If you have a dog that pulls while you walk them, I highly recommend getting a gentle leader! I have 2 labs that I was using choke collars on before with not much affect. I was worried every time we would pass a dog that they would pull me down on the ice, but the gentle leader literally has taken my stressful walks thru ice and snow and made me into a confident dog walker with well-behaved big dogs. (They may not like it at first, but they get used to it.)

I've heard about this collar before and decided to try it on my dog. He used to pull me around a lot when we're outside, but with this head collar I'M now able to lead HIM. I would DEFINITELY recommend looking at the DVD that comes with the collar FIRST. It may seem straight forward in how to put the collar on when you first see it, but the DVD definitely corrected me in how to adjust and put the collor on my dog and has some good tips. As well as tips for fearful dogs, how to train with the gentle leader on, how to deal with a dog adjusting to the gentle leader, etc. It's a good product in my book.

I guess I wasn't surprised when it worked because I have had horses and so the whole halter thing "where the nose goes the body must follow" it just made sense but I thought that he would continue to pull me just at first but no he didn't. As soon as I was done shaping the introduction to the head halter I gave him a chance to wear it in the house for ten mins and he threw a little fit but as soon as he realized its not coming off and he can still play ball he was okay. We are the envy of the whole neighborhood now, an old couple with a huge dog asked me how I got my dog to walk so well! So now he has only wore it three times and now he is done with his training and he can walk normally with just his collar hallelujah. Remember dogs have an opposition reflex so the normal collar will pull back at his throat and he will continue to pull so the head leader pulls at the back of their head which will make them stop pulling. Why didn't anyone come up with this sooner? Millions of people simply don't walk their dogs anymore Bc they're tired of them pulling them down the street. Thank you sir whoever you are who invented this :)

With a 125-lb. Golden Retriever literally rubbing all the hair off his neck from dragging me all over the neighborhood with an ineffective choke chain, we halfheartedly gave this a try. IT IS MAGIC. From the first moment we stepped outside, he heeled like a perfectly trained dog. I can't say enough good things about it. The only downside is that the fitting takes a little time-- and you really have to watch the DVD to make sure it's right. EXCELLENT product!!!

I have trained dogs and horses for many years and for my dogs I was a avid fan of the choke chain. I never ever had a problem training a dog to heal on and off leash until I got a rescued 5 year old Weimaraner. I tried for over three months to get him to walk on a slack leash. I don't believe in letting a dog choke himself by constant pulling. Normally a voice que short tap works just fine because eventually all you need is the voice que. In frustration, decided to use the Gentle Lead as a last resort. The reason was that with a horse if you control the head the rest will follow. So the first thing I did was put the DVD aside and figured out how to put it on my dog because I am just sooo smart. It worked OK he was easier to control but the nose band would go sideways thus messing with his mouth and eyes. On a whim I decided to watch the DVD and discovered that I wasn’t smart at all and didn't put it on correctly. Once I did that the dog was almost perfect and after a week of leash training there is no pulling at all and he responds great with voice ques. Never forget some/most dogs think pulling is a game unless they are taught differently. Yes, the collar is thin but it doesn't have to be more than that because there is no problem with pulling once they get they understand what is expected of them and after all it is the owner’s responsibility to teach them. I will never use a choke chain again. Control the head and the rest will follow.

We would have prefered the harness. Our dogs are not adjusting as quickly as the DVD shows. I do love that it had a DVD included for proper fitting and how to use it effectively. I have adjusted it several times and still have not found that they are comfortable with it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This product is amazing! I have 3 Basset Hounds, and anyone that has owned Bassets knows how stubborn they can be. One of my bassets pulls really hard on leash, and is very reactive to other dogs when on leash. I was so frusterated I was either going to stop walking them, or hire a trainer that I really couldnt afford. As soon as I got this harness, from the very first walk, he didnt pull at all. When we see other dogs and he tries to react I pull his head towards me and give him lots of treats. So far it is working great. I can walk all three 60 pound dogs and not have them pulling me all over the place. I would recommend this to anyone.

I have a 5 month old boxer/pitbull mix louis who is beyond hyper. I also have a 2 year old german s./pitbull Big who has no problems walking what so ever. When I would take the two of them out Louis would pull and jump on Big it had gotten so bad I couldnt take Louis on walks any longer. I bought the Gentle Leader and I couldnt be happier. Louis was very hesitant at first. I let him wear it on his way home from petco and then once we got home we went on our first walk. I have never made it farther than a few houses down the street with him without being taken down but that first walk with the gentle leash we completed an full walk without any issues. BUY BUY BUY!!!

at first, i was leery of the plastic closure as my dog has broken collars with those before. but after using the product, i no longer feel it will be an issue. it completely stopped my dog's incessant pulling. i can tell she doesnt find it particularly comfortable, but it in no way hurts her the way her choke collar must. not to mention she can breath much better and i dont have to stop and readjust it every few minutes. i simply hook it to her regular collar as a "just in case," and we both enjoy our walks much more now!

My mom had adopted a Lab Mix from the local shelter. And when we took her for her first walk, she was fine. Once she gained the confidence to being walked outside, she began to pull. It was to the point where I could not walk her hardly anymore. So I ended up stop walking her completely. My mom's friend has a Great Dane puppy and she said it works wonders on her dog. So I got one for Daffy, and waited for it to arrive. I had read the instructions and proceeded to put it on Daffy. She didn't really care for it being on her face. I let her walk around the house with it on. Daffy didn't seem to mind it being on her face. So I took her for a walk and it worked. When she first went out the door she didn't drag me. Then entire time that I was walking her she didn't even drag me. Daffy saw a squirrel and she stopped, I immediately got her attention and continued our walk. I'm going to get my other dog one also. I would recommend this product to anyone.

I have a 75lb, 3 year old, rescued German Shepherd who, despite all my Alphaness in the house pulled on the lead. He's a great listener, sits, up, down, come, stay etc, but when it comes to a walk it's all about his wants. I do all the right things, eat first, never let him in the bedroom, consistency, do not let him through doors first etc. But he was a backyard dog and never got a proper walking. For the walk- the Gentle Leader is great. He tries to pull but I pull away from his desired interest and he follows. I followed the DVD directions that comes with the packet to the " T" He has never gotten it off, or broken away from it or himself. Please though, take some time to warm your dog up to it. Mine was given praise and treats, off and on with the leader around his nose and back on again with treats. During the walk he still gets treats when asked to heel and heels. The more comfortable he became with the Gentle Leader; I had less of tug on the leash.
!Also! My dog has fear aggression. On the Gentle Leader I can turn his head around to avoid that "I going to get you" stare that he gets when a dog walks past. I just keep my cool, walk on by and when he lunges I just walk along and he does too. He can't face the other dog when his face is away from it! You'll love this product. Just read the directions carefully and by consistent and patient. You are going to love it!

I have a 5 month old large lab puppy who is only going to get bigger. I was searching for a way for us to walk together and enjoy it. (he is a strong puller and a "nose to the ground" "little" fella). After fitting the Gentle Leader collar properly and learning how to use the leash and bringing lots of treats, Louie and I are doing much better. He will still struggle somewhat but not near as bad and I no longer have to apply ice packs to my shoulder sockets!! I would advise watching the DVD that comes with it, it does have helpful information.

These gentle leaders have been a lifesaver in our household of two labs!! This is the only brand and style that keeps our dogs from pulling our arms out of socket. I can't say enough about these wonderful gentle leaders.

This is, by far, the best collar I've ever used for walking my dogs. If you follow the instructions and put this collar on properly, you will never buy another brand! I have a notoriously stubborn Siberian Husky who loves to pull. (I'm assuming this is his sled dog mentality coming through ;) I can't run with him due to an old knee injury so we used to go through a routine of 'push me, pull you' at walk time. No more! Although both of my dogs resisted this collar in the very beginning, it was the most marvelous thing when they got used to it. It absolutely prevents pulling as the leash pressure point is under the dog's chin instead of at the neck where they have so much strength. They hate for their head to be pulled down by the leash so they just don't pull anymore! Dogs heel = me happy! Yes, there is something to be said for training your dogs to not pull in the first place, but my husky is a Katrina victim we got when he was already 2yrs old and my other dog was 'trained' by my daughter. She's now in college so I am keeping that dog. She didn't train her to heel but this collar did the job in 10 min flat! I'M ECSTATIC! Thank you Gentle Leader!!! :)

When I first tried this, I didn't think it would work. Our training class instructer recomended it and the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Its kind of like horses, we could never control them with a regular collar or harness so we use a sort of headcollar. This product has worked wonders on my dog. Whenever we put it on her she doesn't even try to pull because she knows she can't. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has a dog that pulls.

This product has improved my walks dramatically. My dog is very reactive when he sees other dogs or hears louds noises. Luckily, I was working with a trainer when I first started to use the head collar because she helped me with the fit and encouraged me to stick with it. My dog rebelled for a week and a half, but finally got used to the Gentle Leader. Its all about the fit- if its on right he won't be able to get out of it and won't be uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I'm replacing it after only 1 year due to fraying.

The basic idea of this product is good, when your dog pulls it turns its head, but if he backs up it slips off his muzzle, remember we are buying this because our dog is psyco on a leash, I looped the leash around his regular collar then hooked it on the harness. There is still enough to pull him if needed, but it takes the weight of the leash clasp off the ring on the harness. I have a 110 lb Great Pyreneese, Bernease Mountain Dog PUPPY, almost 1yr old. Berners breed history is to pull milk carts for farmers, they can pull 10 times their body weight, so that means mine can pull 5 ??? or me. no problem. It took me time to figure out how to put the thing on, I had it back in the box 1/2 hour after I got home, but be patient, it works!!!! It will take the dog acouple of times to get used to it, just make sure it is right under his eyes so they can open their mouth properly. I took my dog to the park & this is the 1st time my arm or back wasn't sore when I finnished
