The squeeze-to-close handle works fine just like other scoops. But this scoop has many small teeth that mesh together when closed. It does not maneuver well around the target. You rip up grass and crush and slice up the contents making it harder to get the job done. A more open design with fewer large opposing teeth lets grass escape and allows more accurate scooping. I wish I had stayed with that design. This scoop is nowhere near as good, but it costs about the same.

Great idea but the quality/design is a problem. The handle breaks very easily, we've had probably 6 of these because they are so handy but the grab part of the handle breaks. Next time I'll reinforce it before using it, should be easier than trying to fix it after it's broke.

Just bought this from my local store & used it for 20 minutes at home before it broke. It's going back today & getting a different brand. Wish I had read the reviews before I went to the store.

I but almost all my dog supplies from Petco and I am pleased with the quality & price. Recently, I puchased the plastic large size claw scoop and it worked great for 5 times before it broke. nI was given a replacement and the replacement lasted 2 times before it broke in the same place.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF JUNK!

I purchased this scooper for full price and I was sceptical being it's all plastic. Yet there were no options at Petco at this time. I used it a few times a week for about 3 weeks and part of the plastic that attaches the scoop broke off. For no reason at all but poor craftsmanship. It was hardly used and stored in the shed when unused.

This works great as long as the grass is fairly short. It can take a little wiggling to get it to close all the way the closer it gets to needing to mow the yard again, but all in all I think it's fine.

broke 2nd time I used it. Plastic shaft breakes at turn that goes to jaws. Store 30 miles round trip.Can't afford another so I fixed it with metal L bracket and screws. 2 months later broke again other side had to drill new holes and use L bracket with screws. Now it has dodo in it great job. Don't waste your money.

I had this same problem as above quote after a couple of uses on the plowed snow area....... and of course i did not keep the receipt so was out quite a little bit of money and no Scooper.....Concept of being able to use on packed snow or cement is great but they really need to IMPROVE the spring system..

My partner and I have owned and operated a dog boarding and training facility for over 10 years and have lots of experience with several different types and brands of scoops. I purchased one of these at Pet Co, and it lasted at least 2 years at full service daily. When it finally bit the dust, I ordered 4 more online. We use the Jumbo version of this scoop on grass, pea gravel and concrete with excellent results.
