Zoo Med Aquatic Natural Mopani Wood

A beautiful two color African hardwood for aquariums.Use with aquarium plants to create the "naturalistic" aquarium look. One of the hardest and densest woods available; sinks immediately in aquariums and unlike driftwood, will not rot!

Mopani Wood: Good value
Date: September 19, 2009
"The wood is beautiful and will not fall apart. The colors and shape is a wonderful addition to any planted aquarium. It is a great value and sure beats trying to sink found driftwood. Do expect it the leach color into your tank. I see several mindboggling complaints from people about discoloration. I suggest people purchase an acrylic replica if they cannot deal with the slight discoloration or the treatment process. The discoloration can be curbed by bucket soaking the wood for an extended period. I soaked mine for over three weeks.
The only down side from an online order is that you never know the actual size and shape of the piece you will get.

This is nice wood!
Date: August 30, 2009
"I have 6 tanks, all with manzanita wood and thought I'd give this a shot. VIBRANT and sinkable, this wood will also leak tannins for a few days so be prepared for brown water.
It is really pretty, and not at all expensive."

Great product
Date: March 7, 2009
"Purchased 2 small pieces for my 20 gallon planted tank. Soaked them in a bucket and changed the water daily. After about a week, there was only minimal water discoloration. They look great in the tank, and the slight water coloring has given it a more natual look. Perfect for a planted tank, and the fish love their new playground!"

Mopani slime
Date: March 2, 2009
"I purchased mopani wood from Petco and had the problem with a white opaque slime about 1/8 to 1/4 '' thick forming on the light side of the wood. Don't know if this is common or if boiling will stop this from happening."

Love it
Date: April 20, 2008
"Simply Stunning in any aquarim. Does what it should do and with a little time the tannins will slowly let the tea color fade away it is apart of the beauty of wild fish and what they live in and if your looking for a realistic aqaurium then this is what you should find."

Blackwater wood
Date: February 15, 2008
"This wood is intended to discolor the water somewhat since it is meant to be set up for a black water enviroment, like the amazon river, for "neons" "angelfish" "Discus" ... Ofcourse other fish will do just fine in this too ... but as said this wood does what it intended to do"

I REGRET BUYING IT
Date: January 5, 2008
"About 3 weeks ago, I purchased this good looking stick. I let it sit in the water for 24 hours, and when I saw it, the water was a brownish-yellow! It was discusting. I regret buying it. It was a waste of money. I tried washing it and scrubbing it, but when I put it back in the water it turned yellow again. My fish looks like he would rather be dead than live in that water.
Like I said before, it looks GREAT, but it isn't worth it!

Good Looks Bad Results
Date: December 30, 2007
"This looks great in the aquarium(i am trying to get a dessert theme and this wood seemed perfect [12"] but its a pain to take care of, i have tried to soak it but the tannins keep returning (i have a eclipse system-six aqua. with the cartridges that have little effect so far...)I'm sure if i did this properly it would've come out better but i kind of rushed it."

Mopani Wood
Date: December 30, 2007
"I read on other sites to soak this wood for 2 weeks. I did, changing the water 1-2 times daily and the tea-colored water became more dilute each day. I then put it in my tank and the tank water is still a light tea-color. This is normal. Watch the pH and do your water changes regularly. It will eventually subside. I think this the most beautiful wood for the aquarium with its color variations and the wait was worth it."

not in water yet
Date: November 22, 2007
"bought this a week ago..i was told to soak it in a bucket of water to release the tannins in the wood...so far many buckets of boiling water the color is still like tea...im hoping a few days more...it does lower the ph somewhat in the tank. it will look great but a lot of work trying to remove the discolorization...any one have any ideas?"

Good Buy!!
Date: July 9, 2007
"This is a very good piece of wood and looks great in the aquarium. However, it does NOT automatically sink...at least the small size doesn't.
I ended up floating it in a separate bucket for a day or so as I "expected" I would have to.
So despite the claim of "sinking"...I am happy with my purchase and have ordered a few more pieces for my tank.
Lastly, as for "never rotting" goes?? I guess I won't find that out for quite some time.
