Bottoms up is fantastic
Date: September 20, 2009
"Our 9-year old chow mix felt comfortable with this special leash from the first time we put it on her. It has greatly increased her mobility. She went from being just about unable to walk to two to three regular walks a day, although shorter and slower than what we have been used to most of her life. The only issue is that its hard to steer her from the back, so some times we use this and a short lead on her collar. Bottom line: Bottoms Up is a life saver."

Could be designed better
Date: June 25, 2008
"This leash is a good idea for an arthritic or recovering dog, but I had a lot of problems getting it to stay on long enough to get it over both legs and in the right directions. I am trying to rehabilitate a medium sized (55 lb) dog who had a back operation and was very weak in the rear, but all he had to do was move just a little while I was trying to put both sides on correctly and it would be twisted and off the leg I just put it on. It was very frustrating for me and the dog, since he had to go outside to relieve himself. If the dog can stand and will stay still, it's easy to do, but other than that(like when a dog cannot stand up), it's like doing a magic trick to get it on and stay on long enough to get tension on the lead to hoist the rear.
It might be easier if there were clip closures at each leg rather than just a loop that can be tightened. Then you can snug up the leg opening tighter if you were able to put it on at the top of the leg rather than picking up each leg and pulling it up.
The price at Petco.com was much lower than most online stores.

bottom's up leash
Date: April 19, 2008
"this seems to have great potential however did not work for us. It really is NOT one size fits all up to 125 lbs. Our dog is approx. 100 lbs. and it is not workable for him unfortunately. I think however it would work well if it fit him properly."

Exactly what I expected...
Date: February 27, 2008
"When I saw this product online, I was afraid the straps might be too wide for my little 20# French Bulldog but thought it was still worth a try. The item arrived very quickly (thanks, Petco.com). The straps would be better if they were made out of say a Mountain lead/collar material (rounded woven nylon or cotton). My dog didn't want to walk in it at first but with a trail of food on the floor he overcame that fairly quickly. He still isn't comfortable in it enough to eliminate with it on (though it's just the first day).
It's also a fine line between giving him enough slack to squat but keeping enough tension for the straps not to slip down his legs. He's also a little dickens who still will scamper in the yard even though he's losing use of his hind legs, so that makes it hard to keep up with him! I think I may just drop the lead and let him run out of it when he does that, but I'm afraid it will trip him, so we'll see about that idea.
Anyway, I would still recommend the Bottom's UP leash for medium to large size dogs having trouble with their hind ends. I may leave another comment after having more experience with it and my smaller dog (don't tell HIM he's small!)"
