Fairly Easy Cleanup

"I like how wet places are easy to spot with this type of bedding, and with my guinea pig's tendency to go in one particular place of the cage, the daily freshenings are fairly simple. The weekly dumping isn't too difficult with a scooper. You might need to keep a broom or vacuum handy for the mess you (and your furry friend) will make scattering wood shavings around every now and then, but the benefits definitely outweigh the maintenance."

"I use this bedding for my 2 gerbils and it is great. I mix it in with timothy hay and soft sorbent bedding from kaytee also! this stuff smells so fresh and is just the best bedding you can ever buy"

"It is a great product. I use it because it is safe for all my animals.I am not afraid that any of my rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters or gerbils will be exposed to any oils that are in other beddings like red cedar or pine that can be harmful to their systems."

"I love this bedding. It helps with odors it's all natural and does not have harmful chemicals that can harm your pet. The wood is a little hard but my bun seems very happy lying in it. He also likes to chew it and it helps with their teeth. Very affordable for such a huge bag of this and it last me a long time which is awesome. I highly recommend this product"

"When you have 5 cages of small animals like I do, you need large amounts of bedding at an affordable price. Petco's Aspen bedding not only comes in huge bags, but the price is amazing (compared to beddings such as Carefresh). And unlike pine, Aspen does not contain any oils or phenols that could harm your animals respiratory tract. It also seems to mask odors."

"I like this bedding. My hamster seems to enjoy it. It's comfortable for them and they seem to enjoy using, only down side is the chunks are sort of big, and kind of hard, I like the Kaytee bedding better. Sorry!"

"For all you new pet owners out there, aspen bedding is great for you. Apsen is a safe low dust bedding that will not irritate your little animal's respitory system. I have been using aspen bedding for more than eight years and have not had a problem and probably never will. I have two ratties and all I can use with them is aspen, because they are very sensitive. I tried care fresh first, but it made them sneeze a lot. DO NOT trust anybody when they say that pine or cedar is okay. It can KILL your animal.
Also, do not use corn cob bedding, beacuse the animal can choke on it, it is not very absorbent, and it molds.
I would be carful with some aspens, sometimes it says just aspen but then you look on the back and it says contains other woods. You do not wnat those."

"Aspen is the best cost effective and healthy product to use for bedding for small pets. Pine and cedar are so dangerous and can actually seriously harm or kill your pets. Spend a little more and you will have a happy and healthy pet. We have been using this brand for the past year. It is great, it's not real dusty like the name brands. Good mixture of sizes of the wood chips, the other brands are so shredded up and fine. The piggies and hamster love chewing on the pieces too. We have 2 huge CC cages (7' X 4') and it takes 1/2 a bag each. Great price and free shipping, who could ask for more?"

"I've used pretty much every bedding for my guinea pig, and after switching around I bought 2 bags of this aspen bedding since it got such good reviews, plus it seemed like a great deal. WRONG. After opening this bag I noticed that these were very large wood chips and they didn't "expand" at all. It took me half of the bag just to fill one cage. Normally I only need 1/4 of a bag per cleaning, but this was only 1/2!! It didn't soak up any smells and in fact my room has never smelled more like animals than ever. I thought I was walking into a zoo whenever I walked in. This was sooo bad! My guinea pig didn't seem to complain about the large wood chunks or possible splinters, but I am never going to use this bedding again. The one and only good thing about this aspen bedding was that when I was removing the soiled bedding from the cage it clumped up well and was really easy just to swipe up. But one good deed doesn't nearly cut it for me. I would not recommend this. Sorry!"

"It's fluffy-ish, it absorbs urine. That's about all I can say for aspen shavings. My guinea pig got little sores on her feet from the rough shavings. I change her bedding completely every week, and her "potty corner" almost daily, so the sores are not due to excess moisture. I'm going to try switching to a paper based fluff, and see how she does."

"A rough, dusty bedding with a very strong chemical scent. Largest size advertised at 5 cu. ft. and comes in uncompressed bags labeled 4 cu. ft. - it is a rip-off unless a similar product cannot be found elsewhere. My guinea pigs don't seem to mind it - they like to eat it - but I try to mix it with other brands to temper the chemical odor (smells like caustic wood smoke.)"

"My rabbit "Hip Hop" loves this stuff. How more natural could you get? If you are the type of person who likes to stay organic and processing/chemical free, this is the stuff. If you think about the cages where these rabbits are bred before they get to the pet store this bedding is plush, cost effective, and the most important factor for me, makes great compost."

"We have been using this bedding for the last 5 years for rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters. The animals love it. It has very little/no dust, no odor (except a faint clean smell when you hold it up to smell it, right out of the bag, but even this disappears quickly), is long lasting, and higly absorbent.
This litter presents none of the problems or health hazards that other litters have. It is very economical because in it is compressed in the bags, so the volume expands when the bag is opened.
We wouldn't use anything else for our small animals. They clearly enjoy it: they dig in it, burrow, chew some of the little bark that gets in it occasionally, root around in it, and generally have a blast.
Don't subject your little friends to the dangers of pine or cedar bedding. Aspen litter is substantially superior and this brand, formerly under the Premier Pet label, is the best of the Aspen litters. (We tried Kaytee aspen and hated it. It's too finely shredded and its very dusty.)

"If I hadn't made an impulse adoption of a little dwarf hamster, I would NEVER have bought this. but I did and I'll use the bag but unless Kaytee brand stops making aspen shavings, I will never buy this again. It's so hard and I actually got a little cut on my hand when I was breaking up one of the clumps. It's also super dusty and made me sneeze. I will be sticking with my usual Kaytee brand from now on or Carefresh."
