"I have had my Cat Genie for almost a year now and I don't know how I ever lived without it. The upfront cost might seem like a lot but when you factor in how much you spend on traditional kitty litter every month, it pays for itself. It's the best investment I ever made. The Cat Genie washes and reuses the litter so you never have to buy litter again. The entire cycle takes about 30mins, which you can start on your own or set it to clean automatically up to 4 times a day. I only have one cat so I only do once a day. It took me less than 15 mins to set it up, just attach it to cold water source and plug it in and your good to go. I haven't scooped litter in almost a year now and I am so glad I never have to do it again!"

"I saw an advertisment about 2 - 3 months ago and I was so excited because it sounded too good. Imagine, a cat lover without having to ever change cat litter again! I ordered it and received it a Friday afternoon. By Monday, my husband & family hated it. I called and decided to give it another try. By that Wednesday, it got flooded and it smelled just the way a regular toilet smells when it has been stop-up for several days. The first 3 days that it kind of worked, the odor was terrible. I have a 2 story house over 2300 sq. ft. and the entire house smelled like cooked waste. The cleanning process is about 27 minutes and it heat-dries the litter and it doesn't scoop right, so the waste left in it gets heated. Just imagine the smell!!! The cat litter is very expensive & you never have to change it but when it scoops, it throws/flushes out a lot of it. By the 4th day of usage, about 20% of the litter was gone. I cleaned it the Wednesday after I purchased it and it's a lot more work that a traditional litter box and it's gross. I cleanned it again today because I'm going to return it, and it was so nasty. My cat stopped using it 1 week after purchase because I bought a different littler box. I hate it because it's stinky, messy, needs a lot of maintenance, products are very expensive, and it's not what you think you're getting. It sounded too good to be truth. Is anyone ever inventing something that really works? Even if it's $$$$$$, if it works, I would be happy because I'm a cat lover."

PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM

"Only 2 of my 6 cats took to it which is just as well. It would fill with water and not drain, sani solution cartridge kept popping out, dryer would run continuously, scooper arm would get hung down in bowl. I went through two cat genies and had the same problem with both! Now they are both in the landfill and I am thinking of the nice little weekend getaway I could have had with what I spent on them. Pricier is not always better!"

"I've had my Cat Genie for about 10 months now for my three cats ages 3, 5 and 6. The first 3 to 4 months it was working good then it started to all go downhill. When it would turn on to clean it would get jammed and would require that the whole thing be taken apart. Water would sometimes just not drain from it and again, I'd have to take it all apart, try and carry the big piece of equipment outside to dump the watered down feces and urine out. Finally I just started scooping the feces myself and using it only to clean the litter granules after that. It also made my house smell so bad while cleaning. My whole 4 story house would smell of urine and amonia while the litter was drying. To the point that I would usually have to open windows to air it all out. My cats have never been real fond of it as well. While I was fostering kittens my cats lost their 2nd litter box for a while. Then when they got their second box back they never once used the Cat Genie again. The first couple months I was having problems I'd call their service center and leave messages that were never returned. Then when I'd call in and finally talk to somebody they weren't too friendly. The whole experience has been a disaster. I expected much more expecially since it was so pricey. Total waste of money."

"We have 2 cats, it took them a few weeks to get used to it, but it's our mistake. We should have removed the old litter sooner. I think 1-2 weeks is enough, and then remove the old cat litter. Since we removed the old cat litter our 2 cats have been using the CatGenie everyday, no problem! This product is really amazing. I would suggest buying the dome as well, since cats love to be in a closed area to use their bathroom... This product is the best investment we have made for our cats. No more mess, no more work, no more smelly cat littter."

"I have had my cat genie now for approx 5 months. At first it ran OK, I finally got my cats use to using it, but than the trouble started. The smell during the drying stage is really, really bad, so I decided to start scooping the solids out of the cat genie( a little self defeating, I guess), but that did help alot!! But I was also getting alot of the granules in the unit itself, so the company sent some plastic rings to put in the bottom of the bowl, also that did help. I had problems with the sani salution, I now know the trick of installing that. I was told to take a nail file and gently file the gold tag on the sani box. OK, did that. Now, the heating unit is not working and I have to call again. So all I have now is wet granules. I have not moved the box around, I have it on auto timer for twice a day, so the unit is not getting abused in any way, it is not ready to be marketed yet, too many problems. Cleaning the unit is absolutly disgusting! When you are first using it, it is nice and clean, but give it several weeks, when you go to take it apart and clean it, I was gagging, it was really really disgusting.
So, I am not sure if the lastest problem can be fixed or not, but I may well go back to the old cat box for a while, it is simpler, and quite frankly, easier to clean. With taking the solids out of the cat genie already, all I have to do to clean the old cat box is throw out the old litter, wash out the box and refill with fresh litter, beleive me, it is not nearly as gross as cleaning the cat genie.
Customer service with this company is very good, they are very helpful and very nice. Great concept, but not there yet. I may look at another one several years down the road, but there would have to be some major improvements before I bought one again, and the price is very , very steep."

"Not perfect and has a learning curve for you and your cats. However, once everyone gets the hang of it there is no litterbox smell in your house. Customer service/technical support is phenomenal. I have had to call, but when I do the problem is solved and they are most patient."

"After the installation (Less than 45 min) everything has changed, our life (my self, my wife, our unborn child and My cat) now is better, almost perfect.
No more smell, no more clean up every weekend, no more buy litter every month, no more check the paws of my litlle friend (My cat...).
I bought extra granules, extra sanisolution (enough for 365 days) and the dome.
I have to say thank you to the people who develop this kind of litter box tecnology, it is like a human toillet but in cat version.

Hard time with old plumbing

"My only complaint is that it was really hard to hook up if you have old plumbing like in my apartment. It required many trips to the plumbing store to try and find the right adaptors. Now that it is up and running I love it! I would recommend the dome though.. my cats think the cleaning cycle is a really fun game and I have had a lot of washable granules on the floor."

"We were a little hesitant to pay that much for a cat box at first. It turned out to be the best investment we've made regarding our cat. It works like a charm, the cat loves using it, there is little mess, no odor, and it's fantastic. It does tend to run for quite awhile while it cleans, but that isn't a big deal at all. You have to change the cartridge about once a month and that's just about all the work that you have to do with this box. I love it. I wouldn't buy anything else."

"We decided to spend this much money on a litter box because we are selling our house, and needed absolute freshness. With 3 cats (and dogs and kids), getting to the litter box 3 times a day was too difficult. I can't believe after a month the catgenie is still working wonderfully, and my sister (our "helpful" critic) can't smell cats in the house at all. It did take one of our cats nearly 3 weeks to get used to it, but the other 2 were using it exclusively within days. It took me about 15 minutes to set up (with the help of my 3 year old). we did close the door to the bathroom during operation for about 2 weeks, we didn't want the cats to freak out about the noise it makes. We decided to use the toilet instead of the laundry because the reviews that experienced difficulty seemed to be using the laundry drain. We also have to keep the toilet seat up during the drain cycle, otherwise we do get a back-up in the catgenie."

"i absolutely love my catgenie. someone sent in a review about the horrible smell when the catgenie gets to the drying stage and i completely agree with that person. it does have that smell, but ONLY when pieces of feces are missed. to prevent that smell, just simply scoop up the little pieces that get left behind, before the rinsing stage, and your problem is solved. you might think that it defeats the whole purpose of the catgenie, but would you rather do that or go back to buying litter all the time and having to dispose of it yourself?"

"We love our CatGenie. Set up was very easy when the instructions are followed. I had no problems connecting the hoses.
It took our cats about a week to get totally use to it but now they use it all the time. Our kitten loves it when it runs.
We have the unit with the dome lid which helps keep the noise down a lot when it is cleaning.
It can be an embarrassment to have someone use the toilet after if has ran if someone isn't there to flush it right away."

"This is great idea, but it needs a lot of work. I would run the cycle 2-3 times then it would clog, you have to completley take it apart to clean it out, so you are cleaning watered down stool much worse than a regular litter box."

"The CatGenie was accepted right away by my two boys (adult male and my kitten who is one month shy of his first birthday). They were initially a little scared by the noises the CatGenie made during it's cycle but I just stood by assuring them, now they don't care at all. It would be best to run the CatGenie twice a day with my two cats, however when I can only run it once due to working long, I monitor for the first few minutes. If all of the stool is not scooped, I assist by using a pair of tongs to remove any pieces left behind, placing them into the shoot. The cleaner has a scent that I apparently am allergic to, so when I called the company, they assured me they have cleaners that do not contain the scents -- thank goodness.
I live where water is scarce so I was concerned about the 5 gal. the unit uses with each cycle, however I believe that the savings by not adding to the landfill helps along with not performing the regular washing of the original litterbox."

Good Luck Getting Your Cat to Use It

"I thought I had finally found it - the cat box that would end my days cleaning out cat urine and well, you know and all I had to do was then enjoy my cat. I was wrong. Set up was not the easiest, had to call the company who was great and took the time to walk me through - even called me back to make sure things were okay. My one cat would urinate in it, but refused to do anything else and my other cat was scared to death of the CatGenie because of the sound. The machine itself is wonderful - cleans, sanitizes and smells very nice. But you still get the granules all over the floor when your cat leaves the box. Back to the store this thing went, the manager said he sees several come back per week. It has the right idea, just needs some fine tuning."
