"my 17 1/2 yr old cat was getting very particular about drinking water..either run a faucet for her or hold a glass of water for her to drink.. otherwise she wouldn't drink until we got home.fthis solved the problem!! a super buy."

"I ended up returning this item, my cats would not use it.. they would rather drink out of the sink faucet. It was big and of course the electrical outlet was not where it was convienient to keep the fountain."

"My cats would constantly knock over their water bowl! As soon as I would fill it, they would spill it!! It got to the point where they weren't drinking any water b/c they would just automatically spill it! I tried one of those big jugs that hold the water and keep the bowl filled but that didnt work either! they ended up knocking that over as well! what a mess! from the second i brought this home, all that stopped! they loved it! they dont splash in it, they dont spill it, and they drink more water than ever before! This is a wonderful product! and I think it's very quiet!!"

"Most of my cats love this fountain. I have a few that don' t like the stream of water but still drink from it. Those that do like it, will sit for minutes drinking. I like the larger water container too."

scary warnings and flimsy plastic

"When I opened the box, there was this bright yellow warning placard that made it seem like the fountain would flood the entire room if you didn't watch it like a hawk. I guess it is to cover themselves for defects, but sheesh, I thought I should just pack it up and send it back immediately. Adding to my insecurity was the fact that the fountain is made of a really thin plastic, not the way it looks on the box or website. You have to remove the top to place the filter and to see if the motor is connected correctly, and the whole thing flexes like it will crack. Well, I used one of them and it didn't flood the room, but does splash around, I suggest you get a waterproof mat to place it on. The sound of the splashing has scared the dogs and cats so far, so nobody has drank from it for the first week. If they don't use it by one month, I guess I'll just stick it back in the box. By the way, I bought two of them, and will probably send the other back rather than set it up in the other level of the house."

"I previously had the Drinkwell Fountain with the additional reservoir attachment and while it was ok, it was a hassle to change. Plus, my kitten decided to attack the bubbles on that reservoir, knocking it over and spilling water all over the place.
The Platinum Pet Fountain is so much better! It has much more capacity (I have to fill the fountain about once a week, and I have two cats), and my kitten cannot tamper with the reservoir compartment (believe me, he's tried!). WORTH THE MONEY!!!"

"I have two dogs and a cat and they all love this water fountain. I use to have to play games with my cat in the sink with the water flowing slowing, but now she is more interested in this than the faucet. Everyone of them has been drinking more water than usual and they all love the fountain more than a regular bowl of water."

"This is the 3rd one I've had to buy. They last about a year then quit spoiting water altogether.
My cat loves it so much I've bought replacements for him. He since recently passed away...just before receiving his 3rd one."

"My cat was recently diagnosed with kidney failure and as a result has been drinking approx 8 oz water per day. Unfortunately, he would only drink out of a cup; and, I had to be holding the cup. Because I work during the day and wanted to encourage him to drink on his own, I decided to give this fountain a try. He loves it! He's drinking so much I had to refill it in less than a week and he no longer needs me to hold a cup for him. The motor on the fountain is practically silent; all I hear is the water running down. It was very easy to put together and I don't find splashing to be a problem when refilling the resevoior like some reviewers have mentioned. It's just like changing the bottle on a water cooler - you have to be quick when turning it over. In all, I am very pleased with the fountain and I feel good that I am doing the best I can for my cat's condition."

"My first Platinum but, second Drinkwell unit (first one spent time stored in a basement, still worked but too nasty to use).
As a frequent traveler I really like the product. One less thing to worry about knowing the monsters have plenty of water. Even without power the reservoir will keep the bowl full.
My cats used it right away. I placed it where the old bowl was and voila`. I fill the reservoir once a week for 2 cats and clean the unit every 2 ;) weeks.
To clean I disassemble the unit and have found hot soapy water, a rag and my kitchen sink sprayer keep the unit clean without any special kit or brushes. It is electrical so obvious precautions are needed.
Tip: If you have this unit and notice the water level is getting too high, maybe even overflowing the bowl, the intake filter may be clogging up."

"I bought the Drinkwell Platinum fountain almost two years ago and it is STILL running strong. It's pricey but it really lasts. My cat LOVES it and drinks a lot more water than he used to. He would try to drink out of the faucet in the tub but now prefers his fountain.
I don't have the cleaning kit and have managed to keep this fountain clean and running smooth all this time but I am soon going to buy a baby bottle brush to get into those crannies better.
This fountain is very quiet and I only need to fill the reservoir about once a week. It's fantastic!"

"I was hesitant to purchase this water fountain because of the price, but it was worth every penny!

I've owned just about every type/brand of pet fountain, and the Drinkwell Platinum is the best!
The drink area is large enough for my two cats to drink at the same time, and the large reservoir keeps the fountain maintenance-free for almost two weeks (meaning, I don't have to add new water).
Every water change, I clean out the fountain, and rinse the filter. This keeps the fountain very clean and removes that slimy film that gradually develops around the rim of the bowl.
This fountain is safe, aesthetic, noise-free, and requires little maintenance. This fountain is top-of-the-line as far as we're concerned!

"The pump started out being fairly quiet with very little vibration. After only a week of usage, the pump noise become unbearably loud and the whole unit shook from how much the pump was vibrating. My cat refused to drink from such a noisy fountain and would only drink when the fountain is unplugged. I tried taking the whole unit apart, including disassembling the pump, and cleaning the parts, but nothing worked. Also the way the water stream hit the bottom of the unit would always cause some splashing. The flying specks of water further discouraged my cat from drinking from it.
Now the fountain is sitting in a cardboard box, catching dust in a corner of my room."

"While this provides water for our 3 cats, there are some design issues that we've had some issues w/ in the 2 months that we've had it. The reservoir has to be filled while it's upside down. That's not a big deal, but then it has to be flipped right side up to replace and it can never be replaced w/o spills. Annoying. Plus, it's supposed to be regulated to not let the level get too low, nor too high. It's always at the brim of the fountain at all times; just waiting to overflow. We had the original Drinkwell Fountain that we all (kitties included) loved. This is definitely one of those times that better isn't better at all."

"My two cats love the Drinkwell Platinum Fountain. They both drink from the waterfall not the bowl. They are eating less dry food so I believe this product does encourage them to drink more water. I cannot hear the motor at all. The waterfall does sound like a waterfall but it is not loud; its actually therapeutic."

"I love this product! It is very quiet and easy to assemble. The only down side to it is, with 4 dogs and 2 cats drinking out of it daily, you have to clean it at least once a week, if not more! But if you only have 1 or 2 pets, it shouldn't e as bad. And, my mother and I have cut ourselves twice, while unscrewing the cap to refill the reservoir. But if you are careful, it can be avoided!
Overall, I would highly recommend it and plan to buy one for my aunt and her 2 cats!"
