Good to start but will have to upgrade

"We purchased this when we bought our new guinea pig. The setup was great because it included EVERYTHING (even food and bedding! yay!) but after putting it together and having Murray (the pig) live in it for awhile we noticed a few things that could make it a better product. The cage is small. It was fine when we first bought him as a baby but now that he's getting bigger the cage seems like it really could use at least 2 more square feet of floor space. I bought a separate hay hanger for the side of the cage, and we hung it on the cage above the balcony so he has as much lower level floor space as possible. Murray hides under the balcony since the cage is too small for any sort of pigloo, so we have to blindly reach under for him when we want to get him out. The top of the cage doesn't lift off so I could see this becoming a problem if your guinea pig is a runner (luckily he moves his body onto our hand so we can get him out without too much trouble). I hate that the balcony only has hooks on two sides and not all three. The entire balcony would shift forward when Murray would walk between the food bowl and cage wall, leaving a space between the balcony and the cage wall where his leg could slip through and injure him. We fixed this by drilling a hole through the back of the balcony and securing it to the cage wall with a small piece of wire. I really like that the balcony has an elevated section that the food bowl sits on; it keeps the bowl from sliding around when he's eating. We didn't have any out of the ordinary leaky water bottle problems but I did also hear that corn is bad for guinea pigs and the food does have that mixed in. He really likes the food though so we will finish the bag and then switch him over to the pellet food. The amount of bedding you get is only enough for the initial cage setup, so buy more bedding while you're already at the store since you'll have to change it all after about week."

"Well i got this cage on May 14th (the day after my birthday) and it was sorta hard to put together but we got it done. I get annoyed sometimes trying to refill the water bottle because its hard to take it out from being on the cage. Also my guinea pig is always under the balcony, which is getting on my nerves. So i think im going to take it out. It's also a little small because if u have the balcony on it doesnt have much room to walk around since it has the stair thing. The water bottle leaks too but it said that at first it leaks a few drops so...
Its fine but when my guinea pig gets bigger im DEFINITLY going to have to get a bigger cage. But whats funny is my guinea pig is a PIG when he eats, he gets the food EVERYWHERE!! but its cute."

"I love my new cage! It was so easy to assemble. I set it up in the back of my grandmas truck! When I brought it home and I put in Peg(my pig) I had to show her how to go up the ramp. and she stayed up there all night. She was stuck! I had to help her down this morning. Andlike all the other reviws that say that the water bottle leaks, I got mine under control and made it not drip. Any first time owner or even one with a grown pig like mine, it works great for both. I might get a new pig and I think that the both of them will fit."

"Well i got the cage about 2 weeks ago because i couldnt resest the great buy so i got the cage and got my pig,missy whos a baby and absoluly loves it. I took it home and put it together and put missy in it. but the drawback was when i got up the next day i went to pick her up and the betting was soaked! so i guess i would recomend a leak free bottle any way this was a great deal its big and great for genny pigs!"

"I got my guinea pig yesterday. He is a baby. I got the cage thinking it would be good. I got it out of the box and it was HUGE, well bigger than I thought anyway. So i got everything put together and its all easy assembly. The worst thing is the water dispenser, i filled it up when i put the cage together around 2 in the afternoon, i went to bed around 9 and i woke up the next morning and went to hold my guinea and i felt the shavings and they were soaked! and the whole bottle was empty, it all leaked out! i suggest getting a different leak resistant water bottle when you buy the cage. And another things is he is staying under the balcony, i dont know if he is shy but if it doesnt stop after a week or so im just going to take it out."

"I bought this cage Saturday for our first guinea pig, Pebbles, and I have yet to really care for it. The cage is decent but I quickly realized I had to take out the balcony because all she wanted to do was stay under there and had a hard time getting up the slope so she wasn't able to eat her food. The food that came with it I don't understand because I've done alot of research since Saturday and learned that mixed food isn't good for them, it should be all pellets and fresh veggies. The hay and bedding have been the best things out of the whole kit. I had to buy a new bottle because the one that came with it leaked and the wire that holds it on (and the wires on the cage) are very flimsy and bend easily. Overall, it's a decent starter but I had to re-buy most of the supplies that came with it so I recommend buying a cage and the stuff seperaley.. Once I got everything put in it really isn't as roomy as it seems and mine is a baby so pretty soon I know I'm already going to have to buy a bigger cage."

"This cage is a PAIN! It is very hard to lug around and clean!!! I have two pigs in there and through the white bars, when they run, all the bedding flys out getting bedding all over my floor. also the food dish is not very held together. they can knock it over off the balcony, then of course a cup of food gets wasted! I would not recomend it to anyone!"

"The bedding is good, i have continued to use it. Im changnig foods, Chloe my gp likes it but there are better foods. the hay was great! The cage itself is nice the plastic is high enough that less bedding is thrown around when she runs, the size is OK for one but im going to build something nicer and bigger eventually. 7.5 sq ft is the recommended space for one G.P. She loved the balcony but i took it out because it quickly became the potty and i was wiping it down 3 times a day otherwise it got very gross but it works fine without. My ownly problem is it doesnt have an opening up top, it gets difficult catching her at times...shes a runner. Oh also i bought a bottle gaurd becuase the water bottle slipped and slided all over."

"This cage is a pretty good cage. It is big so my pig has a lot of room to run a round. One of the things that I am unsure about is that guinea pigs can only see from side to side so they jump off anything. So I don't have the ramp up right now but I'm willing to try it latter. The food is kind of weird because guinea pigs aren't suposed to eat corn and there's corn in the food so I think that is strang. But the cage is great!"

"I am a first time guinea pig owner and just bought my little Jasmine last Sunday, the same time I bought this starter kit. The only other thing I bought at the time was a blue cardboard tube for her to play/sleep in. She loves it!! She really likes the second floor and has fun doing laps on the first floor. I did end up getting a corner dish for her hay on the first floor, because it was too much of a mess to put it with the rest of her food on the second floor (and this way it isn't so messy on the main level). I would definitely recommend this product for a first time guinea pig owner!!"

"I had one guinea pig and i got it at petco on the 4th of july. I got this kit to go with it. Lola( the guinea pig) loved it. She has lots of room to run around in and play. She loves the balcony, and sleeps under it. It is a wonderful starter kit. Today i got another guinea pig named Layla. The cage is big enough for both of them!, they love it. If this is your first time with your guinea pig i would recomend it."
