"i just recently got my new robo hamster and this was an okay cage.....the wheel was too big and it is really loud so were getting a new wheel soon, but overall good cage. the water leaks but my hammy loves the food.......my hammy likes to burry tunnels so the cage is really good for that.;P .........its an average starter cage i guess"

"my daughter bought this starter kit this week with her money and it is an over all good value except the water container leaks bad and the cage door in the front is put on backwards. we have had all kinds of cages before and this one seems to be ok for the money and my daughters dwarf hamster loves the wheel"

Great Starter Kit!

"After reading the reviews I was a little iffy about this cage, but I figured it was cheap enough that if it wasn't that great, I'd just get a better one..but I was wrong. This starter kit is awesome, it has the best bedding you can use (carefresh) and the best food you can get..not to mention Penfield (my teddy bear hammy) looovvesss the treat bar..I never tried the water bottle because everyone said it leaked, so I just got another one that never leaks and penfield loves it. The wheel can get a bit annoying at nite because it was bent when it came out of the box so it runs a little funny and it doesn't seem to be completely secure against the bars of his cage, but I sleep like a rock so it doesn't bother me one bit (though it drives my fiance nuts so he's getting him a new one this week) The cage is completely escape-proof, I got Penfield when he was about 8-9 weeks and though he was tiny, he just couldn't fit through the bars. I like how tall the cage is as well, it gave me room to move the 2nd story up some when Penfield started growing, and add a nice long kabob treat stick from the ceiling. The only thing I don't like is Penfield will outgrow the cage because even though it's tall, the width isn't very impressive..but for right now he fits it fine but I know within a few weeks I'll need to get him a bigger one with a bigger floor. But for a starter kit for a baby teddy bear (syrian) or 2 dwarf hammies it would be perfect for them. I'd suggest it to anyone just starting out with a baby hammy."

"i brought this for my new hampster that i got for my birthday and it is so small that i have to switch out the bed with the wheel or the igloo also the wheel is loud and the water drips also the food bowl is small. heres a tip if you buy and all in on chances are the cange is no good. this cage is only good for a starter"

"the water tank is lieking...my hamster she like her new cage a day before i got her the other kinda(critter trail brand)...but for some reason she didn't like it....she acting very strange as soon as i put her there...and theworst part she got out of that cage..thank god i found her soon...so i decided to change it with this one.....oh god u could tell the different...u could see that she was very happy....rubbing her body to the beddings.....playing all night in the wheels......but like i mention it just the water tank lieking A LOT.....and make my hamster think that theres a big flood and start storing food in her mouth..lolz"

"Amazing! this cage is great! i got this cage for my dwarf hamster Fifi a few days ago, and she LOVES it.
i had a few problems. but they were silly of me. One..the wheel it was having a hard time turning, so i put Pam, still wouldn't move. then i clean her cage. (very easy you take off the top in snaps and dump old stuffing clean wipe replace. so easy.) and i ended up putting less bedding/stuffing. and the wheel turns so easily. people say that the wheel squeaks but oh no. not for me. she loves her wheel.
two.. the water bottle was leaking like crazy. before i left for school in the morning i changed Fifi's water. by the time i got home the entire place was soaked. my Fifi was shivering. poor Fifi. then i went to Petco and got a new animal farm water bottle. it is awesome.
over all my hamster loves this place. it is escape proof. chew proof.and Fifi loves her wheel. everything is great size for her. it took her a while to get up the tunnel but she got the hang of it. and she eats the stick so much. she LOVES it. she would rather have that then her food, fruit or anything.i totally recommend it."

Too small for syrians, otherwise great!

"This cage was awesome because it came with essentially everything I needed to get started with my first hamster. I love the deep base, I can give my hamster plenty of bedding to burrow in and it doesn't get kicked everywhere. And the base detaches easily for cleaning. The whole cage is very easy to assemble. The wheel makes a bit of noise, it has a tendency knock against the side of the cage, but it's MUCH better than listening to the squeak of a metal wheel. I quieted the noise by just putting a couple of folded paper towels between the wheel and the side of the cage to muffle the noise a bit and it's fine.
The biggest downfall for this cage is that, like every cage Petco markets for hamsters, it's too small for most Syrians. It only lasted a few months before my black bear hamster outgrew it. The wheel is much to small for her now, she has to arch her back to use it which is really bad for her, and the cage is too small to accommodate a larger wheel. The tube that leads up to the second story is also too small, so I just took it out and moved the shelf lower so she could just climb up and down on her own.
All in all, I thought this was a great cage and my hamster loved it. I am a little disappointed that I have to give it up and move to a bigger cage (I just bought the rat manor for my hammie - now she has WAY MORE than enough room. lol). This would probably be a perfect cage for mice and dwarf hamsters!"

"This cage has lasted 3 months for my 18 week old Teddy Bear hamster. After 3 months it got a little small. It is easy to clean because of the clip off top part.
The wheel is a little noisy but my hamster likes it. The food shelf is not easy to take off and clean. Overall this cage is a good purchase."

"Ok it is not chew proof! My hamster is chewing on it non-stop and I need to get her a better one. It is too small for Syrians. The stuffing comes out and the lining where the wires is is filled with junk. Please do not buy this, it is useless junk."

"When i first got my dwarf hamster,Bitsy, from Petco there were several cages to choose from for her. I saw this one since it included everything for my new dwarf hammy i decided to buy it! "I recently bought this cage for my hamster. I think its great. It took him some time to figure out the tunnel to the second floor, but all in all its great. The wheel is just the right size for him, although it squeaks a little. Its perfect my hamster!"

"I bought this starter kit at a PETCO retail store when I bought my hamster, Natasha. She's definitely a bit too big for the cage, but she has adapted to her small home for the time being. She will not use the tube. As one of the previous reviews stated, she climbs up the side of the cage and drops down to the lower-level to eat when the tube is attached. I've found that removing the tube and lowering the second level has been more practical for her. She'd rather climb through the hole in the platform.
The wheel is way too small for her. She has to arch her back when she uses it.. I'm sure it's not safe for her, so I will be buying a larger wheel as soon as possible. Watch out for the water bottle; mine leaks a little. However, it hasn't caused a ton of moisture, so I'm not too concerned at the moment.
All in all, I would recommend this cage to anyone who is in a pinch. I, personally, will be purchasing a larger cage. Natasha bores easily and needs extra space to keep her entertained."

"I actually got this cage for my mouse. It was kind of a risk but it was the only cage Petco had that might be appropriate for one.
The cage is described as 'easy to assemble', but when we put it together we felt like we were going to break it trying to get the walls apart. Once we forced it out of the stuck-flat position it was in, it was pretty easy to figure out.
The bars are small enough that my adult-sized mouse cannot slip through, and he likes the wheel. The tube is a good size for him and he likes to run up it and then eat his food. The platform is useful because it gives my mouse a place to sit and eat, above the rest of his home. The front door is kind of stiff and noisy to open but the top opens easily. The wheel rattles but it rattles less if you put vegetable oil in the center, which also keeps squeaking away. It seemed like a pretty good deal because it comes with stuff that'll probably last you at least a couple weeks.. well maybe less, but for a mouse it did. The bedding is nice and a brand I trust, and the food was pretty good although it had a few things that he wouldn't eat (maybe because it's not mouse-specialized). The mouse enjoyed nibbling the treat bar that came with it, and also uses the water bottle with ease. Good for a small pet or even two mice, although I'm not sure if it'd be great for a hamster because they tend to be kind of chubby.

The wire part of the cage latches on so you can take it off for easy washing of the bottom. The wire part is a bit tricky to clean, because it stays in the box shape, unless you want to spend a lot of time unlatching all the edges.
The top has handles, but be sure the cage is latched to the bottom, otherwise everything will spill out. It's very easy to carry around from room to room, if you want to keep your pet company.
A decent cage for small animals, (great for climbing) and comes with all you need for the first few weeks."

"I recieved this kit as a present, and even though it's not the brand of cage I normally use this is still pretty good. The base is a nice thick plastic and the bar's are narrow so it's safe. My hammy personally doesn't like the tube, she just climbs on the wire to get to the second level. The wheel is a little small for her, so I'm going to buy a bigger one soon. The food and treat are awesome. I really like the bold red colour of it, looks good for boys or girls. Overall it's a really nice kit and has pretty much everything you need. Oh, it also has little handles so you can pick up the cage. The quality is good, but I still prefer the Super Pet brand. If you are looking for a good starter kit for hammies or gerbils get this cage!"
