
