"Having worked in the Avian and pet industry for many years now and the owners of many birds over half of which are rescue birds, a scale is needed. Birds do hide illness well and sometimes it's too late before you know they are ill and a scale can help you identify if anything is off. If they are losing weight you can get them to a vet. I spent every day at work educating people about their animals/birds about feeding and other things and this is just another thing pet owners shoud be educated about because it could just help them save their birds if they are ill. I hope this helps."

"As a bird owner and keeper at the local zoo, I know how important it is to regularly check your bird's weight. As a prey species, birds will not show signs of illness as best they can for natural fear of being predated. One minute they're seeming fine and the next they've pegged out on you. Be responsible and check your birds weight. Start stick training your bird (teach him to step up onto and stay on a stick) then you can easily transition to the perch on the scale!! Good luck fellow bird lovers!!"

"My daughter and I were first time cockatiel owners. Our cockatiel was sick and we didn't notice in time to save him. He lost lots of weight. By the time we figured out that he was sick it was too late. Having a scale might be unnecessary for the experienced bird owner, but for an inexperienced one it is very helpful. Birds are very good at hiding illness. My daughter and I both feel safer being able to check our new bird's weight once a week."
