Decent but not great
Date: November 16, 2009
"I like things to be simple and fast and this thing isn't either of those. Figuring out how to fill it up the first time was frustrating! I eventually gave up and gave it to my boyfriend to figure out, after about 2 hours it was running but we took large plastic screw out of the middle of the dome. The water flows all over the dome when you take it out. We fill it up now by just pouring water into the bowl rather than take the whole thing apart. Our cat loved it the first two days but for her I guess the water is now TOO cold and the noise it makes is about half as loud as a microwave and I always make sure it full. I think that kinda bugs her. Its seems best for small dogs and ppl w/ a lot of patience. I think I'm gonna go trade it for a drinkwell."

"It is a good idea but it needs clamps on it so the my cat doesn't take the top off. Other then that it is cool. If you have a cat that like to remove stuff then this product would not be good."

Love it!
Date: October 2, 2009
"I'm surprised at all the negative reviews for this guy. Yeah, it's a little bit finicky, but I would say that it's well worth the miniscule amount of hassle.
Howard became obsessed with this fountain when we were shacking up in another apartment. The other cats had one, and he would sit in the kitchen, staring at it. I finally made the investment so that he could have one of his own, and he is completely enamored of it. Scout, our most recent addition, also really likes it.
Problems I have occassionally:
-My cats like to "fish" in their water bowl, and some litter will build up if I haven't replaced the filter in awhile. If you have multiple cats, you should do this every 2-3 weeks. They're not that expensive.
-The black adapter inside the device (the bubbler, if you will) has a little vent on the front of it that occassionally gets clogged with rogue fur. If your fountain isn't working properly, this is the first place to check.
-It took me several weeks to realize which "bubble" was the largest and needed to be positioned over the cord adapter. Now that I have, it's totally fine, and I've never had any trouble with the dome fitting properly on the base.
I would definitely recommend this to anybody with cats. They love the moving water, and I think that cleaning it once a week is loads less annoying than having to refill and clean a water dish several times a day. For the price, you really can't go wrong."

HAPPY CATS
Date: September 29, 2009
"I would recommend this to everyone. My cats love it. The water is contantly circulating, so it is fresh all the time. The only draw back is the filter has to be replaced from time to time. The plus is they are not too expensive so they are certainly affordable.
I tried to pick up on at the local store however, the store did not carry them, so I ordered online. I think this should be an item which is carried at the store level."

A fun and different fountain
Date: September 19, 2009
"Easy to assemble, quiet, the cats and dogs took to it very quickly. I think it actually worked better for me without the little spout screwed into the top - the water flowed better and it didn't splash as much. Definitely put a mat down - the large drinking surface means lots of splashing if your cats are sharing the fountain with dogs. I'd definitely buy this product again."

Good when it's working...
Date: August 18, 2009
"Awful when it's not! It makes a horrible sound when it isn't completely full. It started growing algae INSIDE THE BUBBLE! And once I thought I finally had it under control... it completely DIED!! I researched this product, and I'll get anything that's suppose to be good for my cats... but I wish I'd gotten a simpler fountain and not wasted the money."

it's a pain and my cats would not use it
Date: August 4, 2009
"I bought this to replace another fountain that broke after being dropped. None of my 4 cats would drink from the Catit, though one would occasionally play with the water. Filling was not much trouble -- just remove the dome and fill though the hole in the bottom. The biggest problem I had was getting the dome re-seated correctly after filling. I was careful to line it up the same way each time, but more than half the time it took several attempts to get the parts lined up correctly. Other times it lined up on the first try. Once it was assembled water flowed well. After a few months I threw it out and got another fountain that all my cats like and is easier for me to clean and fill."

Mixed feelings
Date: July 20, 2009
"Pro: My cats love to drink from this fountain.
Cons: Even though the dome holds a lot of water, it doesn't replenish the water level in the bowl; I was under the mistaken impression that such a large waterer would keep my cats watered at least for a weekend absence, but it needs to be refilled twice a day. There is also a problem with algae build-up that requires frequent disassembly. Finally, I wonder why Petco doesn't carry replacement filters online.

Cats like it
Date: June 30, 2009
"Yeah, the cats like it and each has his/her own method of drinking from it; it's rather humorous. However, I don't like it for it's difficulty to refill. The dome fastens to the "plate" via a large threaded "dial" that is MOST DIFFICULT to remove for refilling. I used Vaseline on the threads to help make it release better and even then it was still sticky. I wish the dome was even larger because the cats enjoy the running, cold water and do drink more often. I have had this for nearly a year and the pump unit has burned out. Now to try to replace the unit - hmm? I have not found such a thing yet and I do NOT want to buy an entire new waterer!"

I love the CatIt Fountain
Date: June 17, 2009
"I have had a CatIt Fountain for over 4 years. Every once and a while I will run 100% vinegar through the fountain. It cleans off all the calcium deposits. (Make sure you rinse it out afterwards!) Sometimes the motor does not start after I have cleaned it and changed the water. I plug the motor in, and poke a toothpick into the plastic blades. Rotate the blades with the toothpick. That will kick start the blades for you."

Almost great
Date: March 31, 2009
"I got mine from some where else and it was great for a few months and then it just stopped. They said that if I have hard water calcium builds up and I woul dhave to send it to the company that made and they would determine if it was bad or not. A gareat hassel. I can get a new and different one for less. Pht-t-t-t-t-t!"

Obsessed Kitty
Date: February 9, 2009
"Prior to purchasing this, my cat would only drink cold Brita water. If it sat out for longer than an hour she would whine until I got her MORE COLD BRITA WATER. It was getting quite demanding. When I came home from the store with new toys and the water fountain, she followed me around from room to room while I cleaned it... ignoring the new toys. As soon as I plugged it in she was obsessed!! I am surprised her tongue wasn't getting tired. Every once in a while, the dome has issues with coverage but if you make sure the "handle" is tight you shouldn't have many problems. I just wish I could find another bowl for her wet food to go in."

poor product
Date: February 1, 2009
"Bought this several months prior. Has either not pumped enough water to cover the dome or pumed all the water out of the unit onto the floor. Filters are $$$ and the unit is fussy to clean. I am looking for a replacement. Would not re-buy and suggest you look for another product to water your cat."

constantly dirty
Date: January 28, 2009
"The dome was constantly dirty and the bowl part got scummy almost every other day. I spent more time cleaning it during the week than my cats did drinking out of it. I was never able to get the water to flow evenly over the dome, usually just a few trickles went over each side."

Worst Purchase Ever!
Date: December 30, 2008
"Sorry that I bought this drinking fountain for my three cats. Could never get the water to flow around the dome no matter how many times I rubbed my hands around it! The water would only trickle down in one area. I finally got disgusted and threw it away.I bought a Fresh Flow and have had NO problems with it. Wish I had bought it before I bought the CatIt water fountain."

cat unfreindly
Date: December 29, 2008
"cats seem to like their water free falling. This item has a good flow, but, no free fall. My older cat Duke refused to drink out of it. He would rather drink out of the toilet(which as we all know is very unhealthy). The other problem with this fountain is the lack of ease refilling. It has a small aperture. We ended up buying him a Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain. He is much happier now. And we are too"

Alright for multiple cats
Date: December 19, 2008
"Filter is easy to install, but what i don't like is the frequency of changing it with multiple cats using it, which equals a lot of $$$$$. Motor makes loud pumping noises when full of water and near empty. Water reservoir need to sit perfectly on the pump to allow the flow of water to get to the top of the water reservoir. Water does not last that long, needs to be filled at least twice a day. But after all that being said i continue to use because the motor is not broken and the cats continue to love it and drink out of it."

Great if you know the tricks
Date: December 2, 2008
"This is a great, very quiet fountain. Very little water noise if it's set up right. And you can avoid most of the things people have reviewed negatively about if you know a few tricks.
Complaint: It makes a lot of water noise and overflows, spilling water onto the floor.
If you make sure the water is running evenly over the entire dome, this shouldn't be a problem. The instructions say to rub your hands over the dome, but I've found it better to direct the water from where it comes out the top first. It sometimes takes a few seconds to get it flowing right, but once it's going, it'll stay that way and won't spill.
Complaint: It's hard to get the dome to fit on the base.
Sometimes it takes a little jiggling, but only a couple seconds. If it won't fit right, the little green cap on the base probably fell off. Set that right and it fits easy as pie. (assuming pie is easy...)
Complaint: Water doesn't drain into fountain. Pump is noisy.
The dome is probably not seated correctly. When it's in place, it's very secure. If the dome feels wobbly, it's not in the right place yet.
Complaint: Bowl gets a slimy feeling after a few days.
I'm told this is due to hard water, not the fountain. The filter, unfortunately, isn't as thorough as a pur or brita filter, it just removes hair and such. But that it does fine.
I gave it four paws because ideally a fountain shouldn't have to be fiddled with to work properly, but it does come apart so you can clean ALL of the inner workings and it has less water sound than most other fountains.
Oh, and my cat loves drinking from it. Which is ultimately the most important thing."
