vita sand Date: August 15, 2008
"The coloring in the vita sand has pigmented my dragon orange and has not been able to come off of him for almost a month and a half. I would not recommend this product to anyone I would stay with the uncolored sand either repti sand or something compairable to it. Thanks hope this helps someone."

I have no complaints Date: May 26, 2008
"I have 2 leopard geckos in the orange vita-sand. When they were first put into it they licked the sand and that was it. I feel better knowing they won't end up compacted with this product it makes it better. They don't have a orange color to their bellies as some have said. However my beardie is in white vita sand and his belly did turn white white from it. Which I thought was weird. But thats just the stuff in the sand and it is fine for them."

Best Leopard Geco substrate ever! Date: May 4, 2008
"My 10 year old son has had his Leopard Gecko for 7 years now and normally we used an orange colored pebbly sand for the substrate. This time when we needed to replace it we decided to see what other substrates Petco carried that were suitable for a Leopard Gecko. We read the descriptions on the different bags and types of substrates and decided on the Zoo Med Vita Sand because it had vitamins in it and Puppysnake often gets a mouthful when going after crickets. We bought a 10lb bag of it and after cleaning out the tank, washing the water bowl and heat rock etc I put the Vita Sand in tank and replaced all the items normally in there. We then fed Puppysnake 2 dozen large crickets and as usual he got a mouthful of sand. After about 1 our we went to check on him and noticed he was more energetic and actually moving around instead of just laying there like a statue. Its been about a month now with using the Zoo Med Vita Sand and Puppysnake is still a very active Gecko which thrills us. We LOVE the Zoo Med Vita Sand and from now on will ONLY buy this when he needs his sand replaced!"

Not the greatest... Date: May 1, 2008
"This substrate is not the greatest for any reptiles. It can start to smell if it sits under the lamp for too long. I'm not sure how dangerous it is, but it seems pretty safe. It is very unnatural looking in all the strange colors, but you might want to try it still. It's up to you."

This sand ir ROCKING Date: March 29, 2008
"Because its made form calcium its fine for my leo to digest! Although it turns my leos feet and tail orange (outback sand), it EASYLY comes off. My leo is tamed and dosen't mind being picked up, a little warm water, and BAM it comes off. I would recomend this sand to EVERYONE!"

Very good but slightly dusty Date: February 3, 2008
"This is a very good product seeing as it comes with a lot of sand which has very fine granules, which is essential for good health, plus there is a lot of sand for my hermie to dig and burrow. My only complaint is that it was very dusty when it first came out of the bag."

No Problems So Far Date: September 24, 2007
"I bought this sand in white and orange and mixed it intothe tank to gat a nice mix color. I didnt have any problem with dust or dying problems. When i lay the sand down i do it as close to the bottom as i can and not from the top of the tank (which would cause dust). It is easy to clean. It hasnt died my bearded dragon any colors yet."

Too much dust Date: November 29, 2006
"Definitely would not recommend this product because of the dust. I found that when pouring it in the whole terrarium was filled with dust and I ended up breathing it in. Even during regular cleanings it threw dust in the air and I can't imagine my lizard didn't breathe it in. I have a Mali Uromastyx [black w/bright yellow] and he was white with dust the entire time I used this sand. He sleeps with a portion of his head under the sand so his head would be white. I couldn't even tell if he was healthy because his color was gone. I only left this in for a month or so and switched back to the Zoo Med Repti Sand. He is much happier, digs more, and looks healthier overall. I gave it three paws because I don't know if he could have benefited from the "Vita" since I didn't leave it in very long. He doesn't seem effected in a negative way by the Repti-Sand, like he did with the other things I've tried."

good & bad Date: October 13, 2006
"I have found that this sand is a very nice sand to use. But as stated before, it does dye your animal. I have 2 bearded dragons and I used this sand for almost a year. And now my one dragon is orange on her belly & beard. And it doesnt wash off no matter what. That is the only drawback.

Maybe the white color would work better..?"

This stuff is great! Date: September 11, 2006
"Zoo Med Vita-Sand is my favorite brand of sand. I use it for both of my leaopard gekos and it works GREAT. When i first got one of my lizards she got impacted from digesting some other brand of sand that claimed to be "calcium carbonate" (artificial sand reptiles can digest). After that i switched to Zoo Med Vita-Sand and neither of my geckos have had any prblems since. :)"

Not so great. Date: August 26, 2006
"I do love a high quality sand when I see one, but this stuff has a bad secret. It dyes your animal.
Yes, if you buy Orange you will get an orange lizard. if you buy Mauve you'll lizard will end up being a pinky-purple.
I really love this sand though, but even after bathing/scrubbing my reptiles the colour won't fully come off. So use wisely, and be very carefull.
Note: some reptile specie's scales are more likely to be dyed than others..."
