For Pushy Cats Only

Since there was no way to open the box in the store, I had to buy this unit just by the picture. The construction is sturdy and the unit can be installed in a very wide range of door/wall materials & sizes, which is nice. My concern, after examining the unit closely, is that my cats are both very shy, non-physical types and there is a second magnet on the door flap which does not let go when the activator on the collar releases the first magnet. I don't understand the purpose of the second magnet and, although it is rather small, it's strong enough that my cats don't think the door is going to open or maybe they don't like the amount of pressure applied to their head that is necessary to disengage this second magnet. They are both fine with the free swinging cat flap I've been using, so I've had to revert to that. I would only recommend this for cats that are willing to push things around. I ordered this unit during a "20% off Sitewide" sale with free shipping, so fortunately, I can return the unit to a local store & get 100% of my money back.

Country Door

When living in town, my dog (yes, she uses a cat door since she's only 7.5 lbs) used a traditional door. We could lock it from either direction, both directions, or not at all. When we bought a house on 5 acres, we decided this magnetic door would be the best option to keep uninvited guests out. The magnetic device does not unlock unless the "key" touches the door in a very precise location which usually means that the invited guest is locked out. After a few short days, she realized once she went out she would not be able to get back in; therefore, she now chooses to do her business on the floor inside instead of risking getting locked out. I wish that I would have read the reviews before heading to the store.

I had high hopes for this cat door to replace a simple door that worked well but was letting the coons in, but unfortunately, it works inconsistently and mechanism seems overly complicated and fragile. I'll be returning and looking for electronic options.

The jury is still out

You need a "not sure" above.
First, you should have instructions for using the door through a wall. I installed it OK, but no thanks to you. We have had a cat door for some time, but the cats are having a hard time adjusting to this one. Having a hard time getting them to push HARD with their heads.
One of the worst things about the door is that it lets the cold air just breeze on in. I don't know what you can do, but there ought to be some way to make it more air tight. I might as well replace it with an air conditioning duct! (I am sorry there is no font for sarcasm)
The good news. After taking it apart for a wall installation, I thought I might have lost a part as I thought there should be some physical connection between the lever and the release mechanism. When all else fails, call the 800 number and be prepared to have something to do while you wait for a live person. Well, to my surprise it was a short wait and the lady on the phone actually knew what she was doing and clearly explained how it worked.
