"As a first time pig owner, I bought this cage after I adopted my pig (I don't buy animals). He was young, but even then, it seemed like it was just too small. It was simple to put together, and my bottle didn't leak, but the food was poor quality. There was a lot of stuff in it that shouldn't be. The ramp and shelf were useless since guinea pigs aren't really good climbers, so after I learned more about them, I took the shelf and ramp out to try to give him more room.
As Fred got older, he didn't do normal guinea pig stuff, like popcorning. He was always happy when I gave him his daily green peppers and lettuce, but after he ate, he hung out under the shelf in the cage (before I took it out). It was too small for me to put an igloo inside and he just seemed so unhappy.
Since then, I have made my own cage for Fred, adopted a male friend for him, and I use this cage to put inside my big cage and use it as a kitchen area so the rest of the big cage has run around room. It works great as a kitchen. Keeps all the hay inside because of the deep base and they like to use it as a litter box as well (which makes cleaning their new fleece bedding much easier!).
Now Fred is a lot happier and is always popcorning!
So, while I wouldn't recommend it to keep a pig in (I have no idea how people can keep 2 pigs in this cage), it does work for a kitchen/litterbox.
I wish they would stop advertising it as a suitable cage for a guinea pig, or at least include good food with it instead of bad food."
