"Caring for two foster 7 yr old Golden Retrievers that were never leash trained. This harness makes walking possible. However, make sure it is adjusted well or they can slip out!"

Amazing! Truly works!!! Date: December 11, 2008
"My 10 month old (75lb) Doberman is (was) a horrible leash puller. When we started walking him with a flat collar he wore the hair off his neck/chest area. We then tried a prong/pinch collar and if anything, he pulled even more. He now has hairless prong marks all over his neck/chest area because of the excessive pulling.

Last night I tried the Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness under the recommendation of a store employee. I thought "there's no way THAT will work for my dog" but I bought it anyways.

I took it home and adjusted it to fit him, or so I thought. I made him sit while adjusting it and when he stood up it was too big and slipped off. So I had him stand and adjusted it again and it was perfectly snug. I snapped the leash on and away we went. It was a COMPLETE MIRACLE. I'm not exaggerating. There was night and day difference in my dog immediately. He figured out very quickly that pulling would only get him turned around and gave up within a minute. After that, he didn't just walk nicely beside me, he PRANCED. I think he was just as happy as I was to not have to fight the leash the whole walk. It was the first enjoyable walk we've had and I'm looking forward to many many more with the Gentle Leader.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying this if your dog is a leash puller too!"

"My boxer always pulls when I take her for a walk. This harness is great! I could let my 75 year old father take her for a walk. There is no pulling at all!"

Something that actually works Date: November 24, 2008
"I finally found something that actually keeps my 80 lb dog from taking me for a drag. I have tried everything from chokers to pinch collars and even the Halti and nothing seemed to work, until now. I highly recommend this harness to anyone with a dog on a mission (that may not be yours). I feel I finally have control over my dog and no more Darth Vader type breathing from him (you know what I'm talking about). Give it a try if it isn't as great for you it can always be returned (trust me I had doubts too)."

Best Purchase Ever Date: November 18, 2008
"I am in heaven, walking my pug use to be a nightmare every day. She would pull and eat stuff off the ground and let me know she was in charge ever chance she got, no matter what I did. I went and purchase this harness yesterday and took her on her walk today and she was a whole different dog today. Yes she did try and still eat a couple of things off the ground but then finely gave up, there was no pulling from her what so ever. It was nice that both of us got to enjoy our walk today, and my blood pressure wasn't high by the time I got home from my walk. I just wish I would have gotten this two years ago and I wouldn't have been so stress out taking her for a walk. BEST PURCHASE I EVER MADE!"

Simply the best harness Date: October 7, 2008
"I have an eight month old standard labradoodle puppy. She's about 40 pounds. She's a very sweet dog, but is going through that hyper teen age phase and is getting very jumpy. The other problem is that she will sometimes suddenly dash off while on her leash. I have been trying to train her with a standard metal "choke chain" but she dosen't seem to care. I had seemed to fight her a lot and I had to really struggle to keep her from jumping on people.
Lately, it has become a safety issue. I have had a couple instances when she has jerked the lead out of my hand. Today, she slipped out of her collar in a crowded parking lot. She could have been a goner. I immediately did a few minutes of research and decided upon this collar.
Let me tell you...this thing works perfectly and immediately! Before we were even out the door, she responded to the corrections and by the time we were outside, she "got it"
When she pulls, the harness pulls her around to face me..When she dashes, it spins her around to face me haha...I can then correct her, she heels and off we go.
The other good thing is that the force of her pulling or my correction is distributed around her chest, so she is muc much easier to control when she gets out of hand.
The real unexpected thing is that now she seems to enjoy our walks better. She is happy to just have fun and not have to worry about fighting me."

Harness broke apart in 5 minutes, dog got loose! Date: September 3, 2008
"I bought this harness in size medium on the recommendation of several friends, rescuers, and trainers for my leash-reactive dog. He is a very fit, 29-lb Aussie x Border Collie mix and is already well-leash- and obedience-trained (we do competitive obedience and agility)...notably, he IS NOT A PULLER so I did not need this harness to train him not to pull, and in fact, I was already quite content with the results we were getting in terms of improving his reactivity with the custom-made padded leather martingale collar we had been using for walking; however, after hearing about how great this harness was at making dogs feel more comfortable and less defensive compared to having a collar tighten around his neck, I was curious to see if it may lessen his reactivity even further.

Just FYI, in the past, we've tried a regular flat buckle collar (slipped over his head too easily), prong collar (made him more aggressive), head halter (he could not tolerate the sensation of the halter on his muzzle), and padded harness (encouraged him to pull), but the martingale combined with positive reinforcement and clicker-training per Leslie McDevitt's Control Unleashed method clearly works the best for my particular dog and me.

Anyway, when the harness arrived from Petco.com, after adjusting the harness according to the included instructions, I thought we had an ideal fit, and I didn't note any defects. My dog seemed happy to have it on in the house and was responding well to the pressure it creates in the girth area when tension is put on the leash, which attaches to the front chest piece, and so I thought we might take it out for a short spin. We had only walked one block when he was standing next to me, sniffing something on the grass, and I tugged very gently on the leash to let him know I wanted to keep moving--and the chest piece of the harness simply FELL OFF from the body of the harness, leaving me with the leash attached to a useless ring. IF MY DOG HAD NOT BEEN THOROUGHLY OBEDIENCE TRAINED, he could have run right into the four-way intersection and would most likely have been hit by a car. Because he IS obedience-trained, however, I was thankfully able to tell him to "wait" then "sit," and thus I was able to leash him quickly to his collar (thank goodness I never allow him to leave the house without his regular rolled collar and tags on) and so we went home that way.

When I got home and examined the harness, it looks like the stitching where the front chest piece attaches to the body of the harness on the right side had been ripped out completely. To be quite honest, I have no idea how this could have happened, and it must have been a pre-existing flaw in this particular harness--I have used nylon and leather leashes/halters/harnesses on horses and dogs for more than 20 years and have never seen the stitching rip out in this manner, especially on a brand-new item within the first five minutes of use when I had not even been pulling hard on the leash and the dog had not been pulling on me.

In conclusion, although Petco.com has kindly offered to replace this item for me, I am now VERY afraid to give it another try because I do not want to risk my dog's life with another potentially defective harness, even though I do think the harness itself is well-designed and seems like to would have worked well for us. Again, I have other friends who use this harness and they have never heard of such a defect, but I guess we were unlucky. Unless the harness manufacturer can convince me otherwise of the uniform quality of its merchandise, I will be returning this item for a refund and continuing to use our martingale collar."

Money Well Spent! Date: September 2, 2008
"I love the easy walk harness! We have two very loveable but strong 2 year old Rot/Pit mix dogs, the male is 85 lbs and the female is 70lbs. Up until we bought the easy walk harness it was a chore to walk them at the same time. Our female had severe pulling issues and when both dogs were walked together she'd excite our male dog and they would both pull. I have been dragged through the grass and dragged through a gravel driveway on my butt trying to stop them from chasing after a rabbit or to pull to sniff another dog. Thanks to the harness it's not only easy to walk them but it's also a pleasure. It gave us 100% control over our dogs! It's absolutely money well spent!"

Wow!!!!! Date: July 29, 2008
"My husband and I noticed a change in our dog (a 53 lb American Staffordshire Terrier mix) the very first time we walked her with the Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness.
We couldn't believe it. It was like we had a totally different dog. She used to pull a lot during walks. I did not look forward to walking her. However, as a result of this product, I now enjoy going on walks."

Instant change in walking behavior. Date: July 13, 2008
"My fiancee and I really had a hard time walking our two 50lb 7-month old puppies because they kept pulling. I purchased chain collars and the puppies still pulled and even started getting red/bloody necks from the walks. I knew these harnesses worked, because it worked for my >100lb great pyraneese. INSTANTLY my fiancee walked BOTH dogs by herself without constant pulling and having to yell at them. This harness is the best that I've used and instantly stops dogs from pulling and does it in a humane way. I can't give this harness enough praise.
Don't leave the harness on the dog. My fiancee's mother did so and the dog chewed it up. Just an FYI."

Wonderful training tool! Date: July 12, 2008
"I bought this harness because my dog, a mix with part pit bug, would pull me on the leash. When I walked with him without a lease he wouldn't stay close enough or listen (at 9 months old).
After putting it on there was an immediate change in him walking with me. I was able to praise he good behavior and he didn't pull nearly as much. WIth time he has begun to walk better on the lease and without the leash! I recommend this as a good training tool. It makes the walks good enough to be praised and then worked out of. I did get the large and he is a little small for it. So I don't take him on long walks with it and let him run with it off. I suggest that you take your dog in to fit him or be prepared to order a size or two home to try on. and return the one that does not work."

gentle leader problems Date: June 27, 2008
"The leader is a fantastic design to keep your dog from pulling but I have to give it a lower rating. We purchased a large and then a medium size gentle walker. The problem we had is that the large size does not adjust small enough and the medium size does not adjust large enough. Also, our young irish wolfhound mix chewed through the harness within a couple of minutes. Sure would be nice if the smallest adjustment and largest adjustments would overlap between sizes. Rats, this was an expensive shopping adventure!"

Great for Chewers Date: June 11, 2008
"So far, this is the only walking product that my dog hasn't chewed through! It hangs a little low across her chest, so I'm a little worried that it will suffer the same fate as all her other leashes/collars/harnesses. But she doesn't seem to be bothered by it."

Doesn't Work As Intended Date: May 9, 2008
"I bought this because my beagle has a narrowed trachea and has some difficulty with collars. However, even with the correct size and having it snug against my beagle, the harness still manages to slip lose from under her elbow and get hung up on her legs and she can almost slip out of it. So, I turned it around and am now using it like any other ordinary harness."

"I use a gentle walker for my 21 lb rat terrier. She used to try to bolt, and hit the end of the leash really hard, hurting my shoulder and her also. The gentle leader has ended that behavior. Now, we can walk confidently, even if another dog appears around the corner."

Best Harness Date: April 28, 2008
"The Easy Walk harness is great for all size dogs that have a pulling problem. It teaches them to walk nicely by your side in a true heel position. Unlike the Gentle Leader, this causes no balking, depression etc. and of course does not give the look of a muzzle. It is the easiest harness to take off and put on a dog...about 3 seconds without lifting any legs."

Amazing! Date: April 16, 2008
"We've been using a conventional harness on our working dog for years and turns out we were doing it all wrong! THe person at the store informed us that it's like strapping a wagon on a horse and asking him to pull a load! and it's true! Our dog used to pull like crazy!

Walks are finally a good experience again!

Love it!"

Best of the best. Date: March 21, 2008
"We've used all types of harnesses, including padded chest and the D-ring on the back. But by far, the Easy Walk Harness has been the best. It helps redirect him quickly and effectively, without much force from me. Although it's been pricey, especially if you have gnawers like us, I would never use another brand again."

Great Lead for Special Dog Date: March 18, 2008
"I have a St. Bernard with neck problems, so walking him with a traditional collar is harmful to his health. The Gentle Leader allows me to control him easily (and he loves to pull), without putting any pressure on his neck whatsoever. Unlike other harnesses, it's really easy to put on him as well. Highly recommended."
