"I bought my cat genie back in July 2007. I have five cats, and a not so spacious apartment. I use the laundry hook-up and it works wonderfully. Although I do wish they made a mat that fit around the front to catch the scattered litter. I hate stepping on that stuff! My cats all took to it. The youngest two find great fascination with it and watch it every time it runs."

"Press a button, wait, flush a toilet. Done. It has an automatic feature if you need an even easier method. You still have to flush a toilet. I clean mine while walking the dog. This is the only litter box that lets you multitask. (Now if they can come up with automatic dog pick up.)
My two cats took to it with no problems after the stink box was gone. (Looks like litter, feels like litter, must be litter box.)
Product delivery was lightening fast.
My cat owning neighbors are envious."

"This is a wonderful idea and would work great, if only my boys weren't so picky. Of my 4 boys, only would use it on very rare occasion. However, he would use it once and would not consider using again until it was cleaned. And speaking of cleaning... the cycle does take a long time, and it was VERY loud. Some else had stated that it's about as loud as a dishwasher... that is a gross understatement. Maybe if it's a 20-yr old dishwasher!
The CatGenie is a very innovative idea, and I would recommend it others only if they do not have finicky kitties."

"The Cat Genie is awesome. We've had it for a few weeks now and one of our two cats will not urinate in it (uses the nearby puppy pad instead) but we are hoping he will get used to it. The only major problem we have is that when it cleans it breaks up the solids when scooping them out. Then, several smaller bits of the solids fall through the scoop and remain in the bowl. When the drying cycle starts we end up with the horrible aroma of toasted cat "stuff". It is a really awful smell and embarassing if someone comes over just after it has run. The Cat Genie is in our laundry which is next to the kitchen and living room so the smell is always "right there". We now try to remember to unplug the device so that it doesn't run if guests are coming over. We haven't called customer support yet, but I'm hoping they have some ideas because otherwise it works great."

"I can sympathize with some of the criticisms of the Cat Genie. Initially we had a problem getting some of the kitties to use it. Two of the females took to it right away but the others ignored it. Therefore, I decided to ignore Cat Genie's suggestion to keep the old litter box available. BOOM! Instantly they all started using it, no problem. All went well for approximately two months when suddenly it stopped draining. I tried everything in the Genie User Manual to no avail. I called Customer Service. The young man on the other end walked me through a dozen different tries to fix it. The grossest part of it was when he said that I probably needed to disassemble it and wash out the macerator! Disgusting! That is the mechanism that acts like a blender to enable the solid waste to be discharged. The next morning I took it out to the back yard and disassembled the whole thing and washed it out with vinegar and lots of water. When reassembled and returned to the bathroom it worked about two more times and then, kaput! Nothing! I called Genie and they immediately said not to worry, they would send out a new motor the same day by overnight delivery. Guess what? They did! The next day the new motor arrived and the switch out took about three minutes. The problem turned out to be that the Genie was not perfectly level. We had placed it in the guest bath bathtub. (It is used rarely, so seemed like the perfect solution.) The problem is that the bottom of a bathtub is not level, so that water can drain out of the tub. The solution? Three shims, placed on the down side on opposite sides of the front to make it perfectly level. I know because I used a level. Once a day I use an old plastic pitcher to rinse down the tub. The water actually runs under the Genie and voila, all clean! By the way, we take in rescue kitties and at the current time have eight (8) kitties ages 1 ½ to 10 years old. All has been fine for over four months now. I do agree that the toilet gets disgusting, particularly since I have it set to run four times a day. I keep a disposable toilet bowl brush next to the toilet and give it a swoosh when I go in to rinse down the tub every day. It would be nice if they developed a gizmo that would flush the toilet each time the Genie finished the cleaning cycle. I have discovered that if you flush the toilet immediately the gunk does not stick to the sides of the bowl. Another improvement would be to make the cartridges refillable. Then a gallon could be purchased and simply refill the cartridge. Even with the problems, it is still better than cleaning out a litter box once or twice a day. All in all a wise purchase! Particularly since, we were using 40 pounds of litter a week with the old litter box. As an accountant, I did the math and discovered that the Genie pays for itself in approximately 18 to 24 months depending on how often it is set to cycle through. Eight paws up for PetNovations!"

"I have had my CatGenie for a couple on months now, and I love, Love, LOVE it!!! My cats were using it within an hour, and I haven't had any problems yet! I use it with my washing machine drain pipe, and I can't tell you how amazing it is not to have to clean the litter box any more. I didn't really think it was going to work, but it's like magic. I would (and do) highly recommend this to anyone with cats."

"What a pain. I can’t tell you how many times I was alerted by inappropriate urination that once again the rotten thing did not drain. I understand that things clog. It happens. But what I don’t understand is why this rotten thing has a warning beeper that will NOT shut up when you run a sanitizing cartridge out, but has no warning that it is full of water and waste slurry because the cat genie did not drain completely or worse decided not to drain at all. How hard would it have been to have a not-drained warning beep? One extra sensor is all it would have taken to solve this problem. Can we say design flaw? While lovely people I am sure, the cat genie customer service rep recommended that perhaps I could just pop into the laundry room a couple times a day to check on it. Hello, automatic cat pan. Isn’t supposed to need me. Is supposed to run on a schedule. As much as I disliked when my litter maid broke, at least the cats could use it until I noticed the problem. Oh, and when (not if) you disassemble it to check for a clog, be very careful with the scoop arm. Apparently if you don’t do it just right and it gets out or line or bent even ever so slightly it will start picking up the waste, shaking off the waste, dumping the waste back into the pan, empting nothing into the hopper and then mashing the waste it dumped back into the bowl into a fine slurry paste. Mine is being picked up in the morning to be returned. Other than that... enjoy your new cat-genie."

good concept needs refining

"This is a great concept, but still needs too much refining. I had one for a short while, but my cats did not adapt to it and instead peed all over the house. The cleaning process is very long and extremely noisy (had it upstairs in a back bedroom and it woke me up in my downstairs bedroom on the other side of the house!). The hose would clog 1/4 of the times it ran, thus either leaving the litter in a bed of water or not cleaning the litter period and making loud beeping noises that were very scary to my cats. I have three large cats (15 to 22 lbs) and it didn't seem very roomy for them, plus, it had no sides so when the cats wouldn't squat when peeing, it would just go on the floor anyway (ok, so that's not totally the fault of the product, more my dumb cats - but it would still be nice to have sides since i know that cats seem to like their privacy). Also, if you are planning on using the toilet this would hook up to for daily use, the discharge tends to make the toilet quite nasty (the toilet will not overflow, but some feces pieces still remain and just not very pleasant for guests to have to deal with).
All in all, it's a very good idea, but could use quite a bit of refining before I will purchase another one."

"This is the only product I've ever bought (and was skeptical) only to find out that It was something I could never live without.
The thing is amazing! I have two large cats and the thing only has to run once a day. I had two littermaids that did nothing but jam up and break and my cats used the thing 20 times a day. With the cat genie they go the bathroom maybe twice a day now.
The box recommends cleaning the unit 2-3 times a day (automatically), but once is enough for me. There is no smell, only a slight mess with the granuals on the floor. I called catgenie about this and they said they were releasing a hood for it this summer and I would get an email. Once the hood arrives (and I'll pay whatever it costs) this is as perfect an appliances as the vacuum or the dishwasher.

"I just got this product today. Hooked it up in a snap. It's so simple! Finally a cat box that acts like a toilet. It does this superb job of cleaning the little pellets. They practically sparkle! "I would give up my microwave before the cat genie...I hooked it up and my kitten jumped in and used and then watches it whenever it cleans. He loves having an immaculate litter box. There is no odor and the solution is very clean smelling. Everyone that goes into my bathroom wants to see it work. "I wish I had the Cat Genie my whole life! It is absolutely the best item I've purchased for any pet I've ever had. I am finally free from litter box duty! My cats took to the Cat Genie immediately with no problem. The Sani Solution has a very pleasant smell - no more cat urine stench! And all you do is press a button - no mess, no fuss. It is definitely worth the investment - try it for the 90 day trial period. If you are not satisfied, you can always return it and get your money back, even if it is used. "The Cat Genie is a great litter box. Acclimation can be a problem for some cats, but once they realize they've got perpetual clean litter, they love it. My 17-year-old took to it before the younger cat.
We chose to still scoop the solids and run the cleaning cycle once a day for two cats. Cuts down on operating costs that way. The box has no odor, which is fantastic.
We've contacted customer service about a few issues, and each time they have been very helpful and responsive. If you can hook this up in your laundry room or to any dedicated waste line, it's truly hands-free."

"This thing is great. my cat has seen it in action and uses it.I push the button when its dirty and voila. My house no longer smells like litter box. the grnules can get tracked in house but i sweep them up & throw back in. My only suggestion. A more pleasing sent for deodorizer. "I know that no one with internet access could possibly remember the days of the chamber pot, but I'm sure it wasn't pleasant. The dichotomy here is exactly the same. The CatGenie renders the traditional litter box an obsolete relic. It really is as simple as it seems (once it's set up); just push a button and it cleans itself and flushes all the waste into the plumbing. Also it's way more eco-friendly than litter. Litter takes up an enormous amount of landfill space, and doesn't biodegrade for ages. The plastic granules in the CatGenie are reused so there's no landfill space to take up. Also, the solution that's used to sanitize them is non-toxic. Definitely worth the price!"

"I have tried LitterMaid, every form of litter out on the market, Litter Robot and finally the Cat Genie. I have one of the first ones out, so it had some bugs, but Cat Genie worked all of them out with ease. I love the ability to push a button and viola! the cat box is clean. I do not use the automatic option, I use the manual, so I can clean the toilet afterwards - because that is the only draw back in my mind. Yes the granule track, but you can use a little stick vac with a cup, gather them up and dump them back into the Genie. Try that with regular litter. I enjoy never having to buy litter. I do not miss standing in front of the litter trying to decide which brand to use because my favorite was gone, or going to another store because they were out all together. It is the best thing for your cat! Easy to clean and easy to use."
